I've noticed some pain recently when I have BM. Yesterday each time I had a BM, there was blood in the toilet and on the toilet paper. I've had this happen before, but not quite as much. I've never had blood IN the toilet and there seemed to be A LOT of blood on the toilet opaper this time. It doesn't bleed any other time, just ewhen I have a BM. It itches too, nothing unbearable, but annoying. I'm 26, and I know anyone can get one, but is it common? And if it IS a hemorroid, will it just go away?

Hi Zipity,

Any rectal bleeding need to be checked out by having a colonoscopy. I had a colonoscopy in Jan. 05', because I was bleeding rectally, and my GI specialist removed 2 small polyps and told me that I had internal hemroids. Well, the blood is back, and I'm having another colonoscopy tomorrow morning.

Good luck, and keep us posted

Even though I don't know because I'm basically asking the same question that no one has answered or commented on, I will offer what I've found out by reading.

Since you're in your 20's you probably have a fissure. From what I've read (and it's been quite a bit) many people get fissures throughout their lives. It's a tear in the anal lining. You can have acute (like it just started and may heal on it own) or chronic (which will continue to bother you and possibly worsen with time). Fissures can be confused with hemorrhoids (I have those too thanks to childbirth) because some of the symptoms are the same. Pain, itching, bleeding. However, a lot of people describe painful bowel movements and then there is blood on the stool, toilet paper or in the toilet. I experienced that today. Went to the bathroom and felt like a tearing or ripping pain, then there was blood. More than I've had in the past, but definately a drop or two in the water. Scared the life out of me. I called my gastro office (I had seen them in the past for hemorrhoids etc) and she said my descriptions sounded like a fissure. I have some Prep-H suppositories that I will use at bedtime and try to soften my stool for the next couple of days. I was told that if it doesn't start to lessen or resolve in a couple of days, see the dr. I will try that first before rushing in to the dr.

I would bet that's what you're experiencing. If you can't get it to stop by softening your stool and maybe using some Prep-H suppositories, you might want to go to the dr. so they can give you a more affective medication to heal it.

Good luck!!

I had a operation for diviticulitis back in the Winter and then in April I got constipated. Well I strined VERY hard and that night it started to feel like a hemroid or something was pulled loose. Well I am still dealing with it. I have a couple of weeks and no problem then it returns. This morning I saw a small amount of blood under my stool. And my rectum is so itchy! I wonder if its a hemroid, fissure? Or what? I had a Lower GI in Jan before my resection surgery. So too be sure if I had cancer theyd seen it then? Just five months ago I had the surgery. What does a hemroid look like anyway?

Sounds like a fissure. I had one a couple years ago. On a few occasions I noticed ALOT of blood in the toilet that really scared me. I had surgery and no problem since.

When you get surgery for a fissure do they have to put you asleep? and do they have to cut you open or do they go up your rectum? Is it necessary? I have weeks when I dont itch or bleed but then I have days when I itch, burn, throbbing aches, a small amount of blood in the potty and on TP. I had a lower GI in Jan and they saw NO spreading dieseases. But my itching and pain didnt start until April when I was constipated that week. Every since its been off and ongoing....

See, it's weird though, it seems to hurt worse when my BMs are looser. Thats the weird thing.
