I had an incidental finding on CT that showed what they thought was a fibroid. My MD felt it looked too "raggedy" to be a fibroid. Followup ultrasound showed irregular tissue density, and recommendation for a follow up MRI...adenomyosis versus atypical myomatous change.

I'm 45 y/o, and haven't yet had menopause symptoms. After a lifetime of regular periods, my periods in the last six months have run 21 to last months 12 days apart (blech!). I was getting ready to go the GYN because of the bleeding anyway. Any idea what to expect? Thanks!

It's hard to say what it could be. It could be anything. I know from my experience with the US..I had abnormal bleeding that lasted about 8 wks. I just figured it was the last hurrah before all of it being over. Hadn't had a period in many months..before that 1 or 2 than, wham.. so, I finally went in. My doc ordered a hormone test to see if I was menapausal and I was..the US showed a thickened endometrial lining in a the top part of the uterus..a biopsy of that showed early endo cancer. Had a hyst and it's all gone..no treatment. But, adeno is like that. Once they can go in and see what it is, they can only guess on that one. I did not have any fibroids, nor did I have endometriousis. Your results could very well be indicating adenomyosis.. Keep us posted on what they find..make them take a biopsy..don;t ignore it.
