Hello girls! Well in just a few hours I will be getting rid of these hanging lips! I am 28 yrs old and I cant tell you a day in my life that hasnt gone by where i would look down, pull on them, and just wish they wernt there! Or while Im laying in bed, trying to push them up inside me so maybe they wont come out in the morning lol. Its a horrible psychological problem and it bothers me because I do think I am beautiful in everyother way except my vagina! My freinds think Im totally crazy, but then again, Ive looked "their way" in bathing suits and they dont have that "package" look like myself. I dont have to cringe anymore when Im hanging out with my guy freinds and If they are talking about vaginas ( like they always are) or looking at a porn mag saying how pretty this one's vagina is or this one.. and how nasty the ones are that hang... I can just sit back and smile insted of feeling that anxiety feeling of I hope I never hook up with any of these guys! I dont have to feel uncomfortable spreading my legs If my man wants to go down on me... Or I can actually turn the lights on and have him look at it without me thinking "oh he's so grossed out right now!" Ive been thinking about this surgery for years and Im finally going it! Im nervous but excited. Im going to Queens, Ny to a dr.'s office there. Womans libery heath care facility. I have already gotten the consultation last month. So its costing me 3 grand! Oh well, prob the best 3 grand i will ever spend! I will let you girls know how it goes! Pray for me. I know the pain you all go thru! Its horrible how society has screwed our heads like this. If my mother only knew I was getting this done... boyyee. [removed]I know how it is! Good luck dealing with it and overcomming it if possible or good luck finding a doctor. :)

Hey girls!
Well let me just tell you... I just got home from the doctors office and looked at my vagina for the first time... And let me just tell you, for the first time in forever I said to myself with a smile on my face " Now that is the cutest vagina I have ever seen... AND ITS MINE!!" I am so happy I went through with it :)
I am a little soar right now and I am wearing a pad because I am still bleeding a little bit but it should go away in a few days. I had a local anestetic so I was awake for the whole thing. The only thing that hurt is when he had to shoot into my lips with the needle to numb them! ack! But after that it was cake.
Im a so happy I cant even tell you and no matter what anyone says to me negative about what I have done, all it comes down to is that Im happy now :)
So good luck girls with however you overcome your insecurities :)
Happy,
Michelle

Cshore...
Thankyou for letting me know... I thought something may have gone wrong with my surgery! My outer lips are swollen too and my inner ones a slightly bruised... its the day after and Im more soar then yesterday. I called my dr. and he said it was normal. So another question.... He told me not to scrub or bathe with soap... did you just use water for teh whole 6 weeks? And after you urinated did you wipe down with water? Wondering if urine is bad for healing??? And did you wear a pad for a while after surgery? or just the first day? And did u use a ice pack? And if so for how long and did u apply it right to the skin or towel underneath?
I really do love how I can ask these questions ... Im really happy I found this site :) Thanks cshore for making this easier and more understanding :)

I have this problem too... I'm not sure to the extent of how large mine is as compared to others but I've always noticed it and been annoyed. I have my first GYN appointment in a few weeks so I'll talk to her about it. I wasn't aware until like a week ago that you could actually get this problem fixed! I was wondering, how did they bandage the wound after? I'd love to have the surgury but it just seems like an awful place to have something to heal. How many days are you unable to work? I feel kind of weird but like you said, I like that I can ask things here.

Oh- this is random but concerning the ice. When I got my wisdom teeth out they said apply ice for 48 hours to prevent swelling. Not sure if it would apply but it does relate.

Hi all! I am so happy to find a place where i can ask this! I really want to have this surgery but I have one concern. I am very sensitive "down there" which obviously brings me pleasure during sex. Will having all that extra tissue removed effect my level of sensitivity? I am afraid that the surgery will ruin or hurt my sex life in that respect even though it will surely improve it in all others. I will be so grateful to anyone that has been through this and can answer that for me! AND..to the woman that just had the surgery...hang in there...I hope you feel better real soon!

