lisamichelle 01-12-2003, 03:46 AM Is anyone here on or have a child on a feeding tube. Buttercup Syrup 02-10-2003, 01:47 PM I have a younger friend on a feeding tube. She has had it for about 6 years now. Why do u ask? Wiv luv Butter x CKDL 03-30-2003, 10:49 AM We have a newborn with a G-tube. It works very well and you can feed her at night for extra calories. The only drawback is you can't use enzymes with it because they cannot fit through the connection at the button. Good luck my_nightingale 03-30-2003, 07:07 PM My daughter is 9 years old and she has had her feeding tube since she was 7. Believe me at the time it was a very hard decision to make - but, she needed the extra calories to help her fight infections. Now when I look at it - it was the best thing we ever did. She has gained 22 pounds since she had the tube placed. I know that doesn't sound like much - but, believe me it has made a world of difference. She gets supplemental feedings at bedtime and she already manages the g-tube (mickey) herself. It has cut her hospital stays way down. She has only had one CF exacerbation in 2 years requiring hospitalization - as opposed to every 4-6 months. Good Luck casketcase 06-13-2003, 06:09 AM i had a gastrostomy for 5 years after i stopped eating and stopped taking my creon with what i did eat as i was in denial about having cf. i got it when i was 11 and only recently had it taken out. in those 5 years i doubled my body wieght so it really was a great thing despite some of the problems i had with it. i only wish i had got it when i was much yonger as it did impact on my confidence and my life a bit. i couldnt go to sleep overs iwth friends or on school trips if they entailled an over night stay and i could nt always wear what i wanted. but now, im 16, and im still underwieght but ive been given i anew lease of life and im more willing to eat and put on the weight thanks to the button. and i always take my creon now too. i hope you get on well with the g-button and experience the same success as i have. |
