I have to quit smoking due to an upcoming surgery I'm having (cosmetic). I just smoked my last sweet cancer stick o' mine. This may be a tough few days for me, getting past the withdrawls, the irritability, etc. I quit with the patch b4, but never cold turkey. Anyone else just quitting? Need a quitting buddy?
Fortunately, I'm getting over being sick, so this will aid me in not wanting to smoke. Xers, u know, the 1st a.m. cig, the one b4 bed, the ones in the car, etc. I'm nervous, but I have to do it.
Thanks to Dendeb under the Big Question thread. Very informative. I can't wait to clear my lungs again and be freeeeee from addiction. :bouncing:

Hi Alsaser: Good for you in deciding to quit. I know very well how
hard it is to make it past the first week. I've smoked since I was a Kid and have quit 23 times for as long as 10 months at times. Hopefully, this is my
last time quitting. When someone offers me a cigarette, it's Great to say, "No thanks, I Don't Smoke"!!!
I wish you all the strength you can muster for beating that devil on your shoulder. I find it helpful if I get the urge to get up and do something else or just to get up and twirl around. I also drink lots of water so as to flush the nicotine out of my system and keeps my tummy full so I don't overeat, to fill the space of the missing cigarettes. Best of Luck and I hope to see you back posting with good energy :bouncing: without the smokes. ;)

Congratulations alsaser...

Hang in there, the first week or so is the most difficult. You can do this! I quit many times before this final quit, at least 10 times. Took classes, over and over, did gum, patches, cold turkey... everything, but it never lasted forever. (2 times I went a whole year!) This time I was DETERMINED to NEVER smoke again! That's the key,...the main ingredient- - -YOU HAVE TO BE DETERMINED!!! Those other quits, I didn't do it with my whole heart. Half hearted attempts, and I was always thinking in the very back of my mind...'someday I'll get to smoke again'.

I hope you have this determination...100% resolved to quit, no matter how tough it gets.
It does get easier as time goes on.
Best of luck, and let us know how you are doing. :)

I just quit, also....79 hours and 45 minutes ago to be exact :) Cold turkey- for me there is no other way. I've been wanting to quit for some time, and now have no choice. Going through divorce- can't afford to smoke...had to make choice between daycare (and gee, I sorta need my job!) and smoking....smoking had to go...Also, on a very sad note- a young woman (49 yrs) who lived on my street died Friday from lung cancer...smoked 2-3 packs a day from the time she was 12....So- I'm eating WAY too much, hoping that subsides after a while...drinking a lot of water- cold water- because for some reason that makes me feel better (cleaner??)....and holy cow- I smell sooooooo good!!! :)

Hi Jen...Way to go girl...that's great!! Don't worry about the eating more...that will go back to normal, but it does take some time. I quit 22 months ago, after at least 30 years of trying to ruin myself. I have quit at least 10 times before, and 2 of those tries, I actually made it to a year, but always went back...like a fool! :( This time the differance was, I REALLY wanted to quit for good, all 100% of me, my determination was so strong. So after 22 months, I rarely think about wanting to smoke, if I do, it is just a fleeting thought. I actually hate it now, hate the smell of it, and everything about it! It sucks! I had gained a little weight, like around 13 lbs, but now lost 8 lbs of it, and still working on the other 5 lbs, which I know I'll get there. It was worth gaining a bit of weight to get RID of that nasty, shameful habit.
That is so sad about your young neighbor! Yikes, I'm 50, and when I read of that, it scares me so much! Glad I did quit, and pray it was not too late.
You go girl...you are off to a great start, with a really great attitude too! :) Hang in there, it gets easier as time goes along. I know you can make it!
Best wishes...
Deda