For Cshore & Michelle.. I'm hearing about different techniques for this-seems everyone claims their way is best. I'm hearing about a V shape (wedge shape)incision where the edges are then joined together again or just trimming & suturing. Also laser vs. cutting. What kind did you get? I guess the bottom line is how natural it looks and whether any scarring? Also do you stil have some "hang out" or are the lips completely covered?
Michelle.. I hope your recovery is going well
Thanks Val

Thanks for the info Cshore! I wonder if it makes any kind of difference with regards to sensitivity if you have the laser technique vs.cutting. What kind did you have? Does anyone have any info about that? If there is anyone that had it done with laser....or any way for that matter that was lucky enough to keep most of the feeling they originally had do tell! I am thinking/researching about which method to have this done myself, and the sensitivity issue is definitely going to make my decision for me....whichever way is the least damaging in that respect regardless of healing time, etc. THANKS!

Thanks cshore for your reply and for all your info on this subject. It means so much to hear from someone who's had this done.
Saturn..I hear you on the sensitivity issue. That's a concern for me too though the psychological and physical discomfort have had a bad effect on my sex life anyway.
It's great that we can share information like this, hopefully it will lead us to a good outcome.

And yes I have the same annoying problem everyone else does, I have some post in the other Labia post. Any way mine hang out and thats not so much the problem but the problem is this swelling I get after my period that makes me feel them more and has cause me for the past 7 months or so to feel abnormal and form this phycological insecurity about it. mine stick out about a little over a CM outside my outer lips. I have of course thought of the surgery but all 3 Gynos I have been to (waiste of money) have advised me not to. for me it is not so much a comsmetic thing. Guys dont seem to care. I just hate feeling them. and sometimes feeling them makes me hate the way the look as well. Cshore was so nice to tell me how long hers were, and she seemed to have more of a case than me for surgery. Michelle, how long were yours? did you ever have discomfort?
Thanks :)

Phew Im back... Silly me didnt read the policys and said to email me.. so everyone disgard that...I had gotten banned for a week because of that! Ive been wanting to post soooo bad!! OK so its been a week and 2 days and Now that the swelling has gone down and the stiches have dissolved, I cant even explain the happiness I am encountering! I mean, I knew I was going to be excited, but not like this. LOL, Im constantly reaching down there just to touch it... haha not masterbate of corse, none of that for 6 weeks :( oh well! I put on my tight work out pants yesterday and what a difference! I dont feel that rub on my jean seams anymore...And ive never felt more confident in a bathing suit! And now when im sitting on the floor in sweat pants I can put my knees up and out without being emabarresed about the bulge between my legs!! Cshore, it still somewhat stings while Im unrinating... is that normal? Im guessing thats from the stiches? And little spots of blood still... that normal? But for the most part, the best 3 grand spent ever.. The sense of security is amazing! I really cant wait to hook up for the first time after im completely healed lol!!! My lips, if i pulled on them hung down about 2 cm maybe, maybe 3... never measured, just guessing. Now they dont hang at all. I dont have any labia hanging out past my outer lips... which is amazing to me! Well all im saying is to the girls who are contimplating having this surgery done... And Im speaking as someone who has been contimplating for years... GO GET IT DONE! You wont believe the difference if your self esteem! Trust me... I know how it is...
Hope this helps

Vali: sorry i didnt answer your question
He made incisions to my lips.. No laser. He then stiched them but stiched them inside so my inner lips are still poofy and cute, not all chopped up. And no I dont have any hanging at all anymore.
I will let you know about the sensitivity issue when i start having sex again LOL hopefully sooon
and cshore.. what is a sitz bath?

wow; can't believe I found this site. I must say I got emotional after reading your stories having been through the exact same phsychological problems. Good to know I'm not the only one. I did not even know this procedure existed until a short while ago. I surfed the web to get information and saw some before and after pictures. I realized that mine were worse than all the pictures I saw. I don't understand why none of my ob/gyn's suggested it after so many years of my expressing dissatisfaction with that part of me. congrtaulations to Michelle and everyone else who has been brave enough to go through with it. I have been trying to find a doctor who performs this, but none of the web sites I visited mention it. how did you guys find a doctor? I really want to do this and want to find someone experienced in my area. Thanks again and best of luck to all of you.

