Hello All:
Recently I stopped taking BCPs... since then we've had sex using a condom once. No sex besides that. My period now has been over a week late. Pregnancy is not too big of a concern since we did use protection. However, I would like to know if delays in periods are common after stopping taking the pill. I had used the BCP for the past 5 years and just quit taking them last month. Anybody have info on this???

What you are experiencing is very normal...most girls have irregular cycles for the first few months after getting off the pill...some women dont get periods at all.

Thanks so much for the reply... but now I'm worried. Some people get no periods at all?! Is that going to affect me in the future with pregnancy? In this case should I just get back on the BCP? Sorry so many questions.

Hey Shy Bunny!
I have just stoped taking the pill after being on it for 19 years. I cant belive it when I see it but really 19 years. I did stop it 2 years ago for approx 3 months. In that time I was using condoms and one burst and I became pregnant. Now I am off it again and the first cycle took 6 weeks. Dont worry, you will be fine, just hang on and everything will work out.

Thank you lillolil!
I feel so much better now that I heard from someone who went thru this already. I guess I'll just patiently await for my period then. Thanks again! :bouncing:

hey shy bunny
my first cycle after i stopped BCP was 45 days long. your hormones are shifting and reshifting so your body will be doing some adjusting. some women find they have a hard time becoming regular and getting pregnant once they stop BC, but honestly i've only heard this with women (my cousin being one of them) who used the depo shot, or women who have taken BCP for an exceedingly long time. but, clearly, lilolill is an exception to that! :) just be cautious and patient. if you get really stressed about it, that can also delay your period.
and of course every day you're late feels like a whole week!! just keep it in perspective :)
