Ok, it is my understanding that you do not ovulate while on the pill. If no ovulation occurs you cant get pregnant right? So would it be a good idea to get an ovulation monitor to test whether you are or not while on the pill? I'm trying to think of a ways of decreasing my chances of getting pregnant even on the pill and I tried spermacide foam and the sponge and they just tear my insides apart, I get bad cramps.

If you want to waste the money on an ovulation device, go for it.

But, if you use the pill perfectly, there is little chance of ovulation AND implantation occuring. Say that ovulation does occur-- well, first, the sperm must reach the egg before dying, and fertilize it. Then, the embryo must be implanted into the uterus lining, which the pill also prevents. The pill makes the uterine lining more hostile, prohibiting implantation from occuring.

It's rare that all of these factors would occur while using the pill perfectly, but of course, failure does happen.

Rather than wasting money with an ovulation device, consider condoms (either male or female), or another barrier method.

BCPs are supposed to suppress ovulation but they don't always. I have three friends who became pregnant while using the pill, so it's still possible. you could always use a condom as well.

ovulation monitors do work, and you can buy them pretty cheaply at stores that sell clothing, cards, baby stuff, groceries (not sure if i can say the names of the stores but they're in every city).

my friend bought one for about $13. it's a mini microscope with a light. it unscrews into two pieces. you place a little bit of saliva on a small lense and let it dry (can't do it until an hour or more after you've eaten for most accurate results). then when the saliva on the lense is dry, you screw the two pieces back together and the light comes on. you look through it and you can see if your saliva looks like a bunch of little splotches (not ovulating) or a fern like pattern (ovulating). the only thing is the change in the saliva occurs only a few days before you ovulate, and it is still possible for you to get pregnant (especially if you're not using the pill) before that if you're fertile.

anyway, you could always try one and see if you like it. of course, it includes directions and explanations to help you.