Welcome Gonzales :) And No you are not alone! We all know how you feel. I found my doctor from the internet but he seemed to be the ONLY one who specialized in it in ny/nj area, or atleast the only one that made it public. I know some gyno's do the proceedure, you'll just have to call around even though I know its an embarressing question to ask :) Are you typing labia reduction in whatever state you live in? Thats how I found mine. Good luck, if there is anything I can do to help just ask.
So its sunday now, and it doesnt sting anymore when i urinate and the redness and soarness and swelling has gone down tremendously! So about a week in 4 days it took! I absolutely just love it!

Hey Zoe.. Yes it was at the womans heath center in queens and I believe that there is only one doctor there that performs the surgery. It was Dr. Roh... He did a great job so far, Im going for the follow up visit tomorrow to make sure the healing is going good and no sign of infection ...I will let you know. There doesnt seem like any loss of feeling but then i will be able to tell you more after I start having sex again :) Hopefully soon :) where you planning on getting the proceedure?

Cshore... :) hi
ok its two weeks now... question: did your labia seem hard like scar tissue for a while before completely healing? I went to the dr. yesterday and he said healing was going fine.. just told me not to "touch it" lol...
seemed like one of the stiches disolved too quickly though and there is a tiny little mark where you can see it seperates.. I can barely see it but he said after 4 more weeks if it is still there he can do reconstuction again!! I was likeeee NOOOOO.. let me alteast have sex with my boyfreind first.. he's dying!!!!! :) I can barely see it though.. so we will see after a few weeks...
ya so just let me know if you got that hardening feeling for a while... its like hardened from swelling...
talk to ya soon :)

I am a college student looking to get this procedure done. I just wanted to know if you pay for it all in a lump sum or if there is some way you can charge it confidentially, so I would be able to pay it back slowly. Would I have to take out a loan? I am desperate to get this done. I am so self-conscious about it.

I have a question, since you gals seem to know so much about this! But is it possible for the labia minor to be too small? I mean mine is almost completely covered by the outer lips..and I am 17, so I have gone through puberty and all that. Is this abnormal to have this? Is something wrong with me down there??!

Boy do I have a lot of problems but when I read this I thought (OH MY GOD) I DIDNT JUST REALISE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROB!!! I stay embarrassed with mine and thought I was realy different. It does look "gross no offence" but I hate mine its so stretchy a saggs and LOL I am only in mid twentys.
;)Oh!Sayyadina I hope my forum ansewrs you question because no you are not abnormal

Sayyadina- don't worry. I'm 18 and have the same problem. I've done some research and mine aren't as drastic as some of the pictures I've seen but I hate them non-the less. Ugh, with my cycle it completely sticks to the pad, which I think is the most annoying part of it. It's so uncomfortable! I have my first GYN appointment next week and I'm surely going to bring it up. I just started college so I really don't have time for surgery right now but it's a possibility in the future.

For those of you who've had it- how soon were you back to work? In my family we have so many medical troubles that I'm not sure my parents would be willing to do the surgery... my sister had her tonsils out and she had so much trouble and was out of school for weeks, but I've heard this doesn't take as long.

I guess it depends on how long you are on your feet or the kind of work that you do... to how much work you will miss..but I would say that you won't need to miss more then a few days or at the most a week.

sayyadina- I hope after reading some of these postings that you are comfortable with your size. I would consider that very lucky! take a look at some of the before and after pictures on the web that some doctors have posted and you will realize that what you have is perfect. For more that 12 years I have been uncomfortable with mine, as they rub against pants (jeans are the worst), get in the way of sex, swell up after sex, embarrass me during oral sex, make putting in a tampon somewhat difficult and generally hang down enough to make me aware of it every day. It has had an emotional effect on me and I am very grateful that there is a procedure out there that can help.
Hope this helps and good luck!

