im really worried that i may have Cirrhosis. i read that it starts with inflamation of the liver which i have got, its fatty as well. my doctor said he is pretty sure its just fatty and inflamed but i just have this feeling its worse.

i drink once or twice a week and am 23 and male, i do drink a fair amount and as i say im quite worried i have got Cirrhosis. i have to see the liver consultant in a couple of months to see if my enzymes have gone back to normal but the horrible suspence is gonna kill me. what are my chances of having it?

What are your lab numbers like, with significance to the AST,ALT and the alk phos?Have you actually had any other tests done on the liver like CT or ultrasound? These would give a much clearer and more in depth picture of what your overall liver is looking like.Marcia

Scared me bad when I first found out. But then, after all the years I drank I should have known I wouldn't get out of something coming up from it. I have Hep C and Cirrhosis. Luckly I had stopped drinking about five years before I even found out.
I just go to the Dr get an Ultra sound once a year, take Milk Thistle, and try and take care of myself. I am 64 and Thank God so far no real trouble
Main thing leave the alcohol totally alone, and follow Drs. orders.
God Bless

I would stop drinking for a while (or at least don't drink consistently) and drop the salt intake. Just check the nutrition label on the food you eat and don't eat out alot. Also, you would be suprised how much salt is in bread and cold cuts. You're not going to like the taste but see if how much better you feel vs the change in diet. You will be suprised, I'm sure and, of course, listen to your doctor and check the 'net for opposing views. All Dr's are not created equal and your gut will tell you if you should get another opinion.

I've actually nearly stopped eating salt all together, not had one drop of alcohol this weekend (feel better for it!!) and have't been eating food high in fat in the last couple of months, in fact my diet has changed one hell of a lot since being told to cut out this kind of stuff.

I had an ultra sound and loads of blood tests but the only thing that came back was raised liver enzymes and nothing could be seen from the ultra sound, doctor says its just a fatty liver. I'm not sure of my AST/ALT.

I think I'm going to see the doctor again tomorrow to tell him I'm not happy with him telling me "it's something to do with your ribs". I've had 2 doctors, 1 liver specialist and a dietitian tell me that the pains I get aren't anything to do with my liver.

Maybe it's due to BAD anxiety and worry that makes things worse, we'll see. I think I'm going to buy the Sandra Cabot book on the liver diet and see if that helps. I've heard that peopel have had really good results from it.

You will definitely know when you have a serious liver problem. My feet and knees started swelling from ascites (water retention) and got so bad I could barely walk. My stomach was swollen too and they drained several liters of fluid out of me. You are following the book on caring for your liver so don't worry. Also, if it had anything to do with your ribs, it would have to be the ones you ate the night before (ha).
