I am 37yrs old and scheduled for surgery in a couple of weeks - I have an ovarian mass and complex cyst on my left and another cyst on the right - right now i'm scheduled for a bilateral salpingo oopherectomy - and there's always the possible hysterectomy the surgeon said he will try to do it via laparoscopy but depending how tricky the surgery is or what they find it might turn into a laparatomy - my questions are - if I had 2 c-sections in the past- is that against me as far as doing a laparoscopy? and at what point would a laparoscopy turn into a laparatomy - they won't know what the mass is until it's sent to pathology. I'm very unsettled at the thought of going under anesthsia and not knowing what they are doing or how long I will be in the hospital till I wake up. Another question - if he is removing my ovaries and tubes - what would be the point to leave the uterus? (and my mother had stage 1 uterine cancer many years ago and colon cancer so the risk is in my family) Thanks for any input.

Hi Debbie,
The wont know if you have adheasions or how much until he does surgery. IF theres too much from the c-cections he will have to convert to the laparatomy. Hopefully he will be able to do it with the laparoscopy.
Did you have a choice to leave the uterus? I would ask him if you will have to use hrt to have a bleed and what if your not able to depending on what they find after pathology.
Good luck with your surgery, let us know what you find out