Thank you Michelle. I had basically gone on every cosmetic surgeon's site in my area and even the board of cosmetic surgeons looking for a referral for someone who does this. I guess I will have to call and ask (ugh)! Thanks again.
As far as the payment question (I think it was zo's?)I think a lot of places will allow you to pay monthly since so many people opt for cosmetic surgery and can't afford to pay all at once. Probably not the really popular one is NY or LA, but maybe elsewhere. I may be totally wrong, but I think it may be an option so I would ask. Then I guess there's always the credit card. Good Luck.

michelle20s
10-19-2003, 06:03 PM
sayyadina.. You should only be so lucky :) No there is nothing wrong with you at all. Girls pay money to have your problem (me!!! lol)
Going on week three now since the surgury... The hardening has softened up... i think its almost 100% healed now. And everything looks beautiful. I showed my boyfriend last nite for the first time and all he said was Oh my god!!!! He couldnt believe the difference and of corse he loves it :)
For the question: I was back to work the next day and I bartend at nite so I do alot of running around.. I was soar but managable. One big mistake was getting on the back of a harley with bad shocks :( ouch
I must admit it was very uncomfortable for a good week and a half... but in the long time WAY worth it

This board is really useful. Thanks all of you!
Michelle, I'm thinking of using the doctor that you used. I have a bunch of questions. If you can answer any or all of them I'll be soo grateful.
I know I'll feel very nervous but badly want to get it done. Can you give me feed back on the facility, the doctor and staff. What if anything do they do to put you at ease? how many people in the room when you had it done? What did you do for the 1 or 2 hrs that it takes? I'm wondering if you would just be lying there staring at the ceiling (getting really anxious) reading, or maybe they give you something to relax. Is it done in the clinic or in the doctors private office? Also what is involved in the pre consult? Do they have pictures of what they can do etc?
I know it's a lot of questions and thanks for anything you can tell me.
Also congratulations, I enjoy hearing about your progress. Good to hear it's going well

Hey Michelle...I am so pshyched for you! I really appreciate you keeping us all updated on how you are doing....and can't wait to hear about the "sensitivity" issue when you finally get to hook up with your man!
I realized that I forgot to ask something of everyone out there in my other posts...as if my problem wasn't bad enough I also have an issue with my clitoral hood being "very pronounced" so to say. I have only seen one before/after picture of this and my case seems to be worse than what I saw. Anyone else have this problem out there? Has anyone had the procedure to have it reduced along with the labia reduction surgery? As always any info I can get is much appreciated!!! Thanks!

10-21-2003, 11:56 PM
Hi ginny :)
Ok i hope i answer all of your questions :)
For pre-surgury he did a pap smear and just looked at my vagina and asked exactly what I wanted done and what I wanted to acheive. I told him that I was uncomfortable with the size of my labia and that I didnt want to see any hang out of the outer labia anymore. I am going to be completely honest with you...He is not very personable.. He's very cut and dry. He is one of those dr.s there to do the job and on to the next... Not very compasionate. At first that bothered me, but when I saw the finishing results I didnt care how his personality was. I wish he was more compasionate being its a very personal and private thing for a woman to do.... but his work speaks for itself. When I went in for surgery... the dr.s office is on the 4th floor of a professional building. I liked that part of it because it was private and no one really knows what your going in the building for. The office isnt too extravigant.. bascially a waiting room with a bunch of chairs and talk shows playing on the tvs haha... and then you go into a waiting room.. change your clothes then off to the surgury room. I'll be honest... its not the most professional looking place in the world but its not ghetto either. Its just a basic surgury room.. you lay on a chair that reclines back and your legs are in stirups. He plays music in the back groud to kind of relax you and keep you occupied with something else. I would advise you to take a valium or some kind of pain killer before you go. He tells you thru out the whole proceedure what he is doing.. ex... "i am now making an incision to your left labia" etcccc..... He used a local anestesia so I was well awake for the whole proceedure. There was one nurse in the room who was a sweetheart! I wish i knew her name. She came and held my hand and rubbed my head. The woman who worked in the office were mostly asian and the dr. is asian also. Even though he lacks personality.. his work is amazing and I would recommend anyone to him. As for the emotional part.. I am here for you if you need me for any moral support of questions..
I hope this answered most of your questions :)
Michelle :)

