Hello everyone. Now the question up for answer is "am I mentally ill?". Now several incredibly reasonable people(I have no doubt they are since they were in classes that required a higher reasoning ability) had said and affirmed that I am crazy, and by judging other people's reactions there is no doubt in my mind that this is true. Now the question that buggers me is if I'm crazy, then there must be some kind of definitive symptoms that can identify this type of craziness and what are those symptoms? Would those symptoms also point to a mental illness. I had recently come across an entry in W.i.k.i.pedia that defined "crazy", and the only definition that could even remotely apply to my case is this one.
"Crazy is a general term used to describe people with a mental illness."
So this buggers the question, do I really have a mental illness and if so, which one? What is your opinion on this? I would like to hear it.

Unless those "reasonable people" are doctors you're no closer to knowing if you are "crazy" than you were before. Crazy isn't exactly a medical term either!
There are many mental illnesses, and none of us can diagnose you over the internet...
If you list your symptoms here you may get responses from someone who also has them, or knows someone who does - - but you STILL have to go to a doctor for a real diagnosis!

Even if you do think that you have a mental illness, you're NOT crazy! Don't ever say that! It just allows the stigma of psychiatric disorders to continue! :nono: All of us here, regardless if we're obsessive-compulsive, bipolar, schizophrenic, depressed, or anything else, have a neurobiologic condition in our brains. There's nothing that we did wrong in life that allowed us to develop our diseases. And, if you are properly diagnosed with a particular mental illness, don't fear. All of us are here for support, and in this day and age, there's so many revolutionary treatments to overcome our problems. Good luck and God bless!

SWB, yes, you're crazy! We're all crazy! :) Honestly, from the posts I've read of yours, you seem to be very aware of reality (am I way off here?) so I don't think you're in deep trouble. I read somewhere that a mental condition is only considered a 'disorder' if it messes up your life. If you are functioning OK in society (this does not mean that you're winning popularity contests, just that you are reasonably happy and productive) then you don't have a disorder, per se.
I don't know you, but I gather from your posts that you and I are very much alike, and here, again, is my diagnosis: We think too much! :)
If anything, you may have a tendency to obsess over things (like I do), and a compulsion to chew up ideas until they are fully digested, all the while taking more bites. This *can* become a problem--if you let it.
Personally, I've given up on the idea that I'm perfectly sane (i.e., boring). But I know that I'm not 'crazy' either.

I've been restraining myself from posting on here from fear of sounding crazy or making a remark that is really of no relevance since I seem to have a pattern of doing that. But really, wouldn't it help people determine if I was crazy? haha
But anyways. Thanks blue102, but I don't think my problem is related to giftedness as you so think. Number 1, I know you have the impression that I'm some supersmart dude(just kidding - but you have an impression somewhat like that I'm guessing) because I posted on here awhile back on the autism stating somethings. Well those scores were childhood scores, and since then I've changed. I'm only around 130(I really don't want to sound like I'm gloating), judging by SAT scores and other things, so all the problems that you see with the "gifted" should not apply to me, at all! Those kind of social adjustment problems apply to people who are 140+ and have no one to relate to! Such is not my dilemma! I should be able to relate to many people and be the super social star! But no, instead I'm the crazy loon. Ok... just wanted to clear that up.
Where was I going with this again... :?
Well. I guess this really had no point. I'm off.

Hey, I think you're just freaking out. I think it would really help if you talked to a psychologist, just to help you get an outsider's perspective. But then, I don't know you...if you think that something is wrong, then it may be worth being concerned about...
Also, IQ scores naturally level off as you age, unless you spend 12 hours a day studying astrophysics or something. It doesn't change the way your brain works.
I think that, like me, you have a tad of an anxiety problem. Look in the mirror, say to yourself over and over, "I'm not crazy!" If you were over 21 I'd tell you to have a beer. :) Oh, I probably shouldn't say that.
One thing I've learned though, is the more I think I'm crazy, the more I become crazy...

Bah, I do that all the time and they haven't banned me yet. :D

Ruth - I don't know what the symptoms are. I at first thought that it may be a thought disorder, as described by a huge list of symptoms, because after reading my own writing I do seem to jump from topic to topic and it's 'illogical', I guess. Also I know the effects of having the symptoms are and they seem to apply to me as well.. such as having a conversation with other people and trying to communicate. I think this is also the major reason why I don't have friends and that's because I have an impaired ability to communicate and that's due the thought disorder. And no, it's not too much because I'm shy.. I'm not really shy at all.. introverted, yes, but shy - no. At times, yes, but definitely not all the time. And also I tend to use words that aren't appropiate, or tend to use words in a novel way(a weird way) and this causes a lot of people to look at me quite frankly in an odd way, and it's usually followed by a couple of s******s.
And yah.. I can't really follow the logic in other people's in some people's posts on here, but that could because I am stupid in that way or have difficulty in that way, or it could be that you guys really are illogical. I can't really ever tell, however I would expect you to say that you really are logical so I then must be stupid or just have a thought disorder. And I have a hard time believing i'm stupid, but hey, it's definitely possible.
And I was hoping that you may be able to tell some of the symptoms from reading my posts on here since writing reflects how a person speaks pretty well - but hey, if not.. then maybe I'm not ill, but just "crazy".
blue102 - just three more years.. :D

HI!
Nope, can't spot any obvious "craziness" from your posts alone.
You actually seem quite intelligent, creative, and with thinking more like that of an engineer. Analytical/Abstract, etc.
And if it means anything at all, you made perfect sense to me!
I doubt you've run across many people that you find intellectually stimulating who can keep up with you. And that WOULD drive you "crazy"!!!
Welcome aboard!
