Okay I will do it. For those of you who dont check this thread often this is a continuation of a previous thread that was just taking to long to load for some.

Well, I still have my teeth in, not suppose to take them out for 2 days. But I aint promising Ill make it. I have a slight sore on the bottom right where a new bone spur is really hurting me. And from what I have been able to discover on the bone spurs is that the longer your roots extended into the jaw bone the higher the chance of getting bone spurs. Bone spurs are the tiny fragments of bone that are between each tooth supporting it and holding it in position. The deeper your root extends the more bone fragments the larger the possiblity of bone spurs.

Chatty, you are just never happy. First they are to loose, now you cant get them out. Boy you canadians are picky people. JK you know I love ya.

Dee, what exactly is old lady music???? The sixtys???? Tread softly here when answering that. LOL

Pam welcome back, I am so glad that you were able to enjoy the wedding and eat. I still cant eat steak, but I do dream of it alot. From what I have been able to understand I guess the issue with lettuce is that with dentures you chew with an up and down motion to break up the food, with your natural teeth you use a tear and rip type of motion. I am not allowed to do the lettuce thing, so I haven't tried it YET.

OHOHOH, I got the call, NO MORE ANTIBIOTICS for me. Yahoo. I can go later tonight when hubby gets home to have the port\pikk line taken out. I am so happy for that. Now maybe people wont give me a double take when it looks like my left boob is up in shoulder. LOL

Hope all is great with everyone.

Good Morning! :D

Only problem I seem to be having (other than a few sore spots that need to be adjusted) is the one area where dentist said he had to cut open gum a bit and go after the root of one tooth .. it's there that he took a stitch up into the gum itself ... and now it's starting to hurt a bit.

The dentist that was filling in for my regular dentist took the stitch out of it, and the oral surgeon said the stitch was suppose to stay in and disinegrate on it's own. Hmmmm??? I just might call oral surgeon today and have him take a look at it.

Cleaned house last night, colored hair a really sexy dark brown (shows off my green eyes better), and this week and week-end will be much cooler and low humidity, thank goodness!

Ya'll have a great day!

Oh, that was sooo much faster to look at this page! Love that! Thanks Casey. Congrats on no more anti-biotics!!! I hate taking that stuff, makes everything taste funny when I have too, and I always feel yucky too. That port must of been a big bummer to have. You'll just feel like a free women once again! Good for you.

Chatty, hope everything goes great for the wedding. Your smile will be lovely, think positively or you'll just stress yourself needlessly girl. lol

Someone said on our last post....(Dee, or semperwife?) they went and bought some paste to glue in there denture, I heard it gets pretty messy and the fixadent powder is better, don't need too much of it either.

Dee, I hope they didn't take out a stitch too many! If it was starting to heal good, maybe it was time even though they were the dissolving ones. Not sure how long it takes. Yes it is finally cooling off here too. I can't take the heat too well. What good is summer if your stuck inside with the air on.

My dentures are still doing good. Hopefully I can keep these temp. ones for a while yet. It's going to cost me a bundle to get the permanant ones made, right now it would be awfully tough to do. I'll have these 1yr. Oct.27th. So I do have a ways to go. Bet my dentist is wondering when I'll call for a reline....lol.....have managed to use just the right amount of glue to keep them in good. Hopefully I won't have to go for awhile yet.

More running to do today, every have a great day. Love this new faster post.Diana

Diana:

I did buy Fixodent paste ... but after talking to my sister who was a nurse, I've decided to go with Sea Bond. They're the whole piece that just fits inside the denture and work really well. She said most of her patients used that and loved it.

I'm buying some today, will let you know how it goes.

Ok, Dee, thanks, might have to try it if you like it. So far I do like that powder I know. We just bought a little campsite and are looking in an RV to put on it. I want to have something for my dentures at both places, so I don't forget it at either place. (winks) Diana

Hiya Diana,

Well, I tryed the Sea Bond wafers as they call them, and I didn't like them because:

They added too much 'bulk' to the inside of my dentures, and made them fit tighter ... therefore pressing more on my all ready sore spots. OUCH!

They just didn't feel right at all ... so I took it off and used the Fixodent, just a LITTLE BIT, and that worked much better. Dentures fit good now, and are holding good so far. I'll let you know how eating goes! LOL ...

I do taste a little bit of a flavor .. but it's not very noticable.

Hugs,
Dee

Hey all, I am already behind and its only been a day. Jeez

Boy Dee, kicked the ol man out, new teeth, new hair color, lost weight, and green eyes. What on earth are you holding on to that ex for???? I think its time you went and got yourself a real man to make you happy and show him that he gave up the best thing he ever had.

Dee, I will tell you all my experiences from the glues and such, please do not try any poligrip where you have open holes or stitches. This is speaking from experience. Just dont. For the top just use it in the middle on the roof or where you dont have a sores. It is a pain to get off the roof of the mouth afterwards but it works really well. I didn't like the extra tastes with the flavored ones so for me its only unflavored. The powder works great on my tops. Hardly needs anything and gives just enough so I dont get the air pockets or saliva build up that bothers me so much. Plus it is easier to remove the dentures and the powder comes off when I brush my gums. The gel stuff doesn't. These bottoms I need to use the gel stuff because of the gap where the implant receivers are going is empty and I cant keep them in with out it. 5 1/2 days left to deal with that issue.
Those wafer things, oh my I used it once. I got one from the hospital in my bag of stuff they piled on me for an addition inflated price. I put it in and the directions said to bite down and or apply pressure on the roof of mouth for 2-3 minutes. I do this, and because of my wonderful gag reflexes I stay real still with my head over the sink just in case. Well I put my head up, the dentures are to thick in the back, I start to gag, and the panic attack sets in and it was all down hill from there. It took me over twenty minutes to get them out. And my mouth was bleeding from my nails. Not ever going there again.
The little strips might have worked if the gaps between the dentures and my gums werent so big by the time I tryed them. They were really sticky to put in, and easy to clean out so those are plus's that if I need to use something I will try them again with these dentures.
Hope that helps you out, Chatty did her own experiment with the glues and such and I am sure she can add to all that.

Okay, Diane I am moving in with you. Campsite??? Oh I would be in heaven. I am so sick of the city and its inhabitants. People are so rude and in such a hurry to get no where that I want to be. Driving here is a risk each time.

Chatty dont forget to take the first bite for me. I have waited longer then you.

Hubby home, so I will go for now, I will catch up with the rest in a few.

Hi All,

I'll throw in my two cents about adhesives. I don't go in for a complete soft reline until August 10 so I have been using the adhesives. My dentist did do a partial reline in a couple of places on the top and bottom to make them feel better. I've found that the Fixodent Control works best for me...really sticks!! Sometimes too well! The Fixodent Complete also works but I find that the Fixodent Control is easier to remove, at least for me. I can start peeling it off the roof of my mouth with my fingernail and then it seems to just come out in one piece most of the time. I probably wouldn't need to use as much as I do on the top but I feel more confident about them not slipping when I do. So far I've just put it on the palate area. I have to use quite a bit on the bottom because I already had quite a bit of bone loss from extractions I had done over 40 years ago. If I didn't use it, they would just fall out but maybe the complete reline will help a bit with that.

I haven't used the strips or pads and from what I've heard, maybe I won't!! I did try the powder, but I didn't feel that it was staying as good as the paste. Maybe I'll give it another try since I don't think I gave it a fair chance. So, that's been my experience, but I'm only about 4 weeks into this!!! Hope everyone is having a good day.

Chatty, I'm so excited for you with the wedding coming up. My daughter's wedding was last weekend and it was so perfect that I still can't stop thinking about it. I hope yours is just as beautiful. Take care and don't be nervous...you'll want to remember every minute. Oh, I hope you had that steak. I had steak at the wedding at it was the best thing I'd ever tasted!!!

Sure Chatty blame your blonde moments on the wedding now. ROFL You are to much.

Hey everyone, I have a really strange question for ya all.

Can your tongue reach all the places in your mouth that it use to before the dentures. I cant figure out if my tongue got shorter, or if the dentures are fatter then my real teeth were and so it cant make it around them. Boy that sounds so strange. Okay, I use to be able to clear any deprie from from mouth like up in my cheeks or on the front of my teeth with my tongue. Now my tongue barely reaches the top of my teeth, and my lips come together just as before so I know its not the dentures sticking out bubbly like, as Chatty would say. And the same with the side of my mouth by my cheeks.
Umm as I write this I wonder if it because of the way the bottom denture fits so far down into my mouth on the inside by my tongue. It could be restricting its reach.

See what happens to an OCD patient when we get insomnia while have dental procedures done. We obsess about our tongues and keep ourselves awake thinking about it.

Good Night.

Hi Casey,

I'm right there with you...my tongue doesn't reach those places either, but I haven't got an answer as to why. I thought it was just because my immediates were so thick or something. It drives me crazy that I can't dislodge foodstuffs that are stuck in the cheek, etc. And my mouth closes ok, too. Maybe someone else has an answer. Hmmm, I don't think I can "pucker" as well as I used to either...LOL!!

Went for another adjustment and she said I was way ahead of my time for a soft reline, so she didn't take too much off, didn't wanna ruin them she said. So I go in August 10th for the reline.

I still have a really really sore spot on the left front of my gum and there's a blister forming .. or so that's what it looks like to me. Anything I can put on that to make it feel better when I have teeth out to rinse? OUCHY!

It still tends to 'hit' on the middle front when I bite down, first place it hits, and that's annoying .. but again, she didn't want to do too much to it.

About this adhesive! I'm finding that the fixodent paste works best for me, but it makes me gag to get it off! UGH! I've not gagged once with the dentures, but taking that stuff off does it to me. I tried the paper wafers ... too much bulk for me, is the powder better ya think?

Mouth seems to be getting dryer now that I use the adhesive .. for some reason.

I can see that I'll be able to eat allot more once they fit better and that area doesn't hurt anymore.

HEY ... I finished an illustration of Oprah Winfrey and her friend Gale ... wanna see?

Hello everyone

Carat:Leave my blonde moments alone, that's all I have irght now, lol, I lost my patience, my sanity and my freaking mind so please go easy on me!! LOL

Pam:Give it time, if your dentures are shaved down in the front like above your four front and four bottom teeth then you shouldn't have a problem also if you are still shrinking or not far enough in healing then they can effect your lips, tongue and cheek room. Mine are so much better I can make fish lips again...just like my daughter where a week ago I couldn't. I am 2 months post op now and they finally now like this week sit back and up and the bottoms sit now the best they have, I can pucker up like no tomorrow now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's why I did that little pole about lips looking bubbly, more what I meant was about the puckering and biggness in the front but once anyone gets heaeld enough and the outside of the denture can be shaven down to a minimum you'll notice a huge difference in appearance and in the room in your mouth, my mouth actually feels bigger then the dentures for once! LOL

If I could, I'd show you a picture of me Sunday without the reline they were ill fitting and I was still not exactly happy with them and then Monday's pic from after the reline you'd think they gave me a whole new pair!!!!! They just sit better:)

Dee, Glad to hear you are well:) I'd be careful posting websites especially personal ones you may get banned, but then again I could be wrong:) Take Care:) I did check it out, awesome artist you are!!! Do you do that for a living?

Ok gotta run, my wrists hurt from typing all day doing stupid wedding timelines and seating plans and so on! I need help I am so stressed!! I could jump off a bridge:( Ok bye for now:)

Everyone take care!

Casey, you spin such a colorful tale...lol...I was crackin up.

Chatty, you sound pretty level headed to me...I'm surprised you even have the time to come here and post. I can just imagine how harried you must feel.

Great imput from everyone about adhesives and experiences.

Carat about that tongue reaching everywhere, it took a long time before it felt like I could, I know that. I happens though, eventually. I still have to use something to reach up high in the sides. It's been since last Oct. when I had my extractions. I think there is more of a ridge there where it was smooth before.

Dee, rinse with the diluted tea tree does help blisters heal faster. Might want to check into that. And it is a natural disinfectant for the mouth, don't ever swallow it. 1/4 Cup warm water and 5drops of oil, stir well, swish and spit. I try and swish for as long as I can, 2min. then do another mouth full and repeat till gone. Would of liked to see the picture, but it is not allowed. :(

Just got back from picking out our RV! Now I'm getting excited, we get the financing on Aug.8th and we close on the campsite Aug. 22.....No internet there for me....:( I'll be soooo far behind on posts. But I'll be in heaven in three weeks. Hubby is super excited, he never gets away for anything, this place is only 2 hrs. away, should be fun. Wish you could join us Casey, but no addy's allowed on here.

Better finish up the laundry, only got one load done today...two more are waiting. Fun, Not. lol Diana

Hi Everyone,
Sorry I have not been on, I have had so much going on with my husband being gone to conference, packing our house to move by myself (with both kids and both dogs under feet), dealing with doctors appts for both of my kids, myself and just going plain insane!!! Thank god this won't last forever, hubby will be back in time to move this weekend and he is taking leave to help put the house back together. He said it wasn't fair that he couldn't get out of the conference to help pack so he is going to be taking care of setting the house back up. I will probably be offline from tomorrow until next Thursday or Friday. These bone spurs are killing me, I have a few that just aren't coming out and the dentist is on vacation until Monday... yuck!!!

I hope everyone else is doing great.. keep me in your prayers.. between my mouth and my muscles (from the fibromyalgia) I am in so much pain.. and so much to do. Wish my kids were older and could help but at 6 and 8 there isn't a lot they can do.

Have a great week!!

Semperwife, all that stress isn't good for Fibro either! You do have your hands full. I hope you get some much needed rest after this is done. Good thing hubby realized it wasn't fair for you to do it all. Hope he is good at getting things set back up at the new place. I'm not sure I'd find everything if mine did that...lol. Hey, those 6 and 8yrs old can give great shoulder rubs..:) Take break often and have them dig in. Get a water pan out and soak those feet, have the younger one rub in some lotion....Awwwww, that would feel good as a break wouldn't it? Why is it that everything happens at once? Well, then again if it didn't a person could be stressed all year! lol Bet you'll be glad to have this move behind you and your spurs lazered or removed. My sister has Fibro. and she takes one benedryl before bed (along with her calcium mag. after dinner) she said it really helps her sleep and kind of takes some of the inflamation down. Just a suggestion in case you want to try that. The Calcium/Magnesium helps relax the muscles and decrease the pain. I suppose you already know this though. Hope you feeling better soon, see you on the post when you get back. Diana

Semperwife:

Good luck moving:) I dislike moving or any change I guess, lol:) Very considerate for Hubby to make a point to help out and ya didn't even have to kick his butt, lucky lady you are:) lol

DRS/Diana: Good advice fore semperwife's kids, lol, get them helping mommy!! lol
Thanks for saying I sound level headed, I don't feel it today!! LOL
I feel I have about 10 heads with different voices reminding me of where/what/when and then on top of all that I have to find time to get into work befor my butt gets fired, lol, I'm mommy by day, bookkeeper by night and scattered brained all the other times, lol!! I guess really I am doing ok, just so scared about seeing people and ya I keep thinking I am forgetting something for the wedding.....but I can't figure out what??? Oh well what can you do. I am trying to keep the attitude of "nothing is perfect, it does happen, expect the unexpected", and the best one I like is "it always could be worse" cause that is so true, so ya I just go with the flow, lol:) OK gotta run coffee pot beeping saying "come drink me!!!!"

Take care, thanks for letting me vent!!!!
Everyone take care, be safe and stay positive!!!

Hi everyone. Well I finally got some real sleep. Crawled on the bed about 10:15pm last night and woke up this morning at 10:00am. I guess my body just gave out. I am wondering if my sleeplessness has anything to do with the antibiotics now. I just cant wait to have life go back to the way it was two years ago. I am so tired of all this.