michelle20s
10-23-2003, 12:03 AM
HI jinny..
I'll try to answer all of your questions :)
OK here is how it went ... first went for the consultation: Went in to the dr's office.. I liked where the office was because it was very private.. it was on the thrid floor of a professional building so no one really knows what floor you are going to. The dr.'s office wasnt too extravigant. you walk in to the waiting room.. bunch of chairs and a tv playing ricki lakes :) Then you get called into the waiting room, they take some blood and your blood pressure etc. When i went into the exam room i was placed on a reclining drs chair with my legs in stir ups. He examed me and asked me why i wanted this surgery done and what I want accomplished. I told him i didnt want any labia hanging down past my outer lips for comfort issues and insecurities. So he told me what to expect in short. He's not the most personable dr. in the world.. thats the only thing i didnt like. But his work was amazing so i looked past that, but not until the surgery was over and i was healed. I had wished he was more compasionate. So i went back a month later, they want you to go back right after your period ends. Going for the surgery i was nervous. I went in and he only gave me a local anestetic. Which hurt when he had to shoot into my lips. There was a very sweet nurse in the room with us. The dr's office had all asian woman working for him, he's asian also. Pretty nice people. When I layed back to go for the surgery, he played a cd with different music playing.. i guess to distract you from what is going on and what you are hearing.. he talks thru it telling you when he's making incisions and when he is stiching. When its all over with, dont look down when going into the waiting room... cause there is blood all over the place.. pretty gross. But anyways.. Then he gave me 12 tylonal with codene and sent me on my way... I needed more pain killers and he wouldnt give me any but i got some from my freinds :)
I would recommend taking some kind of pain killer or muscle relaxer before going in cause they dont give you any.
Whatever pain i went thru then... i would do it all over agian.. much worth it
hopefully i answered all of your questions...
good luck sweetie.. let me know if i can help you anymore :)
:) :) :)

Ahhhh I hate these things!!! they bug me soo much, of course its after my period and Im going through my hormonal thing or whatever where they are swollen and drive me nuts. Ive had myself so worked up about this for like 3 months before I just excepted it I dont know if they have changed or if Its all in my head. :( sometimes I feel like its both. regularly they stick out only a little over a cm past my outer lips. I hate it they move around when I play basketball, they pinch sometimes and sometimes I just feel them. Do you think its cause Im just thinking about it all the time?? I seriously just want to have them cut off. 1 I dont want to pay for it and 2 Ive never had sex Im saving myself and Im afraid Ill loose feeling. Even though they arent the worse lookin things in th e world they make me so self consious. Im not saving myself because of the lol that has alway been my plan but now Im worried of what a guy will think. Do guys really care what those things look like?? So many problems with 2 little stupid flaps of skin!! it has to be in my head right!!

Hey krisi...
First of all guys sorry for all the posts... guess they posted 3 times insted of once...
anyways... krisi... If your insecure with them now, you probably always will no matter what a man might tell you. I had a b/f that loved them, but i hated them no matter what he said. Your right .. two little flaps of skin can totally change the way you think about yourself.. nutz right? As for losing sensation... Last nite was the first nite i was with my boyfreind and i dont know if its in my head or what but i never orgasimed so fast in my life.. Im wondering if its because im so secure with the way that i look now ... im not distracted on what he's thinking. Its crazy! I didnt have penatration but did everything else. I felt wonderful. I swear its all mental!!!!!!!!!

