I want to say 'hi' to everyone since I am new to this board. I am seeking info/feedback on Dr. Geoffrey Tobias. I either hear great things or scary things. I recently met with him for a consultation. The consult lasted about one hour or so. He asked me to describe exactly what I see as problems with my nose while I held a mirror. He then shared what he thought needed to be changed about my nose, which was in agreement with I said. Through my research however, since I think I need a lot of work done (shorten nose, shave down bump, shorten wide nostrils, get rid of bulbous part of nose) I thought he'd say that he'll perform an open-rhino procedure. However, he said that he only performs closed-rhino...Can he achieve all that I want done through the closed procedure. Also, when he was taking the 'before' pictures, I wanted him to also take a pic of my left side profile, since it's somewhat different from the right side profile. He said "don't worry, the right side is enough". I was disappointed in that, because as an expert in his field, he should have noticed that the left/right sides are somewhat different. I want to make sure the Plastic Surgeon I choose understands exactly what I want done, but I don't just want to base this on 'before' pics. Otherwise, the consult went ok. He stated that about 5% of his patients require revision, because sometimes there are complications, or unpredictable things that might happen. He does not charge for revision. His general fees are $5,500. The hospital fees will be paid my my insurance company, because he said that I have a broken nose + deviated septum. Any former patients of Dr. Tobias, or anyone who can share info with me about him? This is the biggest decision of my life, and I don't want to have any regrets. Thanks!

Welcome to the boards.

Please keep in mind that we have members located all around the world. When inquiring about a doctor, please put the general area (example: state) where the doctor is located since there can be many doctors around with the same name. City and States are okay only. DO NOT put addresses.

Thanks

Thanks moderater...I was inquiring about Dr. Geoffrey Tobias. He has two offices, one in Englewood, NJ and the other in NYC...He is a specialist in closed rhinoplasty procedures. He was selected as one of the best docs in NY 4 years in a row, at least according to my research. I just have a hesitation about him b/c although I am a layperson, i feel that perhaps with my type of nose, I would need an open-rhino procedure. Should I just trust him and have confidence that he knows what he's doing? Any feedback on this PS would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've heard both good & bad about Tobias over the years. I would also consult with atleast 2 other doctors to get different opinions. Two names that are always mentioned are Tabbal & Pastorek in NYC.

It's just so convenient to find a doc in NJ b/c of privacy issues and distance. I thought I had a great plan when I found all this good info. on Dr. Tobias, I didn't expect such negative feedback on him from members on other websites...Ukh..what to do, what to do....

It's easier to travel now, when it's a primary, rather than have to travel later.. when it's a revision. If you are hearing the same thing about Tobias on other boards..I would heed the warnings.

If you get it right the first time..you'll save yourself tons of heartache.