Diana, I am so glad you both are going to get a break. My youngest would be thrilled to be out camping for 3 weeks. My daughter would believe she was going to die after a weekend, and my oldest son, he just wouldn't go that far away from electronic devices or girls for even that long.
Chatty, I promise your day will be beautiful so long as you and him show up. The other stuff really doesn't matter. Oh and your daughter too.
Semperwife, I am sorry you are having to do the move part alone but I am sure that once it is all done and hubby is helping with the unpacking you will be glad he didn't help. My husband helped me pack for about an hour before I sent him out. He emptied every utencil drawer in the kitchen and just dumped them all into the bottom of a box. I heard the noise and came running, I stopped him just before he got the chance to empty the junk drawer on top of the rest. He said that he had already marked the box as kitchen drawer stuff so whats the problem???? I just stared at him.
I had my oldest two pack their own rooms and unpack their rooms since they were 4 and 5. We have only moved once since my youngest was born and he had a broken rib and stitches in his head and was on complete bed rest for that move from a bike trick that went bad. But for our upcoming move to SC he will be packing his room and unpacking it. In fact hubby and I were just discussing that we are leaving the packing of the upstairs to the boys. Because the new house is also set up that way and they can unpack the upstairs also. My daughter doesn't want to move, so for now its not in the plans, but since she is prone to changing her mind often I am sure that things will be different. Especially when she realizes that my wallet and the credit cards are coming with me. LOL
Its Friday, and my surgery is in three days 20 hours. I have a dress to finish up for a friend, her daughters birthday is tomorrow, she is going to be 29. Her daughter is sending mom and dad (and us, too) to the top of the Palms Casino here for a dinner party that she put together in thanks for giving that special day to her. I thought that was the sweetest thing I have ever heard of. Twenty of the people her mom and dad have known and that helped out while raising her. I was eleven when she was born. Her mom (my friend) was our live-in nanny for awile, so she babysat me, I watched her daughter who is giving the party, she in turn babysat my children, and now my daughter and son babysit her twins. Amazing how things repeat over and over. I am really excited, she even with over the whole menu to make sure that there would be stuff that I could eat there. Oh, this is the same child who stuffed bananas in all her teachers gas tanks because she was busted for ditching. Stole her ex-boyfriends car and sent it off the ridge of a cliff because he broke up with her for some other girl she didn't like and lied about it.

Okay, well the elves in the house aren't getting the laundry done so I guess its up to me again. I hope all have a great day.

Casey

Chatty, best advise for that mind of yours that seems to say '' remember to this and remember to that." all the time. Have a small note book and small pencil with you at all times, even by your bed. If you write it down, it will automatically let your head/mind relax, it will take a day or two first for your head to get it that once it's on paper your not have to constantly RE Mind youself to remember something important. That's what works for me anyway, once it's on paper forget I about it. Now I just worry till I can write it down...lol.

Casey, I have an idea for your man to help pack too. He will need much smaller boxes though. He only gets one box per drawer/cupboard, then he can write, top drawer in kitchen, junk drawer in kit. etc....lol. He just needs to write which place and stuff was in the space he took it from but only one box per area.
Sounds like your friends daughter got all the naughty out of herself early in life. lol. Sounds like it'll be a fun time.

This campsite were getting will have lots and lots of things at the club house for kids or adults to do. Mini golf, theres a game room with a pool table, video games, TV lounge, swimming pool, hot tub, basketball court, archery, Crafts, card games, volleyball court, shuffle board, a small store with soft serve ice cream...there is other things too, just don't have the list in front of me. Also this place is across the street from one of the largest fresh water lakes in Mn. So, there is plenty to rent and do there too. After recovering from getting the teeth yanked out last fall, this will be a nice change for us. Our 11th grade daughter and our son who is out of the house, are very excited to go. Daughter can bring a friend, that always helps with boredom. Next week hubby will haul the new to us, but used camper home so I can get it packed and the bed made. I have quite the 'list made'...lol. And I have a Male, and Female check off list.

Casey, now tell me again, which surgery is coming up for you. Are they redoing the jaw for implants?

Good luck to you too Chatty.

Diana

Thanks for the idea:)
My problem is there's alot of things that I can't do till the day of the wedding and it's driving me bananas cause to me that's leaving it till last minute and I don't like it but can't do much about it. I do have to give us credit though I had all the major planning done within a month of deciding we're getting married:) So it's been ok and relitivley easy but I am having thoughts like what if my teeth don't fit that morning, what if our flowers die over night....we're making our own wedding party flowers and now I think I am starting to regret it!! LOL
I am worrying about everything that is out of my control, lol it sucks. But only 8 more days and I can go back to normal well somewhat normal.....lol:)
Oh you're so lucky, I wanna go camping, I haven't done that in years:) Enjoy.......soak up every minute of relaxation!!!!

I hope everyone is well, enjoy this wonderful weekend, it's a long weekend for us here, woohoo!!!!!!!!!

Ok take care:)

HELP! Please!!!

I can't stand to use this Fixodent paste anymore! UGH ... ICKY POO!!

It takes forever to get it off and I gag allot ... and the roof of my mouth is getting very sore and tender!

I've tried the SeaBond wafers and they're too bulky, make dentures way too tight and my sore spot kills me!

What else is there? I chose to stay inside all day today, just so I could keep them out ... now I need to eat, I'm starving .. yet without any adhesive, I can't. :(

What do I do???

Dee have you tried using benzdent on the sore spots to help some, and I have decided that I really like using the powder the best. It doesn't have the gooey thing going on when I take them out, and I have no weird tastes in my mouth. I have several spots that are really hurting alot also. So I know how you feel.

Diana, thanks for the ideas. I have discovered that it is much less stressful for all if I do the packing of items and he does all the furniture, and then when we get there he gets to unpack the boxes I give him carefully or I get to go shopping to replace the things that he breaks. The camp site sounds awsome. I am sure that you all will have a wonderfully relaxing time.

Chatty, you need to breath girl. Your new teeth are fitting great, and the flowers will be beautiful.

Dee, my sister that has had dentures for 25yrs has discovered, fixident powder is her only choice of adhesive, get the denture wet, shake off the excess water, lay them on a napkin, slowly tap the bottle on its edge, not the bottom, too much comes out then. At first I only put it on the part that was the roof of my mouth, then I tried just the back teeth area, I tried different things to see what I liked best. Use only a small dusting, see if that works for you. Experiment a little. Maybe if your fit is really bad, you need a little more, but if it's rocking it'll come right back out easily, just add another dusting. I've never had it goop out the edges.

Casey, I hear ya with the heavy stuff when moving, for me that is exhausting, hope it all goes well for you. Right now we have lived in the same house for 11 1/2 yrs. Moving would be a nightmare, especially the attic!!! Need to really just bring it all down and go through it all. Good luck!

I have found that if you leave your dentures in for a full day that at the end of the day you can forcefully swish water in your mouth and the Fixodent will completely release. When I do this it leaves no residue. I misapplied some the other day and had to take them out after a couple hours and the technique did not work at all. So it has to be at the end of a full day of wearing them. It works though.

Okay I just wanted to say HI to all, I will try to pop in as soon as I can. I hope that you all have a great week, and that all of the sores, bone spurs and other owies go away quickly. I will be home by 5pm they say, but will be heavily medicated for the first couple of days, so I may not be able to find the laptop never mind figuring out how to open it and turn it on.

Send me some good thoughts tomorrow morning, because I am scared to death again.

Casey, I don't blame you for being scared. I can just imagine. I hope it all goes smoothly for you. It will be fun to read your next post though...lol....Just type away, we will figure it out, maybe. :)

OOkieWS. Thanks for the tip with the adhesive.

I'm off to paint a girlfriends den today,I've already painted her kit. and dining room already, she hire's me to do it, I like to paint thank goodness. Good thing she has air conditioning! I've noticed that when I do something intensense, like triming in around stuff with the paint, my jaw gets sore coz I'm clenching my teeth all the time, gotta learn to relax my mouth when I do that, it's a mindless thing though.I catch myself doing it and next thing I know, my jaw and teeth hurt. Maybe if I kept gum or something in my mouth that would work. Today I'll just tape and trim, might not get to the rolling it out part. She has a big china hutch in that room and all those dishes need washing, plus she is moving that hutch to another wall, I will start painting that wall ( the one she is move the hutch to) first. We are making big plans to go camping together one weekend, hopefully this fall yet. Have to find a weekend that hubby can't go.
She wants to get dentures on the top. Her teeth are not that bad, she does have two caps in the front but they need to be redone, I would redo those now that I know what I do about getting dentures! She does have a partial on the top, but it is just for the back teeth and she doesn't always have to wear it. It bugs her to wear that, so I can just imagine how it would bug her to wear a denture!!!!

Dee, how was the festival with hubby? You would of probably had more fun alone. Huh?

Chatty, how ya doing with the with those jitters? Did you make that list?

Hi all, I am just checking in too let you all know I hope things are getting better for everyone. My surgery is coming up in 7 days, and getting nervous.
Got my rice pillows, and plan to go out and get tea tree oil before it's time. Glad to hear all the info on the different adhesives. And I used a lot of the ideas about different foods, like Dees green bean puree. Fixing up a bunch of soups to freeze in small containers, so I won't have to cook, and stocked up on TV dinners for kids! Now I just hope I can adjust to the dentures. Some of what I read on here scares me, but I also get great info, and can see how mine is much easier then some of you! Casey will send good thoughts your way! Dee, it sounds like you are doing great! And Diana, the camp site sounds awesome! And way to go on the paint job! I love to paint too! Always changing the color of a room! Anyway, haven't checked in for a while, so wanted to say hi. Take care all.

Hiya everybody ...

Wanted to jump in and fill ya'll in. :)

Went to festival with husband .. and YEAH, I would have had much better time with ya'll! That will teach me! It was hot and humid too, which didn't help .. but gosh, he hardly even talked and acted like he was having horrible time .... after going there and to dinner with him tonight, I've made up my mind to stay away from him for some time .... and perhaps start a legal separation .. I'm sick of being hurt and treated rudely and disrespectful.

OK .. enough of that. I'm doing pretty good, have to use adhesive now each time, cause dentures are pretty loose. OH .. and HEY .. I LOVE the powder!! Thanks so much to whomever told me, sorry ... I have a horrible memory lately ... but it works great and it comes off soooo easy.

I take them out at night now ... I really need to get it out of my mouth for about 8 hours, and besides I still have a really bad sore spot and the blister is still there, I like letting that rest at night.

Sometimes during day I have a really dry mouth .. it comes and goes. I sometimes get tired of having it in ... but I deal with it. I also noticed today that it hurt to eat french fries ... cause they weren't really in tight I don't think. I did eat sesame chicken and lo mein last night .. mmmmmmmmm good.

Have a couple of questions: Can I eat on my gums now if I want? There really not sore ... just the front area where the blister is. Would it hurt to get some food (I'm takling very soft as in cake) in the extraction sites, as long as they're closing up good?

Also: would it be ok to leave the dentures in for a whole week-end now? Just wondering ...

Chatty ... congrats .. I THINK! LOL .. I guess after 2 bad ones .. I don't believe in marriage anymore . from now on, I"m out to just have fun .. no strings. Sorry about your grandparents not being able to make it. :( HEY .. can I take their place? I haven't been to a wedding in a long time .. I especially like the reception (food). LOL!

Betty: keep me posted on how it goes hon .... I think you'll do just fine!

Hugs to all,
Dee

Dee:
Thank you Dee:) I'm so sad, way more sad tonight about them not coming and I'm sad:( They are saying it's due to health, but actually they are doing ok, I just seen them last week and at that 2 months after my grandfathers heart attack he went to my sisters wedding so why not mine, oh well whatever, what's gonna happen next my maid of honor stubs her toe so she can't come, lol, oh gosh I should go knock on wood for good luck, ok I'll stop jinxing myself.

I'm happy to hear you like the powder, my fiance is out right now at a place we think we might have tracked it down too:)
Hey that blister maybe you should go get it checked out, are you still rinsing with salt water? Anytime I have had a little bubble type thing on my gums the denturist guy said it's infection forming so I'd get looked at if you haven't already:) I will admit since I started feeling better I have been slacking on the rinsing and my healing has kind of slowed down and I know thats why...bad me,lol:)

I'm happy to hear you are considering moving on....life is too short to be with someone who doesn't love you...the good, bad, ugly, ups and downs, the whole nine yards. If I was in your shoes I wouldn't say I don't believe in marriage, I'd say "next time in a mate I am not gonna settle for less, I deserve it", a more positive attitude, there is a positive in everything 99.9% of the time, lol:)

I know I love food right now too it is so good!!! Last night I had Indian food, Butter Chicken, Nan Bread and Basmati Rice at 10:00pm, oh wow my belly was hurting!! LOL

Ok take care.......Big Brothers coming on soon and I am addicted, lol!!!

Carat414 hope you are ok:)

Hi Dee
Just re-read your post. As for eating on your gums I don't see why it would be a problem unless you had orders not too. I can eat almost anything on my gums and I am 2 months post op.

Also what type of powder was it Poli Grip or Fixodent?

Thanks

Betty, so that is where you've been...it's like your nesting or something...at least that is what I thought of, but really I like to be prepared too. Good for you! You'll do great! You have the advantage of all this good information before your procedure.

Chatty , I'm sorry to hear about your grandparents bailing on you. I know it's a bummer. The most important part is the 'new hubby' and the people who do show up. Keep that in mind.

Dee, glad you liked the powder better, that all I've used and I like it. No gooping out the edges at all. That was me that said to take it...

I can't remember if you had really bad jaw degeneration or not, if not then you could eat with your gums, as long as it was soft and there were no exposed holes. Glad your realizing that hubby is not doing you one bit of good. Keep us posted in the steps you are taking with that so we can support you. Way to go girl!

Yesterday after getting home about 8pm with a sore jaw from clenching while I paint(even when I tried to catch myself and not do it). I notice a bill on the table for a gasteroscopy I had done on 5/30/05, this was the first bill to show up so far. I thought, I'll wait till morning to open it. Well I did and I just about fell over!!!!!!! I had a simple procedure and they want 3,420.00!!!!!!! I did receive something from my insurance stating that they paid 463.00 and my part of the bill was 463.00 so I figured I pay for 1/2....then I get this!!! They are not open in the bill dept. yet, I have to wait for another hour and 10min. or so, but you can bet I'm going to ask for an itemized statement, this bill didn't even state what procedure they did it just said it was a bill. What kind of crock is that!!! Something isn't right. It shouldn't of been that much. Boy am I ticked off, and upset!!! It doesn't state that they contacted my insurance or received a response or anything. I'm definately going to be calling them up.

Gotta run and do house chores that I didn't get to yesterday, work off some steam. Diana

Diana, I know exactly how you feel with the medical bill. I have been going back and forth for months now for what is dental and medical, and who is suppose to pay what. They are in the same office so you would think that at least one person could get up off the seat and talk to someone on the otherside and help me straighten this all out. But NNNNOOOOO.

Dee, I was eating with just my gums for two months, and with the amount of bone loss I had I don't see what you couldn't. I was told it would help with strengthing the gum tissue. Just becareful to rinse really well if you have any openings at all.

Robin, I am sorry that your grandparents wont feel up to going to the wedding. Heat is really hard on the elderly and if they have breathing or heart problems it makes it very hard for them to travel. I am sure that all the people that truly need to be there will be. Dont let it bother you or get you down.

Betty, glad to hear that you are still with us. Good Luck

As for me, I am swollen, black and blue again. The implant part went well I think. the added on some of the wax reline stuff on the bottom inside where my tongue goes and it is really agrivating. My tongue doesn't like not having room, and I can now reach even less places. Figures.
The top where they put the bone graphing is okay, it hurts the least of all the areas. The inside left where the harvested the bone from hurts more then anywhere else. They also had to do a gum graphing on the top right. So I had some of the top palette removed and placed there.

I cant wait for all this to be over for a while. I am tired of feeling down and hurting.

Hope all is having a great day.

Hi everyone,

Well its been two days now and I think I want to go back to the way it was before. I am in incrediable pain. They created some sort of dam so I can't move my tongue near the front of my mouth. Well it is cutting into the bottom of my mouth so bad I went in yesterday for a follow up and he tried to trim some of it but the denture piece cant be removed for 2 weeks and he didn't want to risk cutting me. So I am basically screwed. I get to rinse my mouth with lidocaine to help with the pain. Yippee.
I had 5 of the implants go really well. One didn't sit well so they did some more bone graphing to help it. All except that one are above the gum line. The one is below and in two months they will uncover it and set the post and then add the receiver part.
I dont know if any of you have had to need a gum graphing done or not but really think about it before you do it. I think that pain is more then the rest. They had to use a piece from the roof of my mouth for that and wow, it really hurts. Its only like a scraping and it burns at the slightest touch of my tongue or anything else that I put in my mouth. The place where it was placed on the upper right doesn't even hurt anywhere near as much.
My face is swollen again pretty much from the temples down into my neck. I am beginning to get stretch marks on my face from all this swelling after each surgery. Well its time for me to get up and start getting ready to go in for the follow up with my GP. And get the results of the last tests.

Hope all are doing well, Chatty you are going to be a beautiful bride so stop stressing.

Oh Casey, how awful all that must be for you!!! I hope they are giving you something besides the lidocaine. I will put you in my prayers! I can't even imagine. Take care and get lots of rest!

Dee, lol, yes nesting is a good word for it. And yes, I am so glad I found this site. I really like my dentist, but he doesn't really tell me much on what to expect. Probably afraid of scaring me off! And I feel way more prepared after finding this board.