Michelle, what an angel you are! That's exactly the kind of detail I wanted. This is the stuff you can only get from someone who's been there. Knowing the guy isn't going to be "Mr. personality" ahead of time helps - then expectations are more realistic.
Better to know ahead of time than to find out when you're lying there in stirrups barring all :) Main things are that he seems to do good work and has a lot of experience. I'd be afraid to go to someone who hasn't had a lot of experience. You were lucky in that you found someone close to where you live. There doesn't seem to be anyone (at least who advertises) in my area. Wherever I go, it will involve a flight and at least an overnight stay. I'm also looking at a woman obgyn who does it in San Antonio Tx Her name is Hailparn - Anyone out there know of her???
Again Michelle thanks for all the details you've given and I'm so glad to know things are going well in the sensitivity area for you.

I really want to have this surgery done. Does anyone know of any good doctors in Chicago/Chicago land area? Do you know if you have to go to a cosmetic surgeon or can your gyno perform it? Also, for those of you who have asked your gyno, what did you say...how did you ask to have the surgery?

Hey girls! Well at the moment I'm very excited but also pretty anxious because I will be getting labia minora reduction done tomorrow! Its being a complete nightmare to arrange it - had to ring random numbers asking if they did it since its not done commonly here in UK. I've lived with it for too long and those darn hangin lips have gotta go! It's costing me my entire savings (£1684) but in my opinion will be the best money I ever spent. How long have I fantasied about chopping the things off myself! I'm early twenties and have avoided getting intimate because I've been so self consious about it. Hoping it goes well tomoz!!! Will tell u all how it goes.

Good luck Soz. Are you able to say where you're getting it done? When I lived in the UK I didn't see it advertised there. Maybe things have changed. I've found that since it's considered mainly a cosmetic surgery, NHS and Insurance generally doesn't cover it :( Even though us ladies with the problem know there's a big discomfort issue as well as a cosmetic one. Still, from what I hear it's money well spent. Hope all goes well

Thanks for the reply Michelle, I know that they will bother me but the thing is I kinda want to over come it cause to be honest I dont think they have gotten all that big and its like all of a sudden I feel them all the time and I think its that I have myself worked up AND I examine myself all the time and Im sure I make them more sensitive, Ive been looking at myself at angles I dont think anyone does. lol Im sure that has been what makes me feel worse. I really am not all that worried about what they look like and am confident that a guy will be fine with it but. the discomfort I just cant tell if its all that real or not. is it this hormonal thing? I just dont know but. I dont want to get surgery if its not neccessary. The GYNOs sure dont think so. they think it would be a huge mistake. I know Ive asked this before but there are some Newbies in here with the same problem but. How long are yours? with out pulling on them how long to they stick out past your outer lips? Im just tryin to undertand why my gynos say they see plenty of women the same size as me and they dont have problems. mine stick out a little over a CM. Replies would be cool but understood if thats too much to post

Hi all again! Well I've had it done and I'm now skint beyond belief - I don't think I'm my bank managers fav person at the mo! Everything went well and it looks great! I've had a little stinging - but I've had cystistis before so its kinda like that. I'm hoping to get better soon so I can get back to swimming and exercise! And no the procedure is not advertised here in UK nor is it done on NHS as far as I can tell. I got it done in Sheffield. Best bet is to get in touch with BAAPS [removed] for UK ladies who want it done. Thought before I would have to get to US to have it done and that would've cost even more. I would def recommend it to anyone thinkin o getting it done!

When a post gets so many replies, sometimes it takes a while for a response to show up.
I suggest that you create a new thread on this topic to not have this problem.
Therefore, I am going to lock this topic. This way, no one will respond to this one by mistake instead of the new thread.
