Hi everybody I was really hoping someone could help me out here.
You see I got my braces on about a week ago and I only got the tops done yet the tenderness and throbbing pain I've felt since the first day is still with me.
My Doc. said it would only bother me for a day or two but last night the pain was so bad it actually woke me up! I've been taking IV profin but it's still been tough.
Something isn't wrong is it? Or is this totally normal?
Please let me know.
Thanks

i've had braces now for 376 days (hopefully for not too much longer.. :D ). in the beginning it hurt quite a bit. so much so that i had to put things like granola bars in blenders.. , lol!! also, there's a paranoia that you'll chip off the brackets. over time both the pain and the paranoia will disappear.
for the most part, i don't really notice them there and as an adult patient, other adults don't care..in my 2 years, only 2 people have ever said anything about them and one was a mean comment (which i forgave since some alcohol consumption was involved.. ).
the only other time you really feel any discomfort is when you get your monthly adjustments and you'll have this tight feeling but nothing was "tightened". the chains are ligatures were just replaced.
you should go to [deleted].com. there's a forum there (some orthos even show up from time to time). there are tons of people there with the same experiences as you (i'm also in there  ). check it out.

I know exactly how you feel...I had braces for 2 years and eventually I got used to it.... I was in lots of pain at first because I had 4 teeth pulled and my braces on on the same day....so it could be worse for you...but i promise your pain should be going away soon...good luck with everything...bye bye