Dee, hang tough about some time away from hubby! You might be surprised to find yourself feeling better about things. You deserve better. Anyone would! And glad to hear you're doing OK.
Good luck to you Chatty!

Oh Betty, dont you worry, I have a regular pharmacy going on over here. I just dont like taking them is the problem. I hate being drugged up all the time. The fuzzy headed and nausea are just to much for me. The lidocaine is just for the topical sores from the denture appliance.

Dee, I think that you should take those new teeth out for a night and enjoy yourself without the hubby. With the new hair do, new teeth, and a new outfit you should be ready to learn a new dance step. Go for it. And have some fun for me too.

Casey, You poor thing! Good grief! I feel for you girl. The mouth is suppose to heal the fast, but when it's bone or gum graphing, I wonder if that is true. What do they expect you to eat? Or how are you suppose to do it? I sure hope this is the end of it for you. You've been through enough! (funny about your hubby painting for a living, and you do it all at home!) If you need the drugs for pain, take them, your body has a hard time relaxing at all without them, then you just get other problems like sleep depravation and everything that comes with that. If you don't deep sleep your body leaches calcium from your bones like crazy, that is how shift workers get fibromyalgia(spelling?) their body never seems to get to a deep sleep.
Fuzzy headedness is better than the alternatives. Have I convinced you yet? lol. Now, in my case if I take pain meds at all, I get major constipated, there is a tea that works good for it, it is usually found in a walmart or groc. store, if not there then a health place, it's called smooth move, and it works great, it has senna in it. Thought I'd tell ya that just in case you get that too.

Chatty, your day is coming up fast now. Try to enjoy the moments before, during and after, sometimes the little hitches are the best memories. What you worry about just brings it to you. Think positive. Practice in your mind how beautiful your smile is going to be and how everything went so well. You'll make it through just fine, have a wonderful wedding day. :)

Betty, when is your big day again?

Dee, God doesn't make junk, so don't let any man treat you like you are, your on this earth for a very important reason, this guy is keeping you from realizing what that reason is. Spend some time building yourself back up to the person you are and should be, the right one will appear. Keep us posted on your progress.

Yesterday I went to my dentist to have my temp. denture repaired, the back left side broke. I went in, showed them where the repair needed to be done, told the receptionist ...here's my cell phone number, call me when it's done, then sat in my car and waited for the call. Man was that nice, no one trying to talk to me with my teeth out. I took my sewing along with me, I'm working on a 85yr. old hand sewn patchwork quilt, I trimed off the out side of the quilt, hemed that, and I'm using the trim for stuffing that's needed and the white cotton for repairs, then found material for patching the squares. I've done quite a bit already and there is a lot left to do. I'm doing everything by hand, but I like it. It's neat to know that the lady that did it was 14 at the time and did it all by hand herself. I don't even know how many squares I've sewn on it so far, I should count them. So...anyway, I get the call that the repair is done, and I go in to get it. My dentist say's now I had to build it up some, does it feel ok or do I need to grind some off? I said actually it feels better than before because my upper jaw is slanted and my bite didn't quite match on that side. He says, well that is why it keeps breaking then! (I've had that spot repaired before.) So now I'll be able to eat better on that side and I won't have a space there when I close my mouth. It doesn't touch the whole side but at least it does in the back. Whoo hoo!!!! I'm liken that! My dentist is someone I graduated with. I was a little aprehensive at first to have him as my dentist. Glad I went with him and not my old dentist. This one really cares. Talk to you all later, Diana

Hi Everyone!! I am back online.. in the new house.. it is definately taking alot longer to get everything back in place. Maybe it is just because I am so tired and sore but it will get there eventually.. mainly all that is left is our clothes, the kids clothes, pictures on the walls and drapery, and organizing the kids toys in the new hall closet as their bedrooms don't have enough room for all the toys and beds and such. Just have to go to walmart and get some clear storage bins and put all the kids toys in them, that way they can get out the bin they want to play with, take it to their rooms, play, then put it back in the hall closet. My husband has had to go back to work since yesterday and things gone done alot faster without him here.. LOL
We finally got all the stuff moved here on Monday .. so I feel like I have gotten alot done since Tuesday but the OCD is coming out and I am stressing over everything not being perfect.

Went to the dentist yesterday and explained the problem with the top not fitting correctly and he did a partial reline on the top front area to fill in the space.. now it feels like it doesn't want to come out at all. It was painfull to take it out to clean. It still feels like liquids are getting into the back of it.
He also said there were quiet a few bone spurs but he wants them to work out on their own, then if they don't he can take care of them. I had quiet a few spots that were killing me on the bottom so he adjusted them and so far they are okay but I feel 2 more places where they are rubbing.

Casey.. I am so sorry you are having such a hard time!! I will add you to my prayer list!! Is this the last surgery for you? I sure hope so, you don't need to go through anything else!!

Robin... Good Luck tomorrow.. you are going to be a beautiful bride!! Enjoy your moment, sharing that special day with the people who want to be there will be so much more special that to share it with people who don't want to be there. Don't let your grandparents put a black cloud on your beautiful day!! The flowers are going to be beautiful~~ your teeth are going to be beautiful and well fitting~~there will be love in abundance and you are going to outshine them all!!

Dee.. I sure hope you stick to your resolution.. don't be there for him to treat that way and he may realize what he is losing. You deserve happiness!!

Betty.. I am glad you found this board before your surgery.. I was so ill prepared with the rush of everything that I was not prepared and it made it harder. Let us know how you are doing.

Diana, that quilt sounds beautiful.. I love old quilts. One time I remember holding my grandma's old quilt thinking to myself.. if these squares could talk... if only they could tell of all the secrets they possess. It is still in my family.. maybe one day I will get it. I hope your teeth are working better for you now.

Everyone else.. sorry if I missed you.. it isn't because I meant too.. just scanned through the posts trying to play catch-up.. I hope everyone is doing well. Tomorrow we have a Family Picnic with the truck clubs and it is going to be a blast!! We are celebrating Brandon's birthday there with all his buddy's from the get togethers.. he loves Dodge Trucks.. and he says that one day Daddy's truck will be his!! It should be quiet a blast!! So I will see everyone on Sunday!!

Good luck Betty, I'm sure everything must be spotless in your place with you trying to keep so busy NOT thinking of what is coming up!

Yes, the quilt is busy work, like to do it when just sitting and watching tv with hubby or waiting at the dentist office. Have a big bag to carry everything in. It's coming along nicely.

Busy with getting all the laundry done for the bedding in the camper we are picking up tomorrow. Whoo hoo! I have almost everything ready to go. Will bring it home to load up, then take it to the campsite when we close on the property.

Had to get my denture patched up before that, don't want to take away from camping time once we get the property. Winks. Diana

Semperwife/Brandy....boy you have been one busy girl!!!!!!! Remember when that nasty ole OCD surfaces it's ugly head, that everything does not need to be done at once. It will get done, do one section at a time, make that list and do only so much a day, or it's too overwhelming. I have a girlfriend who has OCD. She said that it helps a lot to tackle one or two things on her list a day, then spend some time doing something fun too. Be good to yourself, it benefits your whole family when you do.

Yes, about that quilt, I sometimes feel very reverant about it. Like it is precious and hope I am doing it justice with my work on the top of the old squares.

Okay a big question again, dont laugh if this is the meds asking just fake it for me KKK???

Does anyone feel as though when they are laying down on your back that your face feels heavier with your dentures in???? OH please tell me its the dentures and not all this metal in my face.

Thank you for the encouraging words:) I need them, I am about to run real far real fast. Why does everyone have to come out of no where and complain about everything we are doing that day!!! I don't get, it's like weddings bring out the bickering in people and it's too the point the next person who complains/bickers I am gonna look at them and say DONT COME THEN!! Yesterday was a bad day, my dentures are loose to the point of talking isn't the easiest, 3 family members bailed on plans we had, my bro didn't pick up his tux...father inlaw bitching about something too, actually it's the men in our lives who are giving us a hard time, geesh eh!!

Just thought I would check in real quick. Daughter took me to my follow up appt today. He says I am very swollen, but all looks well. The swelling in the back of the jaw is causing internal pressure on my inner ear and that is why my balance is off. I am not to walk without assistance until the swelling goes down.
And my heavy feeling is from both the amount of metal I now have in my face, and the large amount of swelling from this last surgery. More then likely I will not notice it as much when the swelling goes down, but some people have said that they still get the sensation years afterwards. Yeah, just what I needed. LOL
I am back to the pain pills so I will close. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Chatty, just what you need is to hear others complain after all you've been through. The next one that does it, say, "Oh, I will trade places with you". Maybe they will think a bit. Get some fixident powder, works great on keeping those buggers in, it just takes a dusting, I use the the extra strength, the reg. works fine though too.

Casey, I hope your swelling goes down soon, takes about a week and a half sometimes, let others pamper you for a bit, it won't be forever. Your probably one of those people that does everything for everyone else and it feels strange for someone else doing for you. Just let them, it's best right now. You'll be back to your ole sassy self soon enough. Take care, Diana

Hey Ladies
It has been a while since I have checked in so sorry, I just have been so tired since I have started my job, still not wearing my teeth, but I am okay with that for now until I can save enough money for implants, my gums get a little sore but hey that is okay,
Yo Casey I have lost 13 pounds since I have started my job, I went from a size 10 to a size 7 happy dance,,, :) :) :) :)
everything else seems okay I am feeling real good I go back to the heart dr on wednesday for a follow up, well ladies have a great weekend I am going to try and check in more often, I am glad to hear everyone is doing a little better.

Susie that is wonderful.. I am so glad that you are doing so well. Those implants are going to be a blessing for you. Well deserved and earned.

Diana, yeah I am one of those people all right. I have OCD and usually its not to bad, but boy does it show its nasty little head when I am tired, cranky and in pain. So its basically all the time right now.

When doc called today I asked how long this pain is suppose to be. Told him about others having implants and not in much pain after a few days, I am 5 days post op and still in extreme pain. So I am now informed of the problems during the surgery. They talked to hubby during and after the surgery and decided that they would wait before telling me. Oh I am so mad. One of the clamps that holds the rod that is now my jawbone in place had slipped during the surgery so that had to be repaired, I had a large amount of bone graphing from two sites instead of one to the front bottom and they also used a synthetic bone material for the bone graphing on the top. But the part that got me, they had to dislocate my jaw bone, in order to do the bone and gum graphing on the top in the back. No wonder my face is so swollen and hurts so dang bad. HELLO!!!!

Okay I am done venting. Just needed to get that out and since moving my jaw to yell is out of the question right now I had to do it here. Sorry

Hi Casey! I am SO sorry what you are going thru! I can't even imagine! I just sat and pictured it this morning when I read it, and was horrified! Can't imagine how you felt! I hope you are finding some relief somehow! I sure will not whine about mine now, as it so simple in comparision! You hang in there! I'll say a prayer! Betty

Betluu, you whine and cry all you want with yours. Any pain in the mouth or ear is hard to handle for anyone.

Today was a bit better for me. Hubby is still in the dog house though, and my team of doctors is going to get the full blunt of my fury tomorrow. Its not even the fact that it happened and I had to go through all that, but they all discussed it, without me and decided that they were going to try and wait before telling me. I truly wish to cause each one of them the pain I feel for just one day each and see if any of them could handle it. Heck I handled natural child birth twice. Give me a break.

I hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend. Especially Chatty, who is now an ol' married broad. LOL I am so happy for you.

chatty, how'd the wedding go? Let us know!

Casey, good grief! What a shocker! Why did they bother put med. in you to go to sleep, why not just punch your lights out. Oh, they did that WHILE you were sleeping, didn't they. What a freaking trip. I get all antsy when I'm in extreme pain, like a nervous bug, hard to just sit it seems. You do what you have to to survive and make it through. Glad to hear your starting to feel like the pain is easing up a bit anyway.

Hey, AZ/susie....are you still liking that job? Hope your implants go smoothly.

Betty, when others whine it takes our mind off of our own problems. So, you go ahead and ease our troubles with yours when your time comes. :)

I had that repair done to the back left side of my temp. denture, well it broke again last night, I wasn't eating anything hard either! Shoot, I sure didn't want to turn around and go back to the dentist for another repair. Maybe it's because he is repairing it without taking the soft reline out first, just a patch job on the outside. At least he doesn't charge for patching.

Went and picked up the camper, did some major cleaning, vaccumed and shampoo'd the rugs and furniture, cleaned out all the vents and little light plates that had dead bugs in them. (how do they get in there I don't know.) Made up the bed and slept in there with hubby for the last two nights. Yesterday I washed all the window's and casing inside and out, boy what a difference when they are all clean. Checked out everything to make sure it works, and how to work it. Everything works great! Kinda fun sleeping out there too, even though it is only in our front yard right now. Started loading stuff in the camper after everything was cleaned up. We really like it! Made some coffee and ate out there last night while watching 1 or the 2 channels we get on the little tv. I've got the antenna book out this morning to see how to best tune the tv in. Had to clean up in house this morning, funning how things get so messy and your not even in the house? Better run and finish up, talk to you soon, Diana

Boy, I tell ya, my Doctors and Dentists are rethinking the hiding of the info from the patient idea now. I get the not wanting to upset me more thing. But I am sitting here in extreme pain while others are saying they had so little pain from the same thing and wondering what the heck is wrong with me.
My mouth is healing well, they are a little concerned about the low grade fever, and the equalibrium issue but we are all hoping it is just a minor thing from the stress my face has been through lately.
Diana, I am so glad that you are enjoying the camper before you even leave the yard. Did you buy the camper also or are you renting it??? I think I might have to get a new one for a secret place to hide.

Chatty, is probably out of the loop for a few days. Either honeymooning or in jail for killing someone for complaining at the wedding.
Well time for a nap for me.

Hope all is well for you all

Hello everybody!
I am just checking in to say I am still alive. Congratulations Mrs. Chatty!!!!!! LOL May you and Mr. Chatty have a lifetime of happiness together!
Casey, I am so sorry I missed that you were having yet another surgical procedure. I hope you are feeling better. You poor lady, you have been through so much.
It would be impossible for me to catch up on the posts. I haven't even made a dent in my e-mail. When I actually have a few minutes to sit here I usually play a game or two.
Dad is doing pretty good! One month ago today we were told they didn't think he would make it and he was put on life support. Now he is in a rehab facility and actually stood on his own two feet today while holding onto a walker! It's been a long hard struggle for him and he has a long way to go but he is definitely a fighter.
Hugs to all! I hope to keep up with new posts from now on.

Dont worry about not knowing about my surgery. At the rate I am going there will be plenty more. LOL
Today was better, I actually was able to eat some spagetti today, I am about as sick and tired of this liquid diet as can be. Felt good to have real food in my stomach.
Hopefully it wasn't a fluk thing.
Hey Dee how are you?????? Tell you to go and kick your heels up a little and you disappear for days.

Well I need to get a couple of things done before the kids get home from the movies.

Hope everyone is doing great.

Hi everyone! Hope all are doing well. My last night, and I am really nervous. Thankfully the dentist gave me a sleeping pill for tonight! I have tried to stay busy to keep my mind off it. My house sure is clean. Even shampooed the carpet! I have to be there early tomorrow. Sure will be glad when it's over! I think.... And thanks again for all the support, and helpful info!

OH! Question! How soon can I try the stuff like fixodent powder if the dentures are loose? I am just doing the tops. Thanks! Betty

08-09-2005, 07:28 PM
You cant use any of the glue products on the gum parts where you have extraction holes until they close. But if they start to get to loose really soon, you can use it on the roof part to help hold them. I also used it on the top to stop the slight movements that were causing me to gag.

I will be thinking of you tomorrow. Check in and let us know how you are as soon as you are up to it.

Carol, glad to hear your Dad is on the road to recovery! That is good news! Nice that your back on hear too. :)

Chatty...Way to go. Sounds like you made your mind up to have a good time at your wedding, glad the poligrip powder works for you! I like the powder type glue too. Fill us in on how things went, anxious to hear it. :)

Carat...We bought the camper, and combined that with the property loan so it is just one payment. Been having fun sleeping in there at night and cleaning the little detail things up. Bought two of those memory foam mattress pads and put one on top of the other, they were only 1" thick each, had a great sale on them at Target this week, they feel so much better on our bed. Love that!! The news said there was a big storm down by the property we are getting, hopefully everything is ok, haven't heard anything as of yet, might have to make a phone call to our realitor today. I hope your doing better every day with your surgery. Nice to even eat noodles isn't it. Who would of thought that would be classified as a hard food to eat, huh? Well, sort of hard considering liquid is your main staple.

