Anyone else really really dread and hate going the doctor just because they are going to weigh you? I literally am cringing at the thought of getting on the scale next week when I go in for my physical. I know they will tell me my weight and I will freak out, and it will interfere with my recovery...
Also I swear the scales at the doctor always you weight more than you really do. My mom and several other people have told me they usually overweigh you by 5 lbs. Maybe its just wishful thinking. I practially have to starve myself the week before the Dr. because I know I will freak out if my weight is above a certain number. Last time it said I gained 12 lbs!

I so understand the doctor scale thing! They always say that I weigh at least 5lbs. more than my scale at home. I've flat out refused to be weighed many times, at my regular doctor and my gyno. I will only weigh myself in the morning right after getting up, after I go to the bathroom and before eating, in the buff, that's it. I really have a hard time getting on a scale at any other time of the day. Also, the doctor's scale is always in the hallway. So, obviously I can't weigh in the buff. :) I'm dreading my annual exam next month at the gyno. I feel your pain.

EEKKKKK!!!! I hate that part - my dang doctor and the food police make me weigh backwards which freaks me out even more, every once in awhile they forget and when they say you weigh **** I could have a stroke and drop dead right on the spot. I too plan out how to lose a few pounds before an upcoming doc appt - how twiested is that? I tell myself they are trying to help you Maggie all the while hating their guts for hiding my weight from me ...ahhh well such is life with ED

Hi there- I go through this same thing EVERY time I go to the doctor too! It is such a TERRIBLE head trip! So....I have figured out a safe and simple way to avoid all the pressure and stress. Just refuse to stand on the scale. (I usually say, "No thank you, not today".) I mean they can't MAKE you, right??! The worse thing that happens is the nurse looks like you like you have a "screw loose", but hey, I know I do! :) and then it goes documented as "patient refuses weight", in your chart. I find this way easier than putting myself through all the agony....But remember, it might not fly if you are not over 18.
Even at 36, I still HATE the "Dr. weighing me thing". (as silly as that sounds!). I only mean for this to maybe help and put your mind at ease. We all could use a break from beating ourselves up so much!
Hang in there!

Gosh - i know what you mean!!! The first time I got weighed at the doc was when I went in becasue I had sprained my ankle and he grilled me for not eating. I knew I was 99lbs he told me I was 105lbs... ARGH! how could that happen! I was stressed over that for ages. Then the second time I had starved for like 2 weeks straight and I was like 94lbs and he told me I was 99lbs - so yeh, why the hell do they add on 5lbs? I always weigh myself before going to the doc and still between my house and the the journey to there I somehow gain 5lbs. !?!. Whats that all about? They obvoiusly know how stressful it is for us to get on those scales, so why tell us we are 5lbs heavier then we are. Thats just gonna make it worse. Right?
Phhh, i dunno!
Lol

lol..I don't think that doctors purposely adjust their scales to read 5 lbs heavier so they can lie to you about it. I think its a matter of scale accuracy...you have to realize that, no matter what, all home scales (including doc office) read completely differently. Even if a 5 lbs bag of sugar reads as 5 lbs on both, it will read differently for different people, for different reasons. The reason the doctor's scale might read 5lbs heavier at almost all doctors offices might be because they use similar manufacturers, or they calibrate them the same way (according to like standard or something). It's frustrating, yes, but you should take this as a sign that you shouldn't rely on weight, because it really is all relative to the scale youre on.
For example, on my scale, I read to be a certain weight. Whether or not I like it, it definately affects my mood, and that is generally the weight I go by. On my friend's scale, I read to be like 5 lbs lighter. Of course, this makes me happier, but I also don't really believe it because it's not MY scale..even though i would LIKE to believe it to be my real weight. What I mean to say is weight is one of those things that isn't constant no matter what, and therefore it is almsot useless to rely on it heavily. For people losing weight (not that ANYBODY should be to at ALL!), it is a good indicator of progress, given that you follow the same scale, at the SAME time of day, wearing the SAME clothing. Even then it's not guaranteed to be accurate, because on that particular day you may be retaining a litre of water because you ate some salty foods, or maybe you haven't gone to the washroom (or haven't flushed your system out completely), or maybe the stars just aren't aligned and the gravitational force exerted on your body is more, thus making your 'weight' higher. It's all relative, and never constant and NOT a good, reliable, trustworthy source of information...

yea true...not all scales are rite...take my home one for example. wow that works like crap!! i would stand on it...it would say a "low" number...im happy. id step off. id step on again..im 5 lbs heavier after 5 seconds....wat the hell?? haha i hated that! cuz then i would have a panic attack and run up the stairs 10 billion times....sheesh.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who hates the doctor weigh in!!
I'm not sure I could actually refuse to be weighed though...I think the nurse would give me a hard time. I'm not exactly one to stand to to doctors or nurses because they intimidate me a little (don't know why, but they do).
I just always tell them "don't tell me my weight, I don't like to know".
Haha, once i said that and the nurse left my chart in the room and she had actually written down WHAT I HAD SAID, like I was a nutcase.
And once they didn't tell me my weight like I had asked but like an idiot I couldn't resist looking at the computer screen and it had my weight on it and I FREAKED OUT. My whole week was ruined.
Why the heck do they have to weigh us anyways? We're not little kids who need their growth charted....
If I have gained more than 5 lbs I will not go to the doctor no matter what for fear of the scale...
LOL, and i do believe they add 5 lbs!! I get weighed on Thursday and we'll see what happens...

I think as long as we have ED the scale will always be scary because we put so much weight (heehee) on our success with losing weight or maintaining a certain weight. My doctors weigh me because of the ED, if you go for a general check up well they weigh you too. I have no idea in numbers how much i weigh but I know how much I weigh if that makes sense. We are so good at looking at ourselves, how we feel or don't feel, looking at the fit of our clothes.....
