I was put on Prednisone after sinus surgery July 6th. It is driving me CRAZY!!! I have gained about 10 pounds and am on an emotional roller coaster. My doctor is decreasing it weekly Started at 60mg, the 40mg now at 20mg. I go back on Tuesday. I have been taking them for 18 days. Will I have to wean off of them with 5mg pills? How long does it take afterwards to start losing weight. Please post your story concerning Prednisone.

Nicole, I was put on prednisone for 5 days once, and gained 10 pounds even though I was nauseus and didn't eat much the whole time. It is important to do the decreased dosage in order to stop taking the drug. It can make you feel awful, but in the long run it does what it is supposed to do. Stopping the drug suddenly will only make you feel worse.
As I recall, the 10 lb weight gain, dropped off easily after stopping. So, you shouldn't be concerned with that, as it is not permanent.
Hope you feel better soon.

I was on prednisone before I had back surgery because of severe inflammation and it took care of the pain for me until I could get my surgery done. I did not gain weight but that was because I could not walk due to severe pain so there was no walking to the refrigerator. I do remember being severely depressed while on it though. It goes away once you are done taking it and you have to gradually taper off your dosage. It can be dangerous not to. It is a very strong drug and please follow the doctors instructions and taper off gradually. I took it for 6 days. I took 6 the first day then 5 the next day then 4 the next day etc.....

Nicole...I was on Predisone for a year and a half after they discovered tumors in my right lung. I had surgery to remove tumors in the left lung about eight months before, but they caught the tumors in the right lung early. I started at 60 mg and I was at that dose for a long time, until a CT scan revealed the tumors were gone. I was amazed, I had no idea this could be done. After the tumors were gone, they started reducing my dose. It was a slow process going from 60 to one mg, but finally last March I was taken off of it. I had gained about 35 pounds during the time I was on the med, but today (7/29) I have lost all of it and I'm back to my original weight of 167. BTW, they make Predisone in a one mg pill.