Betty, good luck to you! Carat answered your question. That's what I was going to tell you too(about the glue). I'll be thinking of you today/tomorrow. I mourn over the foods I still have trouble with, but not those ugly teeth! lol.....I think Carat mourns her teeth because her problem if I remember right was with her gums and jaw, not with bad looking teeth. Right Carat? Or did I mess that up?

Well, I talked to my dentist's nurse, I drop off my temp. denture tonight at 4pm, the guy that makes the denture, (not my dentist) will redo it and cook the mended denture in his little pressure cooker overnight so it stays fixed after he glues it. The next morning(tomorrow) I will be there by 7:50 am and my dentist will put a soft reline in it for me. Whew, that was a relief to hear! I thought they were going to just mend the outside structure again, and leave this lining in there, which to me didn't make a bit of sense since the denture is cracked all the way through, that is why it wouldn't stay mended before! Hello! Hopefully this will solve the problem for a while. I haven't had a new soft reline since the middle of Feb. That is a long time, the glue has helped a lot! I'm NOT looking forward to having NO teeth tonight....Might have to put some rolled up cotton under my lip so I don't have that granny face tonight. UGH! Then I talk all funny too! Gotta do what ya gotta do I guess. Sigh.

Look forward to reading the posts. Bye for now, Diana

Diana.. I am trying to control the OCD.. and I did make my list but unfortunately I feel like I am going insane with boxes everywhere. It really got to me yesterday and I pushed myself too hard and I am paying the price for it today. I only have 2 more boxes in my room, 2 more in my son's room, 3 in the dining room and a couple small ones in the office so I feel like I am finally getting it under control. The trash runs tomorrow morning so I would like to get these out of here so I can relax a little. It has been a very trying 2 1/2 weeks.. but I will be okay. And I am sure you are doing a beautiful job on the quilt.

Casey, I sometimes feel like my mouth is so heavy with the dentures in place. And I feel like my mouth is huge and unnatural looking. I sure hope you are feeling better. I think you will be much better once the swelling goes down.

Robin.. I hope your wedding went beautiful!! I think that it is the stress of the upcoming event.. everyone gets a little high strung!!

Susie WTG!!! That is awesome that you have lost 13 pounds. I am glad that you like your job.

Oh you poor thing Casey.. I would be so upset with them for not telling me. That is just not right considering how much pain you were in and not understanding why. Big Hugs!!!

Wow Diana.. you were busy over the weekend.. but I sure bet it was nice in the camper.

Robin.. I am so happy for you!!!

Carol I am so glad your dad is doing better!! Don't worry about us.. we miss you and we know all the things that you have been dealing with.. so take care of your family.. and we will be online anytime you want to join us.

Betty.. I still mourn my teeth.. I still cry when my mouth hurts or the bones hurt for no reason.. everytime I clean these things I get sad and frusterated. Everytime my hubby wants to kiss I get sad because I can't kiss him the same way anymore. I just get sad when I look in the mirror and realize they are not my teeth anymore. But I guess I will get used to it.. everything happens for a reason even if we don't know the reasons.. I have to have faith that there was a reason for this to happen.

Diana.. I sure hope your teeth get fixed this time!! I can't stand having my teeth out.. I look like a droopy dog !!

Hope all is well with everyone.. sorry for the long post.. was trying to get everything in .. haha

talk to you ladies soon,
Brandy

HI Diana and anyone else curious!

Well Sunday was the best day of my life!! Nothing bugged me, except losing my dads camera and almost being late for my own wedding but hey stuff happens! LOL

My teeth were so good to me....so was mother nature, I was pms'ing the week before and was supposed to get my "friend" on our Wedding Day well thank gosh mother nature loves me (this week anyways) and it didn't come till yesterday, ya know pms'ing a week before a bride to be's wedding isn't a good time to pms!! LOL

I had no issues with any family at all, they all seameed to enjoy themselves and if they didn't they sure faked it well!! lol
Food I didn't eat, but it looked good, my teethies would of been fine to eat I was just not hungry. My step mom was holding/doing the reception for us and oh my lanta I would of never had such a beautiful reception if it wasn't for her, she cooked, decorated, cleaned, bartended, my mom made the cake just so much help from Family, what would we do without them eh:)

I soooooo wish we could share pictures on here or web addresses:( I was so scared of getting my picture taking and in everyone I am just beaming!! Not all show my teeth but I'd say 50/50 of no teeth and teeth showing, I may be ok with the dentures but I am still adjusting to my llook being a little different then before, some people were like whats different about you and couldn't figure it out, my own little secret!! Ya know my motto for the day was Nothing could wreck this day and I don't care! ANd oh my it helped, nothing bugged me, I'm sure there was mishaps I just didn't care!!! and still don't!!! Oh ya one more thing our daughter did soooooooooo good!!! She walked ever so slowly down the isle and stepped up to front almost bailed but recorrected her footing and she did great!

I wanna thank all of you here, you guys have given me sooo much support way more then I could of ever imagined!! THANK YOU! Everyones encouraging words really helped and I thought of all of you throughout the whole day!!!! OK I am very emotional today for some odd reason, but I never cried on my wedding day at all!!!! So maybe thats why I need a good cry, lol.

Ok take care!
Everyone of you have a special place in my heart and wedding even if you weren't there!!!

Hi all.... I am really stressed tonight... I took my meds this morning, and went in to the dentist in a huge fog at 7 am this morning.... Well, my dentist called in sick.... I was devastated.... At the time I was calm, and hubby drove me home, and I slept for hours.... Then I had to wake up and realize I have to go thru the heebie jeebies all over again till next WEDNESDAY! I am so upset. I am sure you all know how hard it is to work yourself up to it.... So a wasted script (4 pills for 10$ after insurance), a wasted morning, my husband had a wasted day off work.... Sorry just so frustrated... Now I have to start the being ready all over again. I am trying to tell myself it will be fine, but was a tough day. Thanks for letting me vent, and hope all are well. And thanks for your kind words!!! Betty

Oh Betty I am so sorry you had to go through all that. I know how you feel. I really didn't like getting myself prepared for a month for my last surgery and then a week before they tell me that it has to be changed because of my blood pressure, like that was going to help bring it down.
My oral surgeon gives me the pills directly, I dont get a script for them. You should say something to them about that. Good thing he decided to call in sick, I wouldn't want someone not feeling quite up to par working in my mouth.
I do hope you enjoyed your sleep and hopefully hubby managed to at least enjoy some of the extra day off.

Hi everyone.

Semper, you are alot further along then I would be, and I also have OCD. Try not to stress over moving. Trust me, those boxes will still be there if you were to sit down with a cup of tea and a magazine for short while to destress. It took me many years and many moves to figure that out. I still use this method with my cleaning. I will vacuum, dust and get the morning dishes out of the way, and then have a mug of tea and look through some of my magazines or cookbooks in deciding what I might make for dinner. It helps me have a little bit of sane time.
Drs, are you taking a computer with you camping??? If not let us know so we wont worry while you are enjoying the season with your family.

Suzie, great job on the downsizing. I found your pounds though. I am wearing a size 7 for the first time in my life, although I have gone from a size 5 to the 7. I am kinda enjoying having a little bit more meat on me, especially in certain areas. LOL

Well I am doing alot better today. Quite a bit of the swelling has gone done in the last couple of days. The bruising is still yellow but improving. I can actually wiggle my jaw back and forth a little bit again with out major pain, and I managed to work my way through a grilled cheese sandwich, with no crust for lunch today.
Thank you everyone for the kind words and special thoughts. They mean alot to me.
And the prayers are working, cause I am feeling much better.

Thursday is animal cleaning day, dog and cat beds and condos all get a washing so I better get off here and get going.
Hope everyone is doing wonderfully,

Hi Everyone,

It seems like forever since I've been here! I hope all of you are well and I'll have to get busy catching up on posts. I did see that Chatty had a beautiful wedding. How wonderful!

Since I was last here, I've been in a very serious car accident. It was 2 weeks ago tomorrow. I was driving on the interstate and whether something hit my car or I hit something or a tire blew...I'll never know. Anyway, I lost control of the car and went through the guardrail airborne into the opposite lane of traffic (no others injured) and rolled 8 times down a 50 foot embankment. I am one VERY lucky lady. I never lost consciousness, was transported to the hospital and spent 4 days there. Nothing was broken, no stitches, but I have one very bruised body, a lot of aches and pains and the most irritating problem is vertigo from a head trauma. I have an appointment with a local ENT here at home to hopefully resolve that. So, I'm home recuperating...my bruises are becoming technicolor and just trying to get back to normal which may take awhile. My H has been a real trooper about it all and has been waiting on me hand and foot and cooking me gourmet meals everynight. It's going to be awhile before I'm my old self, but I feel lucky just to be here.

So, in case you were wondering, my dentures came through the accident with flying colors. Nothing happened to them, but I did bite my tongue pretty good in a couple of places. They even let me keep my dentures in during the entire hospital stay. I was supposed to be getting a soft reline this week but that's been postponed for awhile. I have a lot of swelling on the left side of my face and I can't lean back in the dentist's chair because of the vertigo right now so the reline is on hold. After all I've been through, I can't believe that my dentures is one thing that isn't giving me problems right now. It's been less than 6 weeks now since my extractions and everything feels pretty comfortable. And to think that 2 weeks ago my biggest complaint was a sore spot or two from my dentures rubbing!!

So, everyone, that's why I haven't been around for awhile! Now that I feel up to reading a computer screen, I'll be catching up with you all. Take care.

Pam

Pam, you poor thing, I am so happy to hear that you came out of it as well as you did. Lucky Lady you are.
I dont have vertigo, thank goodness, I am just now getting my equalibrium back from the swelling around my right inner ear. That was really hard to deal with, so I know you really must be having a hard time. Hopefully they can find the issue and get it cleared up for you.
So glad that you are back, and I will be having you in my prayers for a real speedy recovery.

Great wedding story Robin, congrats again! It's nice that you could smile in some pictures, I bet they will look great!

Betty, so sorry your surgery was delayed:( what a bummer. Now you'll just have to gear yourself up for the next big day. Maybe there was a reason it was delayed, sometimes we just don't know why.

AZ..hope your migranes don't last too long, those are awful, I don't get them, I have friends that do though. Good job on the weight loss and Job.

Carat/Casey...we are not taking a computer with us as of yet, might talk the hubby into getting his laptop from our store hooked up for wireless though. They are suppose to be getting a wireless signal at the campsite soon. We don't close on the property till Aug. 22, we are talking about going down there on the 21st and staying that night then signing the papers and moving the camper on the site after that. Fun! I might stay for a bit, hubby has to come back though. I'm glad to hear your feeling a little better everyday, prayers and hugs for you on your continued recovery.

Pam, I'm just now reading your post, a car accident!!!!OMGosh! I should say that was quite the accident, a miracle your on here typing at all!!!! I hope your dizzy's go away, makes a person feel kind of sick when your spinning like that. Good that hubby is there for you. And your new teeth are still good to go. Get well soon!

Hey Ladies
I can see alot of you are doing much better congrats, there was a flyer on my car at work about a new dentist that opened in my very small town they do cosmetic dentistry and a bunch of other stuff, I am going to really start researching the implants, I am just scared about the ones that I want is the one that screws into the bone and the tooth screws into the that. My bp is still running way low tonight was the lowest 92/60 I had to buy a moniter a couple of weeks ago to keep track of my bp I go into the dr on wed for my headaches I think it from the low bp. Well I want everyone to keep up the good job, you guys are still a BIG inspiration to me, and one day I will have my teeth, oh by the way my poor dentures are just sitting in the bathroom  oh well have a great rest of the weekend.

Susie, you are going to try for the individual implants for each tooth??? Wow!!!!
I looked into that when I first had my surgery. Here for me to have all lowers is 32,000.00. The uppers were 36,000.00. And if I did it all at one time and paid cash up front they would do it for 58,000.00. That is 14 uppers and 14 lowers. I did hear that in Mexico, you can have the same full implants placed at less then 800.00 per tooth. But then you would also have to add the travel expenses down there at least 4 times for the whole treatment.
Have you been trying to wear your dentures or did you just give up on those??? My facial structure is so different with out my dentures in, I look completely different.
Your low blood pressure is my normal pressure. I hope the doctor appointment goes well for you.
Glad to hear you are doing well otherwise.
Hope everyone else is doing great.

Casey, you sound so much better, soon the bottoms will start to heal too.

AZ, I hope you find a solution to your teeth problem. How awful to go through everything and not be able to even wear them!

Betty ....sure do hope the doctor shows up this time.

I'm trying to get everything ready, we leave for camping next sunday. I'm painting the stove hood vent, can only put on one coat every 24hrs. I'd like to do three. Sanded, primed and painted the back bumper. Looks way better. Stitched up a few area's on the curtains where it was needed. Tore out that stinky run in the out side storage area, which is under our bed, put a new rug in there. Whoa, way better too. Better catch up on my emails. My teeth are great by the way. The mending is much better now. The dentist said I could wait till after the first of the year to have my permant ones made so my insurance will cover more of it. Later, Diana

Diane, wow you have really been busy. Yeah, I feel really good again today so far.
Hope that you have a really great time relaxing up there. You are using a paint that is made for heated appliances or for an engine I hope. My cousin painted her kitchen stove hood with a latex spray paint, when she cooking a couple nights later the steam activated the paint chemicals and it caused the whole house to get sick. My nephew, who was 14, was in the hospital for over a week because of it. So be careful.

Betty, just relax and you will do great. I am sure the dentist will show this time.

Hubby is going to the dentist today. I was thinking of sneaking in with him and maybe after his appointment I could get the dentist to remove a couple of these stitches that are bothering me. I feel them moving under the dentures, and a couple of times the knot part I am assuming gets in an area that really hurts with any pressure.
I am dying to see what is under these dentures. I am suppose to go on Thursday for my appointment, but I am so impatient.

Hope everyone is doing great.

Carol if you are still reading the posts, you and your family are still in my prayers.

Casey, find out if it was latex for sure, or oil paint, clean up with mineral spirits or water. See the kind I'm using is for implament painting, like tractors and such. The guy at Ace said it should be fine, this takes 24hrs between coats, that is a long time to dry. Great, I hope I don't have to redo it, don't want to get sick though, will run exhaust fan, always, also, most of the paint is on the out side, the only inside part is the sides. I'm going to see what I can find out here, can you ask her if it was latex? That is a water based paint. Thanks in advance. Diana

CARAT414
08-15-2005, 06:52 PM
She said the spray can said latex enamel for automotive purposes. It was made by Krylon.

Water didn't work to clean up her hands so that is a bit confusing to me. She said it just smeared and made a huge mess and she had to use gasoline to clean her hands since she didn't have any mineral spirits or paint thinner. So it had to be an oil based paint. UMMMM. Going to ask hubby when he gets home.

I didn't get to go with him to the dentist, they are swamped and they said they needed to take xrays before removing the bottom denture. Darn, now I have to wait until Thursday.

I did call Ace and I talked to the guy that helped me. He said at first just make sure to use the vent blower just in case. He had never heard of the problem that your sister had with hers. If you find out anything else let me know. OK? Thanks, Diana

Hi guys,

Haven't been on much ... still fighting depression and now bronchitis. ICK!

OH .. and WHY didn't somebody tell me that having the impression done for the soft reline in the office would be so HORRIBLE!???

Not sure if ya'll had this done, but they put this terribly smelling stuff on the dentures, and I had to bit down on it for 10 minutes ... all the while it was BURNING my mouth like crazy, making my eyes water and I wanted to vomit! It smelled like when they do the acrylic nails.

Anyway, it didn't work ... was still real loose. So now I go in this Friday for a Lab Reline ... please tell me I don't have to do the same thing over again!!!

What a horrible experience ... with modern science, there's NO way anybody should have to go thru that!

Did ya'll have the same experience?
Dee

Diana, so long as you sanded it really well, and washed it down with TSP you should be okay with an oil base. It might start to peel so watch it so none of it falls into your food.

Good Luck

Dee, good to hear from you again. So sorry that you are battling both depression and bronchitis.
I would have told you about the impression paste if you had asked. I had to have it done three times in one visit because I kept getting sick. Hubby gets sick from it to so its not just us.
What are the doctors doing for the bronchitis????? Stay well girl. And as far as the depression goes. I wish I could just jump through the computer and give you a big hug. You are a strong woman and you can get through this, just take it one day at a time, and if that day seems to get to much then break it up into sections. Day Evening and Night. Let us know if there is anything that we can do.

Hi Casey,

Well ... at least I know it's not just me .. man, they should find another way to do that!

Anyway, is it going to be the same procedure for the 'hard reline' .. or lab reline? I sure hope not!

I would love nothing more then to lie to you and tell you that it will never happen again, but I cant. If for some reason they need to do redo it because it is not right or when you need another reline done it will be the same. I am so sorry for not forwarning you.

Be sure that during the time that stuff is in your mouth that you breath through your nose slowly and it helps when I close my eyes and think of someplace else. Also bite hard and consistant through your whole mouth, not just in the front or on the back teeth. This will stop the rocking from happening.

Hope everything else is going okay.

Hi all, thanks for the encouraging words! I went to the dentist office today to get my prescription that will knock me out (Halcion) and the dentist was there. He felt SO bad about cancelling on me the other day. He is still a little sick, so we are gonna do it Thursday morning instead of tomorrow. But he was so nice about it, and so sorry, I am Ok waiting one more day. Trying to be patient. And Dee, how awful for you! Did they not do impressions before they took the teeth? I have had two done already. With my teeth in. I don't care for it, but breathing thru your nose slowly really does help. And hope you are starting to feel good again Casey. And I hope you have a wonderful time camping Diana! And hope you feel better soon Dee! I get those dang depressions sometime too, and they are really hard. I think mine is because of the menopause I am going thru. I get depressed, sometimes anxious, or I will feel really really good. Just up and down. it's hard when we have two teenagers and a 11 year old still left at home. lol, They never know what mood is up for the day! Anyway, have a great day all, and get better! Betty

Hey Casey,

UGH!!!! Hate to go thru that again ... it's the burning that is hard and the smell .. it makes my eyes water too .. and I want to throw up. Waaaaaaa! I want my mommy!

OK ... now that I got that out .. LOL.

I'll remember what you said and try that .. I"m usually pretty good at 'going somewhere else' cause that's what I did for both labor and delivery and has very little pain.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Hi Betty! So you've not gone yet? I've been thinking of you ... hope it all goes well, you'll be in my thoughts on Thursday. HUGS!

Yup, depression is very hard .. and I'm unable to take most anti-depressants, so that's a bummer. Also one of the meds I'm on causes depression .. JUST what I need! NOT!

I can imagine it's worse with children, thankfully mine are grown and gone ... all though, now I miss them. SIGH, are we ever satisfied? LOL ..

To All: Big hugs to everybody... I'm still not use to the dentures, in that I still don't like the 'feel' of them on the roof of my mouth, not sure I ever will .. but not much I can do now. LOL.

My mouth gets dry allot, so I drink allot ... and I'm not as hungry as usual because I just don't like the feel of the dentures on top and not being able to 'feel' the food. Also, because I have to use adhesive to keep them in now all the time, the chewing just isn't 'right' somehow, if you know what I mean.

Course, right now I can't TASTE because of my cold!!! Can we say BUMMER!!! ARGHHHHHHHHH!!!

Husband is a 'bit' better .... he had to go to ER today for an infection in his teeth and gums ... see, that'll teach him to take care if them! He has many bad teeth, and has to start getting them out ... so now I think he has no choice. They had to give him antibiotics IV .. it was so bad. He ended up here afterward and slept for 4 hours, now he's gone out to Burger King for dinner. I like the 'flat' burgers better than fat ones.

Speaking of food, I keep getting stuff stuck on the roof of the dentures, ugh .. that's not fun in restaurants! I also have a habit of pushing my teeth together, not sure why, I never did that before the dentures. My jaws get sore and I have to remind myself to stop.

Hey to everybody else I didn't mention . without going back and reading, I forget everybody's name... sorry.

OH YEAH . .. Betty, I'm also in menopause .. or pre-manopause, they don't know yet, all messed up with periods, moody, just lots of stuff. Another bummer in life.

Talk to ya'll soon!

Hugs,
Dee

Hi Dee and Casey. Yes the depression can be hard. I try to stay busy so that helps sometimes. And hope you husband does OK Dee. Gotta be hard to have someone you care about sick. And I have wondered if food seems different after the teeth are gone. Sigh, I really love my food, lol. And Casey I SO understand. The 3 kids left are actually my nephew , 17, two nieces, 16, and 11... My boys are grown and gone, 32, and 28. I have 3 grandkids, and one on the way, maybe even tonight (waiting to hear whats up with my daughter in law). The other 3 have been with us since they were babies. So, they tend to wear me out too. And the teenage years are so tough! But like Dee said, I sure miss the ones that are gone. The oldest lives in KC, so it's hard. Miss the granbabies more then the kids sometimes, lol. I will let you know how Thursday goes. Sure wish it was over. I think. Then it's a whole new getting used to new teeth. Anyway, best too all! I will say a prayer for all us denture people! lol, Betty

Just a report in. It's been a month plus 5 days since I got my dentures. I have eaten everything I ate before except for steak, an apple, and corn on the cob. Haven't tried them yet. Now I'm starting to gain some of the weight back that I lost and I don't like it one bit. It's looking like I'll go back to tomato soup for a while. Not because of the teeth, but because I like being skinny. That stuff has no nutritional value at all. I have noticed that since my gums have stopped being swollen that the dentures make my mouth stick out too much. When I take them out at the end of the day the fixodent has filled in a decent gap between the gums and dentures. In fact, there are only 5 small spots where the dentures even touch my gums.

When I get my reline in a couple months (thanks for the info in another post, now I am dreading the chemical dealie) will they be able to "whittle down" the front of my dentures so they are closer to my real gums and not sticking out over 1/8th inch? Or do I have to wait the whole year for the "real" ones?

CARAT414
08-17-2005, 01:32 AM
Opps, sorry Ookie that its bad news on the nasty taste but at least you are prepared for it now right???? Just breath slowly through your nose, and close your eyes and go somewhere else.

I really dont understand what you mean by whittle them down. If you are talking about the thickness of the denture wall between your gum and your lips, I am sorry to tell you this but my dentist pretty much laughed when I asked if this could be done. Mine were so huge that I was unable to close my lips together with out straining. The reline is a usually a clear material that is soft, and it just fills in where the swelling has occured. My biggest suggestion is to remember to clench your teeth for a few hours after you get them in and dont place them in warm water or leave them out in the air.

It was great to hear from you again, and just so you know I am VERY jealous that you are able to eat and I am still on a soft liquid drinks. I am starting to dream of gorging my self at every buffet in this town. Trust me that is a whole lot of buffets.

Hey Ladies

Casey I am glad you are doing so much better, as far as my implants I do not know what I am going to do, I have heard of a procedure where they take like 4 teeth at a time and they snap in the cost of that is 2800.00 I am going to some research, I have tried to put the dentures in every once in awhile but forget it, no one at work even knows that I have no top teeth when I told my boss she was shocked, and I am dealing with 64 tenants plus new people all the time.

Dee I had the same problem when I was wearing my dentures everytime I ate I got food stuck between my denture and the roof of my mouth it was so uncomfortable one time I was not paying attention and I ate a chip with hot sauce, oh mama not even water helped I had to take them out I had to run down the hall to the bathroom pulling them out everyone in my house was laughing, so yur not alone in that department.
well ladies keep smiling things will get better, hahah comming from someone like myself I was told that some people just can not wear dentures I think I am one of them.

I so get what you mean as whittle them down. I noticed as soon as mine fit not as good that they buldged my mouth out(you can see I posted questions on the site somewhere) but when I got the tissue conditioner/temp reline done oh my.....what a difference on how they sit in your mouth. I got my reline done July 25th and now 3 weeks later they are to big again(I am still healing) and they are bulging my mouth out.
The only way they wont settle back in is if they were to bulgy to begin with but by the sounds of what you are explaining I definetley think you need to go in and get a reline or wait it out with the bulge like I am,lol:)

Hope everyone is well, Betluu good luck on Thursday, Carat woohoo no drugs, are you sleeping any beter? Diana, are you camping still? I need to read the posts then I'll catch up, geesh bad me:)

Dee, my relines have not really been what I would classify as bad. I wonder if your mouth is sensitive. I've had quite a few of them. Maybe do a saltwater rinse right before he does the impression? Maybe with the cold you'll taste it less this time? I've got some nasty cold right now too. Hubby got it too. Yeah! bronchitis would be much worse though. Hope your health is better soon.

Betty, the impressions everyone is talking about is for the inside liner of your denture, they put the goop in the denture and have you bite down hard and even for about ten min. then they trim off the overflow. I bite down for 45min. after that too. My dentist says it continues to form and I haven't had a problem with fit after one. I also take my fingers and push against where my front gums are, this makes it thinner there. Ok,for me, I have to make sure and put on some lip balm of some kind, if the reline gets on my lip it gives me a blister there. As long as I have some lip balm on there it doesn't stick though. Just a tip for you.

Ookie....My dentist did take a dremmel tool to mine at the beginning. He took off just a bit, but it was in the inside with the liner removed, then he relined it. Fixodent is my pal as far as eating though, if I didn't use it they would rock no matter what.

Chatty, I haven't gone anywhere yet, but I'm sleeping in the camper in the front yard...giggles...it's such a compfy bed, I sleep really good! Today is our 26th wedding ann. This camper and spot at a campsite we bought is our ann. gift to each other, plus this new computer, which is way better than the one we had before. Fun!! Soon, we will be leaving, not till the end of the week though. We really don't endulge ourself or spend that much on things or stuff, so this was quite the year. Hope it doesn't come back and bite us one day. I get to worrying about that.

Casey, I hear you about that feeling of not being able to close your lips. This last time, when I went overnight with no denture to have that repair done, then the next day I went back to have the reline put in, even after that they felt like I couldn't close my mouth properly and everything felt too big. But...that only lasted about a day and a half, now I feel normal again. Soon you'll be able to go to the buffets in town, be picky what you do eat at first, the jaw gets tired easy and the gums get sore fast at first. Take it slow, and enjoy every single bite, (like I know you would...lol)

Az/Susie, Well, if there is anything positive about your situation it's that no one can tell when your teeth are out. I look like my whole upper lip just fell and sunk in. The only time I had problems with food under my plate is when I don't put the fixodent powder on the roof of the denture, even just a little helps. I takes me a couple days before my mouth feels normal if I take out the denture for any length of time. Your the one with the major gag reflex, right? How awful. I don't get it, but I have some friends that do. I hope you find a solution to your delima.

I'm tackling the laundry....AGAIN.. and getting a few other chores out of the way today, we finally are getting some rain here, we've had a ban on burning for the last week, it's been so dry.
Everyone have a good day. Diana

Hey Ladies
So sorry for misunderstanding the problem with the food with this migraine and the meds they have me on I am fuzzy headed. Yes I was the one with the severe gagging and the throwing up, I think the reason no one can tell that I have no upper teeth is I have a very small mouth I think that is why I can not wear my dentures. I do try every once in a while but I get the same reaction so that is why I am thinking about implants. If I do not get implants then I am going to find a different dentist maybe they can do something with my dentures, ( Hey Casey I might look up your dentist lol) like I said everyone keep up the good work I am thinking about everyone. :D

It took me a full week at least before the bleeding stopped. I didn't have that much pain. But then, my mouth hurt terribly all the time before I had them extracted. So when the teeth were gone it actually felt better. I still find myself bracing for the shot of pain when I take a drink. Pain is gone though, so it's always a relief. Sometimes I have a slight "phantom" pain like I used to live with all the time, but I think it's just in my mind. Remembering how it used to be all the time or something.

Try to eat solid food as soon as possible. I didn't want to, but my mother (she has had false teeth since she was 30) made me try. Scrambled eggs are not soft 3 days after extractions. And swallowing was near impossible. But I kept at it and now I eat pretty much everything I ate before. Even had an apple today. Have plenty to drink to wash the food down. It helps.

Why wouldn't you be able to take them out? The dentist told me to leave them in the first night, then take them out, clean them, and put them back in before coming back the next day. He also told me not to sleep in them. I don't think I could have survived if I hadn't been able to get that bloody Fixodent out of my mouth every night.

I wonder why it seems like dentists give such different directions for after care? Every one I have read about was different. Seems like there would be a set way to do it.

Oh my tummy hurts!!!!!

I ate steak, and fried zuccini, and then a piece of apple pie. Hubby took me out to the Hard Rock Casino for a little while, (I won 250.00 Yeah for me)and there I had some chicken wings with ranch dressing while watching the band. Danced a little bit.
Obviously a little to much cause now my tummy hurts. So glad that its not my mouth.

The low down from the dentist is that I am healing really well, the broken bracket was really no biggy as far as healing issues, although I would have been so much more comfortable not having a piece of metal stabbing me in the gums. I had a hard reline done on the tops and they fit great again. Originally I was suppose to go back on Sept 1 but now he says I am doing so well I dont have to come in until the 15th unless I feel I need something. And I received the okay to fly. So the trip to SC in a couple weeks is a go.

I hope everyone else has a day as good as mine,

The surgery went fine even thought I was awake. Very drowsy. I went home and slept, and wow! When the novacain wore off I was amazed at bad I hurt. But you guys are my inspiration, so I too can do this. For now, lol, I'll take another pain pill, and lay down. Thank God for my sweet husband who helps me. Oh, and how long does this bleeding go on. It's about yuck, and I can't take them out. He said I wouldn't be able to get them back in.... Anyway thanks for letting me do that whining you said I could earlier. Betty

Betty!! I'm so glad it's all over for you!! At least the extractions. :)

My dentist also told me to leave them in until I saw her the next morning, and she took them out, rinsed them off, I rinsed my mouth out gently while there, then she put them back in.

Yes they do hurt for a few days, because your gums are swollen and sore. It WILL get better fast, trust me!

I bled for about 3 days I think, but it does clot up eventually. I know the bleeding is the 'yuck' part.

Remember me talking about what I ate? I would drink allot of water, milk, juices ... then I would blend everything I wanted into 'liquify' or at least 'pureed'. I hard-boilded eggs and put a bit of milk in them .. some salt and blended them up for breakfast. I did green beans with the juice along with chicken breasts for lunch ... then maybe soup and applesauce for dinner.

I wanted to make sure I got lots of vitamins and minerals .. and didn't just exist on soup, pudding and jello. ;)

I found that I healed really fast, and dentist was surprised .. maybe cause I ate so well, it was just 'soft'. :D

It does hurt for a few days, when you take them out and put them back in, at least it did for me. That will go away too, I promise.

I'm about 1 month post-op, and I'm healing really good, almost all closed up now. I eat allot of things, only reason I can't eat everything yet is because dentures are really loose now and I go for my 'lab' reline next week, and also because my gums are still somewhat sore when I bite on really hard foods.

Hang in there honey, it gets easier every day!

Great Big Huggles!

Thanks to you all for the kind words. I am not in as much pain today. Still bleeding some which is yuck. I am a little depressed this morning. I don't know how I will ever get used to this roof in my mouth! It feels so thick and like something I need to swallow. When I put any fluids or pills in my mouth it feels like I need to swallow that wad back there first, and make me feel gaggy.... Can't imagine putting food in there... I am scared to pull the dentures out (and I want them out badly) because I am afraid it might mess with my clots if I have any. Sure don't want dry socket. But don't feel that the salt rinse will do much with them in there, plus I really want to clean them. They taste yuck. The dentist said I could come in if I need to , otherwise make a appt. for next week, but no after care instructions... May call him later. Don't really want him near my mouth today if you know what I mean. Thanks to all of you so much for the encouragement. It's the first thing I wanted to check when I got up this morning. And Casey! How great and far you have come! Actually all of you since I started here! Best to all! Betty

Thanks Betty.

Now back to you, I know it feels like you have to much in your mouth but it does get better, and also you permanents are even thinner. Once the swelling starts to go down and some of the gagging stops it wont be quite as bad. I too was depressed for the first couple of days, its a very big change to make, but I am sure you can do this.

Hi everyone else.

Hi Casey, thanks, I know you are right. Actually I had some tea, ate soup like you said, took my pain pill, and felt better. The dentist called and said I could take them out long enough to rinse, and clean, which was scary to do the first time, but it feels so much better. And I'm relieved to be getting salt water on them. Plus it helped I think, to actually see them and realize it's not so thick. Just the swelling like you said. Funny what your brain can do to you with the unknown! If you can make it thru your surgeries, I can do this. Oh! I didn't look as bad as I thought I would without teeth, lol, and it will probably not be as good when the swelling goes away. Anyway, thanks for the encouragement! Now I will lay down, and enjoy my time to do nothing! Betty

I am now on the hunt for tissue conditioner/temp reline and am gonna order some and do my damn own!
I just paid 98.00 for upper & lower and I swear it didn't take, he says my mouth has dramitically changed since they did the impressions for dentures and he can't get this fit much better because the gums changed so much, so I do realize he only can do so much with what he has to work with but like come on help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like do I have to buy another set now or......?

So hopefully someone here can answer this: WHen you get tissue conditioning/temp reline done if I wanted to take them out do I or not put them in water?

Thanks everyone,just needed to vent!!!!

Geesh, I missed one day and I was behind by 3 pages or so...!!! lol.

Chatty, I've only heard it called a soft reline. Is that what you mean? I take mine out if I want but bite down for at least 45min. after he trims off the excess. Rinse with cold water only, the hot water may not be good to a fresh reline. Someone said to not let them get dry either. I suppose you could use a denture cup with cool water in it if your going to take them out for a while.

Betty, ...It will get better. It seems like forever, I know. Are you elevating yourself when laying down, I put pillows under my knees too, easier on the back. Eventually you will not notice the thickness of the denture unless you leave them out overnight after your all healed up. If I do that I have to get used to them all over again. I loved my little rice packs. Glad to hear your eating something, my thing was yogurt and cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, and that chocolate diet drink stuff like ensure, the dark choc. kind was best. Canned green beans were soft enough too. Good luck to you, your doing fine, get your rest and pamper yourself, it won't last forever (the hurting or the pampering)

Casey, it's about time you feel better girl, you have had your share by far! Congrats on the pain free mouth!!

Dee.....I hope your lab reline is a ton better than what you've been getting! Ugh, that stuff they were using on you sounds just awful!

I'm packing up the camper, and just about ready to pack my bag of clothing, this way I can bring it back in a suitcase. Soon!!! Whoo hoo....I'm sure by the time I get back I'll be looking for the new post of "Dental Problems(please help)Part 3!! This post is getting long again. What page was it when we changed last time....90's?

Best to everyone...what ever Casey's having I want some of that...!lol Diana

Hi, hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Diana, have a great time camping and check in if you can. Stay safe.

Chatty, did you find and reline material????

Dee, I hope you are feeling better, I know being sick really sucks when its hot out too.

Betty how are you doing????? The swelling should be going down and hopefully you are feeling a bit better. Keep up on those rice packs, and it will only be a memory soon.

Me, well I am eating everyone out of the house. I should be out of these clothes and wearing hubbys by the end of the month. LOL
We have had a few of the new communities pop up around here that are self contained. They look like a step back in time with main street shops, patio bistros, and apartments above them. A dentist, doctors office, and even a post office. All of this in a park type setting. Its really neat, hubby took me to one today and we got BBQ and strolled the walkways and just relaxed. It is amazing how everyone is in such a hurry in this town but areas like this are popping up everywhere and have long waiting lists for the housing.

Its time for dinner so I hope everyone is doing great.

hi all! I'm sorry I didn't get back sooner. I am doing WAY better. The swelling is nearly gone except fot the roof of my mouth. The pain is pretty much gone too. Some sore spots if I bump them wrong. I am having to try the fixodent powder as they are getting looser with the swelling going down. Still can't chew anything and that's hard! I feel hungry for everthing except pureed food, lol. I still hate the feel of the denture, espescially the roof of my mouth. And my bite seems all wrong. Not used to back teeth, and it bites my cheek. And the front don't touch my bottom. Don't know how I'll ever eat real food again. Other then that, things are good, so guess I will not complain. I sure have been thankful for all the advice and encouragement I got from here. Oh, and I was wondering if food tastes different or is it me? Nothing really tastes good. Anyway hello to all, and hope everyone is doing well. Casey! You go girl! Even if you put on a few pounds it has to be wonderful to eat again!!!! And Diana! Have a wonderful time camping! I am so envious! Relax and enjoy. And Dee, how are you doing? Best wishes to all! Betty, I think that food taste so much better now then at first. It taste the same as before my surgery. I too still catch my cheek with my back teeth if I bite down wrong so its not just you. If the powder is not enough for you because of the shrinkage try one of the gel glues. They seemed to work better for me when the dentures where really loose. If you start to get sore spots call your dentist and let him know, they can adjust your dentures with a little sanding in that area, or do some lasering if they are bone spurs to stop that pain. If your bite is off that much you should really make an appointment to see the dentist. An off bite can cause you to start having headaches and can also set off a whole different set of mouth problems with your jaw.

Chatty and Diana, I hope that your vacations are wonderful. I leave Sept. 2 for SC again. I will be home on the 6th.

Dee, miss you. Hope all is well with you.

Hi Casey, I am going to the dentist today! Haven't seen him since I had the teeth out Thursday. I think I am healing OK. Been using the salt water, plus some tea tree oil. And yes! I plan to talk to him about my bite. And yeah, I bought a couple different glues to help. I am still so raw that I can only use a little on the roof. No sore spots yet other then where some of the extraction sites are. And I am trying to stay positive about food. lol. If nothing else it's one heck of a weight loss plan. It sure is hard to see all the TV commercials, or smell food I can't eat, like the pizza my kids had last night. But I know this will get better! Anyway best to all, Hope everyone is well! Betty

Hi Casey! Wow, that has to be a blow. I am 49, and have lost two brothers, and a sister all in thier 50s. I have one brother (who has cancer) and one sister who is not doing well, and then it will be just me. It's hard to imagine I know... It's hard to let them go sometimes. I hope you are doing OK. What are they planning on doing on your upper jaw? More of what they did on the bottom? You must be one tough lady! The dentist told me he had to take a bunch of bone out in the top front where my eye teeth were. He said he was glad to see it hadn't caved in as much as he thought it would.... I didn't want to know more then that! Guess that's why it hurt so bad in the beginning. Today was a not so good day... I just have no desire to eat, and food was such a pleasure before. And I still hate the feel of it in my mouth. Mainly the roof. But I will tough it out, lol. Anyway, let us know how you are, and when they are planning it. Best to all, Betty

Traci, trust me I am a big baby. Ask my hubby.
I am not going to lie to you, it is rough the first week. If you are having sedation it is much easier in my opinion, you go and and come home and remember nothing. This is what I do for every major procedure. I dont do pain. When you do wake up try and sip down some soup broth or warm jello before you take any new pain meds. The last thing in the world you are going to want is to get sick just after dental surgery. Been there, done that, oh lordy be you dont want to follow. Make sure that all of the dentists instructions are written down, you aren't going to remember anything that you are told the day of surgery.

Hey everyone, hope all is well.

Hey Everyone
Casey I am so sorry to hear about your loss, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I finally had to go down 2 weekends ago to clean out the rest of my grandmother's house they had sold it,
I am going to have to admitt that I am going to have to do something about my mouth, my gums are so sore and swollen so I am going to try my teeth again.
I was suppose to go and get my reline in Aug but the dentist never called to talk to me about it. Plus I have been busy with work and my son has to have surgery on his arm . But I have to do something I am thinking about getting a new dentist and I am going to try the powder. So Iam going to have to start all over. Well I am going to go I am seeing double take care everyone.

Well things are starting to some what settle down around here. I was quite a mess for a few days, still having a hard time accepting that I am the only person outside of my children from my parents bloodline that is still living.
Today is my 41st birthday and everyone forgot including me. It wasn't until about 15 minutes ago when I was looking at the calendar.

My mouth and jaw are doing better. I still only take out the bottoms for cleaning them, my gums and implant areas, then right back in they go. My tops are doing okay, they are getting much looser and the powder glue is beginning to loose its effects within a couple hours. I am not suppose to use the gel glues yet. I cant be sure they wont get into the still open areas on the sides of my gums where the bone was removed. Most of the surgical pain is gone. The worse spot is from where they harvest some of my own bone and gum tissue for another site. I go back to the dentist on Wednesday to have a new soft reline done on both uppers and bottoms.

Hubby and I are leaving on Friday for a short vacation. Its the second trip for me in the past few months, but the first time both me and DH will be leaving the kids alone for more then 5 hours. We are really excited but terrified at the same time. My youngest is staying with friends while we are gone, but the two teens will be here. So everyone say a prayer for my house at night please.

Well its late and tomorrow is the first day of middle school for my youngest so I better get my own butt in bed.
I hope you all are doing great.
Susie it was so good to see your update, I hope that if you decide to find a new dentist that he will find a solution to your problems. Having sore gums and not being able to eat correctly is really starting to takes its tole on me too. I hope everything works out great for your son and his arm.

Oh wow! Happy birthday Casey! I was wondering how you were doing! Glad to hear you are doing a little better. And you are so right about the not eating well taking it's toll..... I am 10 days from my surgery, and the few calories I can make myself eat is not enough to make me feel like I have any energy. I just have no desire to eat. The denture is getting loose for me too, but still to soon to use the gel glue for me too. Powder helps but not enough. Not a lot of pain, except where they took out some bone, and a back one that seems to be rubbing or something. Plus I am biting the cheek so much it is killing me... I go back to the dentist tomorrow, and hope he can adjust it again.... I dread when I need to eat. I can't really taste the food, and still can't seem to make my brain try to chew anything, so still doing soft things I can make slide down my throat. And I still can't stand the feel of the fake roof my mouth... Sometimes my brain just screams take it out! But I am not comfortable with it out either.... I've been pretty depressed about all of it. And so tired. Maybe I am just expecting too much to soon. The dentist did say dentures take a lot of patience. Last night, I just cried and cried. Anyway, I am sorry to whine, but thanks for letting me vent. I know you have all been thru this, and have made it ok, and I will too. Casey I hope you have wonderful day, and mini vacation! lol, I WILL say a prayer about teens home alone! I know exactly how you feel!!!! Susie, I really hope you find a new and wonderful dentist!!!! Don't wait! Life is short, and we are supposed to enjoy it! And hello to all, Take care. Betty

CARAT414
08-29-2005, 05:23 PM
I soft reline is now your bestest friend. It is a clear gel that goes in the denture piece, then you bite down for about 2-3 minutes, they take it out clean it up some and this is when you tell them if it rubs to low in the cheek or goes to far back in the mouth. After you get them back in your mouth bite down again, not a full jaw wrenching clench but hard for as long as you can handle it. It will help insure they are a tight fit. I love it when I walk out with a new soft reline. My gums are all cushy again and nothing really hurts. This is the day to eat something that you kinda miss the most.
I am having a better day, off to the doctors. Non mouth related, thank gosh.
Casey
Hope everyone is having a beautiful day. And for those close to the hurricane or it effects my thoughts are with you.

What your experiencing is very normal. I know me and my step mom both went through a stage where we weren't happy with them. It's alot of ups and downs in the beginning but the most important thing is to stay positive k.
When ya r feeling low come on here we'll help you out k:) Don't give up. It's alot of change going on, in the first year you have the most change literally regarding your mouth but it'll slow down, the dentures will fit better when you get them relined and when you get your permanent ones they'll even be better.
I know me I thought I'd get dentures and it'd be fine......well nope it doesn't work that way you have to work at it being fine, once you become mentally ok with everything and start to accept fully the ups and downs, you won't even notice the downs:)
Just remember we're here for ya and stay positive:)

Hello everyone
A quick back up of events...since end of May whenI had all my teeth pulled I had an odd lump that would swell up & down and go mushy that wouldn't go away well.......So today I had a bone biopsy done.
Hosp day clinic were great got in early, they called me up and I got to go in earlier then expected, I rushed in and boom procedure done. It didn't hurt, I was awake and they also did some xrays before and after and guess what the outcome is you guys are gonna flip.....2 parts of a root left in my mouth that has infected so badly!!! How they found it was xray, my doc could see infection in xray and that was it...but the specialist today doing the biopsy seen it right away!!! He is now scheduling an appointment to get it surgically pulled out and make sure infection hasn't spread!
SO ya interesting day....it better get better!! LOL

Chatty,
Well I am glad that they now know what it is, but thats to bad that those roots were left in there. Boy your dentist better be really nice to you for a while. I too hope the infection is not to bad. Infections are bad news. At least with me.

Well I have a semi clean bill of health other then my reconstruction. They cant give me a complete sign off until I have been symptom and infection free for a year. But its the next best thing. No damage to any other areas.

Well time to get dinner going, hope all are doing well.

Thank you, thank you , thank you! I will now look forward to the soft reline, and chatty! How awful for you! That's just scary! I can't even imagine. Course after following all of Caseys woes, I am beyond what it could be like for me. So, I am putting my grateful heart back on. I know how it could be so much worse. I will pull myself back up, and get the good parts going in my brain. I did eat a little better today, and trying to practice using the teeth for chewing even though it was just baked potatoes! I thought I was more prepared, but just had a hard couple days. More mental then anything. I really feel pretty good other then tired. I think I pushed to hard to get back to normal life too soon. As women we tend to think the world will fall without us. Casey, I will say prayers on your reconstruction. I am assuming they will have to do more bone graphs (OUCH!) again. Just taking some out of mine was the worst part on pain, so can't imagine. Let us know when. You guys are the best, and I will be thinking of you all. Thanks!!!! Betty

Chatty,
I wanted to tell you that I had a similar experience. The dentist, when he pulled my wisdom tooth, left the root tips in and then packed it with bone graft. That was over a year ago and I had pain like you wouldn't believe (and still do). 5 dentists did not spot it. It got so infected (and still is) after removal of the bone graft and root tips. Dentist who did this abandoned me, made me sign a paper that I wouldn't sue him. I don't sue people but I just can't imagine anyone ignoring someone so much in pain. Would you let me know how they will remove it? Is it pulled out like a tooth or are they going to scrape and grind it out? Sounds like you are getting good care and I am sure you will feel better.
Sae

09-01-2005, 12:13 PM
Hi Sae
How are you. So here's the plan, they are going to open my gum up across the front so where our upper lip rests against. The root is in there sideways floating around so it shouldn't be difficult.....they hope!! lol
They have to drain the abcess around it, they said it's almost like a bubble formed literally around it and is extremely infected, but the bubble part he figures is whats holding the infection and it isnt travelling elsewhere in my mouth so far. If the bubble pops/bursts I am to get to Hospital asap....he didn't say why but I imagine it'd mean infection going throughout me.
So ya....very interesting. Not impressed, when I got my teeth pulled May 27th I thought this was it but obviously not, lol:)

I am here also.

I am doing relatively well. I go for another follow up again today. I feel I should be invited to the family reunions of the staff there as much as I see them.

Friday is almost here, I cant wait to leave on our mini vacation. I just need to get away for a few days to let my mind rest.

Kids have been back in school all week and it has been so peaceful in this house. I love my kids but my goodness I sure do love the first day of school, once the tears of sending them off to yet another higher grade are dried up.

Chatty, please be careful with that bubble infection. Do they have you on some antibiotics to help reduce the infection and hold it at bay if it does burst????
I had healthy teeth, went to the dentist every six months for a check up and cleaning, sometime sooner. Now I have no teeth and I see him every ten days. Go figure......

Hope all are doing well,
Casey

Hi Casey!!!!
Ya they have me on some antibiotic....but ummmmm I lost it last night or misplaced the bottle. Mr Chatty says he thinks when I had my cleaning fit last night I threw it out....so my stepdad is gonna hunt the garbage while I am out getting a new prescription LOL :) I need to make sure it's actually in the garbage so my mind can be at ease of Miss Chatty Junior not finding them!!! She's a pretty good kid but still!

So ya eventful morning already!!!! When do you go away....tomorrow...yay for you!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have fun. Let us know how trip goes!

Hi all! Wow, Sae! are you on any antibiotics for the infection? I sure hope you find someone soon to help you out!! Sounds like it could be dangerous. And so sorry Chatty! I sure hope I get lucky and just continue to heal... And Casey! I know what you mean about kids back in school. The mornings are so quiet and all mine to do as I want. Do you take the kids with on mini vacation? lol, I would love a weekend away from mine with my husband! Glad to hear you are doing OK. Have they said when on the next surgery? I am doing OK. Still can't chew, just won't seem to work in my brain. I even dreamed that I was chewing ham, lol. I think my gag reflex is getting worse instead of better as my gums shrink... Yuck. He can't do a soft reline yet because I am not healed enough. Guess I'm a slow healer, plus sadly I smoke and I know that hinders the healing. Anyway, best of luck and healing to you all! Casey have a fun and "restful" weekend! Betty

Kids on mini vacation, oh heck no!!! I would be to tempted to leave them in the hotel when I check out.

I also felt as though the more my gums shrank the more I gag, the guru (dentist) said that it is because the dentures are able to shift further back and that is what is causing it. You are going to be one happy camper when you get that soft reline. Have you tried the tree tea oil??? It might at least help speed up the healing a little bit since you do smoke. I use to smoke, did the accupressure thing and not a urge since.

Hope that you all have a great day.

Hi Casey! Wow! Accupressure?? That's really interesting! Never thought of it! Might have to look into it. My husband and I both SO need to quit. I am a light smoker, only in the evening when he gets home. Never during the day, and I have a harder time then him when we have tried to quit. Figures. And yeah I thought it was because the gums were shrinking, and figure he can't do much. I sure wish he could shorten it some. The gagging is why I don't want to eat. Hate to eat actually. I am starting to lose a little weight which is nice. Just a couple lbs. I am trying to keep some food in me, but it's a dreaded thing. I know I just need to have paitence. This devastation in New Orleans and the whole area sure has pulled me off my pity pot, I'll tell ya. I have NO reason to complain. Anyway, lol, SO glad you get to get away from the kids. I do remember now, your worry about leaving them. We (hubby and I) talked about a night away, and I'm nervous about leaving mine. They are 17, 16, and 11. Anyway, better get back at it. Have a great weekend! Betty

Wow, our kids are the same ages just about. My oldest just turned 18 two weeks ago, son turns 17 in the first week of Oct and the baby is now 11. I have contacted all the neighbors and turned them into spies for me. I have now managed to guarentee that someone is watching this home 24/7 the entire time we are gone. And I am not telling the kids.
Since yours are temps, try using an emery board on the very back. Just do tiny bits at a time. If you file off to much you will lose suction and they will not work well either. Good Luck, off to pack

Also remember when we are feeling they are to long in the back if you adjust them to much like Carat says the suction will be compromised but also remember they are just like that cause they don't fit well and sliding so demand a reline or temp reline and tell them you aren't settling for No:)
My denture guy as soon as I say they feel like they are sliding down my throat he knows I need a temp reline cause they aren't sitting right:)

Good luck to all! It's a long weekend here, daughter starts preschool on Wednesday so I have alot to do and am so scared for her!!!!!! Thats another issue though:)

Take care

Thanks to both of you!!! I go in next week and hopefully he wiil think about the reline. I still have pretty big holes, and he's wanting them to close up some more. Wish me luck! And best to all! Betty

09-02-2005, 05:57 PM
Well if you have big holes you should wait to do any adjusting, my guy wouldn't do a temp liner unil they were like real close to being closed, it can compromise healing.
I will tell you one thing, in the beginning like for me the first month to 5-6 weeks was the hardest adjusting to healing and fit. We blaim the fit/teeth but it's our healing.
Do you have to pay for your reline, if he does a permanent reline and it's costly I'd wait and try to use glue/adhesive cause literally as my denturist said if he would of done a temp reline so quick no way it'd be worth my money, I still don't have a permanent reline yet and I am 3 months post-op because my mouth is still changing/healing.
My fisrt temporary reline was 2 months post op and it's a god send and before he did it, yes chewing was easier without them but I am thankful he didnt let me spend money on something that'd work for a day maybe 3 at most then not fit cause I was shrinking.
I know alot of rambling, I'm not trying to be a bummer. But one thing I wish I would of realised earlier is they arent gonna fit perfect until our mouth slows down so we have what they gave us either make em work or have nothing so I chose adjusting to however they fit,lol and since becoming ok with them not fitting at times, mentally I am alot better or ok with my dentures.
I will say my last temp reline was August 19th and its still fitting ok but for all i know tomorrow they could be to big but they really arent it's just our mouth is smaller.

Please know you're doing good! it's a big adjustment and you know we're always here to help. So for now just tell yourself, it's just for now, this too shall pass , it will get better, baby steps:)

Take care;)

Thanks so much Robin! I have really learned a lot on here. And yeah I have come to realize this is a slow process. I am learning to be patient! I have a great dentist, and he's not charging me for the soft relines. And he wants to wait 6 months to a year before I get a permanent reline. That will cost me a couple hundred after insurance. At least I have lost a little weight since eating is not the pleasure it was. I eat enough to keep my health up, but I no longer eat just for pleasure. I doubt I will get to have the soft reline for a few weeks yet. I am healing a little slow. But I will get there, and the encouragement I get on here makes a big difference. I didn't know when I went into the process of getting dentures how big a change it was going to be. At least we know whats ahead when my husband has to do his. And another few years, and I will have to do bottoms. But he said since they were OK for now, it would be eaiser on me (and my pocketbook) to start with the uppers. Thank God he did! Can't imagine adjusting to both. Anyway, thanks for all the info!!!! betty

Hiya everybody!

It's been awhile since I've checked in ... here's what's happening with me:

The reline in the office didn't work, so I was using powder for awhile, and I was able to eat ok ... pretty good as a matter of fact, but I did have to use the powder everytime and change them once a day when they became loose.

I just got a lab reline, I guess it was a hard reline, cause it's HARD and it hurts! It was really tight first day, she did take a bit off and it doesn't hurt to go in now, but still hurts a bit on top .. will go back this coming week.

Thing is: it was much more comfortable to eat before this reline ... why?

Is this considered a hard reline ... a lab reline .. they had to send it out for the day?

It hurts really bad to chew .. it feels like I still have a cavity .. or nerve under the dentures ... strange.

It's very hard to eat now ... uncomfortable and my teeth don't seem to be coming together. She said they were when she looked at them yesterday, but it sure doesn't feel like it.

I'm 6 weeks post-op, why does it hurt to chew still? Shouldn't I be healed pretty good by now, or at least beyond the hurtin stage to chew?

She said I was pushing myself too much ... that if I had surgery on my leg, I wouldn't be expecting to run a mile yet.

I think it really bugs me because I only have bottom teeth on one side, so I can only chew on one side, and that's the side that hurts so much to chew on. Also it feels really weird when I put my teeth together. "Sigh"

Will this get better? Am I rushin it too much ya think?

Is there ANYTHING to put on the dentures to cushion my gums without adhesive? Heck, even WITH adhesive ... this HURTS!

What exactly is a soft reline, and why didn't I ever get one?

Sorry for so many questions .. gosh I thought I'd be done asking them by now. LOL ...

Hugs,
Dee

"I'm 6 weeks post-op, why does it hurt to chew still? Shouldn't I be healed pretty good by now, or at least beyond the hurtin stage to chew?"

I'm 2 days away from 8 weeks and some things still are hard for me to chew. I can do it, it's just not pleasant. Like today. I had one of those "Select" chicken sandwiches from McDonald's. It was not easy to eat, but I ate it. Didn't taste very good either. It will take time. Maybe you still have some bone spurs working their way out. I had a couple and it was very painful until they were gone.

Did you know that just cause it's appearing your outer gums are healed the inside where bone is can take up to one year to fully fuse itself together. I'm 12 weeks post op and I still have issues and still have open gums but please know everyday it will get better.....promise!!!!!!
:)
Take care....i love your name by the way!! :)

Hi Dee, yes it will get better:) Positive thoughts, ask denturist why no soft reline see what they say?

Everyone take care!

Hello everyone. I just got back yesterday, spent the afternoon doing laundry and cleaning things. Found out that our cat was trapped in my daughters bed room over the weekend!!! Luckly she only pp'd on some towels my daughter had in her room...good kitty! Pour thing was tramatized though. Checking emails this morning, had to go back to page 27 to get the jist of whats been going on while I was away.

Casey, so sorry to hear of your brothers passing. Wow about forgetting your own birthday. Those years just sneek up on you after 40 don't they.

Chatty I hope all goes well for you...Infection! What an awful thing to have happen! Congrats on the new baby news!

Betty, I'm a smoker too...bad me I know... The tea tree rinses does help that though, alone with those salt water ones...my dentist said to use really warm water with the rinses. I had my teeth pulled out on a wednesday, that next saturday I had a new reline coz he new it wasn't sitting right with the first one and was worried it would hurt my jaw coz it was open too much. Then my next reline was in two weeks....So I don't get why they tell you that you 'have' to wait if things are not sitting right. Hmmm every dentist is different....I had mine done last Oct. 27th and have never had what is called a permanant reline, only soft ones. My dentures cracked in the back on one side, he said as they heal the gums expand and get flatter and that is what cracked it. That was the side that I had some remaining teeth to be pulled, the other side didn't have any to pull. Well the repair job I had done just prior to going on my camping trip lasted about 10days, it cracked slightly again. I bought some krazy glue, dried it really good, used a blow drier on it, then glued it. Then put extra fixident powder in than I usually use. I worked for a couple days, as I stayed away from chewing on that side. I repaired it again last night, it's holding so far, but will have to let the dentist know that the repair wasn't done wide enough. When they repaired it (a guy named Steve does this and cooks it on low overnight) didn't give it enough width. I told the dentist it needed to be wider, but it wasn't enough I guess. Bummer, it costs to have an overnight repair done. :(

Now I'm on page 36 and it say's there is a problem with there data base? Can't pull up page 36 right now, good thing I'm typing this on my notepad so I can save what I've typed! There, now it is working again..

I had a great relaxing camping trip, lots to get done today, many arrands and my daughter has a volley ball game tonight about an hour and a half from home, so back on the road again for me. And I hate to travel. lol. Were all doing the ride share thing with the price of gas these days. I would much rather pay that then have no house like the people down south. How awful for everyone affected by Katrina. Prayers going out there.

Off to do the running. Diana

i just wanna add to the thread here, since this is also a related to denture problems.i use to post here about having a bad smelling odor in my mouth bought about by my denture.i tried diff stuffs like soaking it in vinegar.one simple solution to avoid such problem is using denture brush and cleaners (i.e. polident dentu-creme) coz it definitely works well with me.

Hi all! Diana! glad to hear you had a good trip! And yeah I will keep up the te tree oil. I am doing a little better. And actually the denture I have is a immediate. I will have it permantly, and then in 6 mths to a year, they will do a complete realignment. And not sure about waiting on the soft reline. He said with the holes I still have it would just poke in them or something, and I needed to shrink a little more. Anyway, I am trying to be paitent. Still can't really chew. Feels very weird to try, plus the spot in the front where my eye tooth was, he took a bunch of bone out, and it is still really sore if I chew much. I have been wondering about all the different opinions on having your dentures out for a certain period every day?? I asked my dentist, and he said that a lot of people went back and forth on this. He said take mine out two hours a day if I'm able. But I don't get what happens if you don't? I am confused, lol. Anyway, hope all is well. And congrats Chatty! Good for you! And yes, so very sad about all the hurricane victums... Thoughts and prayers are with them. Best to all, Betty

Betluu:
Your tissues breathe and heal better without something covering them up all the time. If I am just at home hanging out, no one coming over, I don't wear them, I don't sleep with them in either, I could but it does compromise the healing ability. Also alot of people think they are just waiting for the gums to close but it's also your jaw has to grow/fuse back together where there is empty spots from your missing/pulled teeth:)

Don't worry you're doing great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had so many questions and freak out episodes in the beginning so it's normal:) But if I was you, leave them out as much as you can and it will help healing, I know from experience others may disagree but we all have our way of doing things:) lol

Ok take care Betty, stay positive & thanks for the congrats!!!!!

Betty, Robin may have something there. Try doing your 'gentle' swish with very warm salt water...a teaspoon per cup. Give your mouth a rest with your teeth out for a while after that...an hour or so...don't rinse though. Then do a 'gentle swish with the tea tree oil and I'ld use warm water there too. Let that rest without rinsing for as long as you can, but don't swallow your spit with the tea tree rinse. You may have to occasionally emtpy your saliva into a sink or cup or something while waiting to rinse that out. When they have to go in and dig out bone it is tramatizing to say the least! And it takes a while longer to heal. This wisdom tooth I had pulled in Jan. of this year is just about closed, they had to dig into the bone for that and I don't have anything that covers that spot. So be good to yourself and patiently pamper yourself for a while, it's ok to do that your know. :) Make a quilt or something to mark this time. You sound like you sew, maybe do some embroidery(spelling?) Just pencil sketch in the design with a colored pencil that will wash out eventually. Just a thought to keep your mind and hands busy while recovering. The next thing you know, time has passed and your doing better. I took some homeopathic stuff when I had my teeth done, it must of done something coz I didn't get most of the problems that I read on here. I took 'Arnica montana' especially at night, it helps circulation, pain and helps you sleep deeper without making you tired, it can be taken during the day too. I also took 'Hypernicum' this was for nerve pains. Maybe I didn't have a big difference but I didn't notice all the pains that most have written about so it must of done something. Might want to check out some health food places and see if it's available where you live. It's pretty inexpensive to buy. Getting good rest is very healing for the bones. You've been through a lot of stress, before, during and after the procedure. Stress does a lot of funny things to our bodies and effects everyone differently, especially if your trying to heal up. Everyone here is so great I think. Isn't it nice to have so many concerned and caring people are here for everyone. What a great support it is when things get tough to know you can say whatever you need to without being worried that what you say will be taken in the wrong way, but that your concerns and thoughts will be supported, and encourgement is on the way. Take good care of yourself, find something relaxing that you enjoy, take this time to pamper yourself a bit.

Take care, Diana

Hi everyone, I am back.

Welcome home Diana. I hope that your trip was as wonderful as mine. The only bad part was having to fly home. I hate flying, and to come back to a place I really don't want to be is really hard. But hopefully it will only be for a another year and I can be where I am happy.

While I was in SC I went to see the oral surgeon that my dentist is having me transfer to when I move. He said that he is quite impressed with the results of the surgeries and my recovery. He said that in his honest medical opinion I am a very blessed person to have such a wonderful team of talented doctors caring for me, and at the rate of my recovery I should only need to see him for preventative care every six months or so.

I think I am going to call and remove myself from medical leave and go back to work. I am feeling really good physically, although I will have to take time off again for the surgery on the top, I think going back to work will help get my life settled again. It has been in such turmoil for almost 2 years.

Chatty, I am so happy for you, you will be a great mom for two now.

Betty, try not to worry so much. Millions of people are walking around with dentures and if they dont tell, nobody would be the wiser. It just takes time. I still have days that I wonder if I will ever be able to eat some of my favorite foods again, or go through the day without feeling some sort of pain.

Dee, I hope you are doing well.

Susan, my daughter has a nasty chest cold. She believes it is from the air conditioners at school. Her biggest complaint is that she is sweaty and uncomfortable and the temps here still reaching into the hundreds makes it so much worse then being sick in the winter. Hope you feel better real soon

Talk to you all soon,
Casey

Hi all! Thanks so much for the kind words, good advice, and the encouragement! It is great to have somewhere that you can talk about all this. Chatty, I am going to leave my teeth out more often now. I sleep with them in, as I haven't let my husband see me without, and hope I don't have to. It's hard enough getting old, lol. And Casey so glad you had a great vacation! Did the kids do well, I take it? And great that you feel good enough to think about work! Any idea on when they plan the next surgery? And Diana, I am taking your advice about staying busy! I do stained glass, and have a small shop in my garage, so I am getting back out there and working! I am going to be paitent and know that it will eventually feel normal again. I have to admit the whole thing was way more stressful and hard then I thought it would be. But I finally know now it will get better. All of you give me hope! Oh, also I am going to try and find the stuff you mentioned Diana! I am all for any homopathic remedies! Firm believer! Thanks! now I am going to make myself busy! Thanks to all, and have a great day, Betty

Betty, A few words about this remedy, never open homeopathics in sunlight, keep bottles away for strong odors, nothing by mouth a half hour before taking it, and don't take anything strong tasting for a half hour after either. Water is fine if thirsty though. Never pour the pellets into your hand, use the cap to shake out what is needed, once a pellet has contact with your skin, it is contaminated, so never put it back in the bottle, it will contaminate the rest of them. Homeopathic remedy works with your saliva, when taking any remedy always roll it around in your mouth and under your tounge. This is a general rull of thumb for taking any homeopathic remedy. Store in a cool dry dark place away from stong orders of any kind. It will last a long time this way. You can take the dose recommended on the bottle. I wasn't sure if you knew any of this information I just wanted to make sure you did.

I just love stained glass. I bet you make beautiful things!

I hear you on not wanting hubby to see you without your teeth too. I'm the same way, got over that when I had to leave them overnight to be repaired. Not fun! Better go, we have a huge thunderstorm going on right now. Diana

Diana, Wow! I did not know all that about homopathic! Thanks for the heads up! I am going to look for it today while I'm out. And yeah, I am dreading when they do my permanant relign on my teeth! I am afraid they are gonna tell me I iwill have to be without... I just dread having my husband see me that way. He's a good man, and will not mind, but it has to be awful. And I'm not a vain person! At least that won't happen for several months yet. Maybe they can do it while he's a work, lol. And I LOVE doing stained glass. My favorite thing to make is Angels. There are some beautiful patterns for them out there. Anyway, have a great day, and hope the storm blows over! Betty

Just wanted to say hi to everyone.

I never thought I was vain until my surgery. I didn't leave the house without my teeth for a couple of months unless it was to go to the dentist. I still wont leave unless I have my teeth, and I wont allow anyone over without them in.
Hubby and kids got use to seeing me without them so its easier but I still find myself placing my hand in front of my mouth to laugh when I have them out.

Hope all are well

Hey, Chatty, I'm here!! lol...I'm still holding together the broken pieces of my temp. partial denture...hmmm. I sure don't want to drive an hour both ways and pay another 50bucks, leave it overnight and drive another hour both ways to go and get it the next day again! Dern thing broke about 10 days after getting it fixed the last time. I think it should of been a little wider when it got fixed (spread apart and bonded), I think it was, but not wide enough. My dentist has a guy that comes in and does the overnight bonding and fixing, that is who did it this last time, I'm usually not charged anything if the dentist does it while I wait, he wanted it bonded really good this last time and it didn't hold near as long as when he does it quickly in his office.
I hope your root removal goes well...Not fun! But it should make a difference for you. Let us know how it's going. I'm sure everyone just hasn't had the time to write, but they are probably reading the posts.
We've been busy here with school events and stuff. It's starting to get a bit chilly here. Going on a road trip for my daughters Volleyball game this weekend, will stop at our campsite and winterize the camper on the way back. :( I wish we would of had all summer to be there, too bad we bought it so late in the season. I miss the bed, it's so compfy, bought two memory foam mattress pads for the top, I sleep better in that bed than the one here at home. I'm thinking of getting a couple for our bed here at home, but, it's a king size one, cha ching!!! Gonna cost some big bucks for that size. The cheapest one I've found is at walmart so far. I told the hubby we should start out with two and add one every year till we have it about 6'' thick, I think they are 1 1/2 '' thick each, to the tune of 129.00 each. Yeowch! Christmas is coming, maybe I should ask santa for that? lol I'm getting sick of tossing and turning all night to find some comfort, right now we have a blowup mattress on our bed, I just put a little more air in it as needed, been sleeping on these and buying new when they start to lose air. Been doing this for the last 4yrs or so, now since having that camper bed I've noticed how much better a real mattress is!!!!!
Have to take daughter to school today, her truck stalled on her yesterday. This happened to her last week too, had the air intake fixed and a battery connector. We think it was bad gasoline this time, the mechanic said everything checked out ok, he thinks it was watery gas too. Gonna throw some fuel injector fluid in it, have the oil changed and put some decent gas in there, hopefully she'll have wheels again, it's nice when she can drive herself!
Sons girlfriend is coming over today to help do some baking for daughter's Volleyball fundraiser coming up on Thurs. night, it was awfully nice of her to offer to help on her day off! I just about fell over when she offered, I just didn't expect it is all. I guess she likes to bake stuff. Good, good, good!!!!!
Better run, I just wanted to let you know someone IS out here. lol

Hi all! I'm here. been trying to read these, but don't get much time to reply. Going Ok here. I think I'm actually getting used to these things (dentures) some. Still don't chew well, but I am adjusting to having them in my mouth, and thats a start. Diana, I'm so sorry you will have to go thru all the driving and being without the teeth! I would hate that! I was going in to let the dentist do minor adjustments on my teeth to keep the bite right, but found out he is charging 40$ a pop, so think I will wait till I have LOTS of shrinking, and then get one and the soft reline. Haven't a clue what he will charge for that.... I still have swelling and soreness where he took out that bone in the front, so just gonna give it more time. And Chatty! yuck on root removal! Why is that? What does it mean, like a root canal? I have to say, one good thing about dentures is (knock on wood) I will have no more problems with teeth up there. Guess that's a good thing. Anyway, have to run. Glad to hear from you all, and have a great day. Betty

Hi there, Yes! I have to use the adhesive. It's what has helped my gagging to improve. I don't use as much as I want in the front because still sore there, and still have the open holes. Can't wait till I heal more so I can use it in the front. I think that will help me chew. Betty

Hi all, just wanted to check in.

Chatty, I am with you in spirit for your root removal. That way you can be with me later today for my surgery. I am beginning to feel like a piece of meat at the butcher shop. The team just starts talking about cutting here and cutting there, I had to get up and walk out on Monday because it made me sick to my stomach. I think they forget I am there or something. I am having bone bone graphing done on the top right and they are hoping to place three of the top clamps in so they have time to attach before I have the rod placed in on the 17th of Oct.

Betty I am so glad that you are feeling more comfortable with your dentures. I know I do too. I just hate that as soon as I start getting to the good eats part they want to go back in and open me up again. Great idea on waiting as long as possible before you have the soft reline done. Remember to continue to put pressure on it for a while even after you leave the office.

Diana, you sure are the busy little bug. Hubby and I bought a sleep member bed about 2 years ago. I was so amazed at how uncomfortable my bed was before. This one is like floating on a cloud. The best part is I can have my side soft and hubby can turn his up and have it a little bit more firm. My back and neck haven't hurt once from sleeping wrong since we got it. It was pricy but I figure that the amount of time I was taking off from work because of how stiff I was paid for it pretty quickly.
I know where you are coming from with having your daughter drive. I have gotten so spoiled with her having her own vehicle, and not having to taxi her, my son is buying his car at the end of this month so that is another thing off my list of demands. At this rate I should have the live of leisure I want by the time I am 80. Just Kidding.

Dee and Susan, I hope all is well with you both.

Gosh Casey, that's just awful. Do they know how you feel? I can't imagine. You will definitly be in my thoughts and prayers. Is this hopefully be the last surgery? (the one on the 17th) You must be a very strong woman! And I will remember about the soft reline! Plenty of pressure.
Chatty, hope all is well with the root removel! Is it all over?
Diana, a new bed changed my nights! We got a serta pillow top, and it is heaven! Like Casey said a mattress can be pricy, but oh so worth it!
Anyway, better get busy, best wishes to all! Take care, Betty
ps, I think I am actually getting used to the fake roof in my mouth. lol, I even forgot and tried to floss the top the other morning!

Hi all

So yep they took it out, drained infection and sent me home and ended up back in Hosp for a bit do to a fever of 103 so ya it was scary for a minute!
What happened for who doesnt know, when I had all my teeth removed in May the oral surgeon left a root from one of my teeth in my mouth and it hurt I sooo new something was wrong! So at least they found it, the hospital has launched a law suit on my behalf supposedly I have no choice in this and that bugs me...I am not one to sue someone but whatever a whole nother issue.
My reline from mid August is still fitting ok so my gums must have settled down some. Now cause of being swollen I can't get my upper in but oh well this will pass.
Otherwise I am ok I go for another check up.....I was awake when they did it with just freezing cause me pregos so they didn't want to knock me out, it wasn't bad really but pain doesn't bug me too much thank gosh:)

Ok I'll stop rambling and talk to everyone soon. I am trying to locate some volunteers for this Cancer walk thingy we are doing fun fun:) My sis's 5 year remission date is coming up and ya we are so thankful, lucky, exstatic!!!! DOn't know the best word to describe how we feel:)

Ok bye for now.
Thanks for all the kind words, Betty, DIana & Casey:)
How is everyone else though where did everyone go...I wonder how carol is?

I'm going to count my blessing that all I have right now is a cracked plate...yes, the same ole one that keeps on cracking. Finally called the dentist office and left a voice mail for my dentist. The nurse called back and said both the dentist and the plate maker guy are going to be there for this one...I don't know if that means they are going to try and fix this one or get me ready for my permanant one??? I told the dentist that my insurance has been used up for this year, but if he wants to make the plate and charge me for it in Jan. that was fine and dandy with me! Wonder if that is possible. That would also give me a few months of saving up or paying ahead before I get a Jan. bill. Wish I could of talked directly to him when they called back.
Today I was just about ready to go out the door, (had arrands to do then I was suppose to be at a church to help set up for a speghetti (sp?) feed for our volley ball fundraiser)when I noticed my sons little springer spaniel dog had a problem with his eye...called my son and told him to meet me at the vets office, the vet took out a sticker that looks like its a porcipine quill out of what they call a third eye lid on a dog, it's the pink one that comes up from the bottom part of the eye, if you know what I mean. Confusing I know. But anyway this thing was stuck under neath that. Now the dog has to have a gel put on there 3 to 4 times a day, we are leaving tomorrow night(fri) for the camper (which is 2 1/2 hrs away) and then going even further south another 2 1/2 hrs on sat. morn. then driving back to the camper that night and not coming back till Sun. night. My son is in a wedding this weekend, and we have company staying here while we are gone...lol...Yeah. Poor little puppy though. Someone will put the med. on his eye. He sits pretty good for just about anyone. We watch him alot since out here he can run outside and play with our dog, otherwise he ends up spending so much time locked up in my sons house. My son is in college and he works too. Poor puppy, I just feel so sorry for him, he has way too much energy to left alone that long. Well that is how my day is going. Finally done with the dinner at the church, kind of nice to get there early and leave early too.
Betty, I'm glad your getting used to your new teeth...kinda funny, I tried flossing mine once too....lol
Chatty and Casey, take care, get well soon.
Ta Ta for now. Diana

Puppy's eye looks much better this morning. Thank goodness.

Just a bit ago there was this awful, loud, screeching noise outside...it went on and on. Puppy sure wanted to go out and see what it was, but no way was I letting him out! Then it finally got quiet....about two minutes later a really stong smell of skunk has invaded my house....oh, yuck! Must of been either a hawk or an owl that tried to pick up a skunk. It is still pretty dark out right now. Peeeee Ewwww!!!!

New subject...I left my upper plate out last night, seems that if it is cracked (like it is right now, although I glued it) it doesn't stay glued in very well, and I seem to get a sore mouth from it. I get bumps on the roof of my mouth and sore on the side that has the crack in it. I suppose if it isn't anchored good it moves around when talking or eating. I seem to clench my jaw more too....sigh....soon hopefully I'll get it fixed up good.

How's everyone doing? I leave at about 6pm tonight and won't be back till Sun. late.

Bye for now, Diana

Thank gosh puppy's eye is looking better! :)
We have a skunk who walks by every night and sprays all over our boat lol, I want to catch him but we all know not a good idea.

Are you gonna get your denture fixed? Or a new one? I can't wait to get my permanent ones but thats not for a while:)

Well you have a great trip, drive safe & hope you have great weather!!:)

Diana hope you have a wonderful trip and I am sure puppy has learned his lesson at least for the rest of this month. LOL My dogs never seem to get the clue of what to leave alone.

Chatty, glad to hear you finally got that root out. Has the pressure gone down yet??? Hope that you and baby are doing great.

Surgery went great, I only have a couple of sore spots that are really tender. Not allowed to put the top dentures is until Monday. So all my food is really soft again.
Betty I still have about 10-15 more surgeries ahead of me. Some are pretty extensive but not all of them. I am not really all that strong of a person, I just really don't have a choice if I want to eat and look halfway normal again.

Skunks???? Yuck!!!! Good point to city living.

Hi Robin,

I had more bone graphings done on the top in 8 spots. In the big picture they are hoping that these areas will be the sites for the implants when that time comes. I also had two of current bottom implants shortened. The gum tissue has shrank down so much that they were much to tall and I would have had to much of a gap between the denture piece and my gumline.
Hopefully only a couple more of these surgeries until I have the rod and clamps put in.
How are you doing??? I am going to Pennsylvania for a few days next week to handle some things for my brothers estate. Then other then spreading his ashes this February I am done with the formalities.

So how is married life??? Not much different then before is it. Tell Kyla Hi.

Hope all is well with everyone, oh for all of you who know my friend Carol, she is fine, just a bit overwhelmed with her parents and their health issues. She said thanks for thinking of her and she will be back soon.

Got home yesterday and we winterized the camper pretty much, took out everything that couldn't be put in the little fridge. The weather was great but didn't spend that much time there, the Volleyball invitational took all day long, left from the campsite at 6am and didn't get back to it till after 10pm! What a long day. We took 2nd, there were 8teams. They played really well till the very last game, must of run out of energy. I'll have great gobs of laundry to do today. It's rainy here today, but feels really fresh outside, it's just a sprinkle.

I don't know what the dentist has planned this friday. Not sure if it's the permanant denture or fixing this temp. one. I've been catching my tounge on the cracked part and it's hard to chew anything. At least I don't have any bone graphs or infections like some of you have. I'm grateful for that!

Chatty, get some rest when you can.
Betty, glad your getting adjusted to your plate.
Casey, you sure have a long road, good to hear this last appointment went well for you.

Take care everyone. Diana

Hi Em, I have to say you can get a lot of support on here. I had my top teeth out 5 weeks ago with a immediate put in. it was a rough go for a while, and this board (espescially this Thread) was a great help. They got me thru the worst days. Are you having your teeth pulled the same day? And are you doing tops and bottoms? I am starting to adjust to mine, and even eating more stuff. It's not easy, but you can get past it. And I went thru some gagging, but the adhesive really helped with that! I wish you the best on the this.
Nesseds, I am using the super poligrip too. It's great! Yuck to clean off. I use the fixodent powder at night because I don't need as much hold, and it's easier to clean off. I am still in the shrinking stage, so they don't fit as good as I would like.
Hi Diana, and glad you are getting that denture fixed! Yuck on catching your tounge! Ow!
Casey, so glad to hear the last went OK. Do they put you out for these surgeries I hope. Having that many has to be SO hard! Still in my prayers!
And hi to all the rest! I am doing pretty good. Still holding off on the soft reline till I shrink a little more. But the poligrip is a big help. And have mentally adjusted to trying to chew. And I think I have adjusted to the fact this is my mouth now, and can move on. lol, Take care all! Betty

Hi all, update, I woke up this morning with the entire left side of my face swollen. I called the dentist office and was told to come straight in. I have an infection in the bottom left side of the jaw. So far its not connected to the osteo and it hasn't spread to the area of the implants thank goodness, but I can't wear my bottom denture at all, it doesn't even fit. What I cant figure out is how I managed to get an infection with the amount of antibiotics I am on and have been on for almost 5 months. This will probably shove my Oct 17th surgery further away. But I am hoping not.

EmGoy, I am also a gagger although it has gotten better over time. I just take small bites when eating, and I can't drink anything with food in my mouth. Other then that I am doing really well. It just takes time.

Hope all are well,
Casey

Hi Em, Thank goodness it's only the top. From what I have learned the bottoms are much harder to adjust too. And I worried about the gagging too, but it wasn't as bad as I had worried myself over. And now if I keep the adhesive on, so it's tight back there, I don't have a problem. Some people don't have a problem at all. Hang in there, and keep checking in on here. It really helped me a bunch! Very supportive bunch! And if it's the 29th, I bet the last week is hard. It was for me. And after the surgery, I was really upset at what I had done, but after a couple weeks, it got better, and now I'm glad I went thru with it. I had gum disease, so had no choice. I love my new teeth too! Betty

My little bro got booted out (huge misunderstanding) and he's here with us so ya eventful!! But you guys know my motto is.......it always could be worse:) lol Right!

So on the 27th I go for another tissue conditioner, so that would be 3 in total since July 25th:( 300.00!!!!!!!! 100.00 each time:( but remember it could be worse and it's worth it if it helps me not stress over the fact they don't fit!! lol

Ok I gotta go, my head hurts trying to look at comp screen lol:)

So Hello everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Em, try not to worry, it is rough at first but it gets better. The gagging thing is really not as bad as it sounds for most. My dentist says 95% of the people gag for the first few days, but once they get use to having something there they forget about it. Of course I am in that 5% when I drink while eating or take to big a bite. Otherwise I really dont notice it.

Betty, I am so glad that you seem to be doing so much better. Yes, they have to put me out for each surgery and my head is braced in position to insure that I dont move at all. I dont think I could do it if I wasn't completely out.

Chatty, Preggers and sick??? OH Yuck for you. I sure hope that you are feeling better really soon. Same for Kyla. How on earth did she get so sick??? New preschool???

Well the swelling has gone down and I can wear the denture again. I have quite a few sores though from before I could take the denture out. I am using the tree tea oil and salt rinses, hopefully they will go away quickly. I leave for PA tomorrow evening for a week so I hope that everyone does okay, and EM dont stress.

Talk to you all when I get back

Em, Hello, just wanted to know, how bad is your gag reflex. I ask because I have a girlfriend that can hard even brush her teeth! She just got a partial this summer and is having trouble with that, I said, where is your partial, she said it makes me gag so much I take a break wearing it. I asked her if she had it in for a while how did it feel? She said after it's in for quite a while it's not so bad. I told her that she shouldn't take breaks wearing it because her mouth adjusts to it. So she is trying to wear it more and it is better. You just have to struggle through, the mouth will adjust and get used to something in there, but once your healed up and you go without it, it will not feel right. You know? Good luck to you on the 29th.

Chatty, just what you didn't need was to be preggers and sick! And your poor little one is not well either? Plus the brother moving in, is he any help to you? I sure hope so. I hope you can find some peace soon. Its been a wirl wind of a summer so far hasn't it.

Carat, the rinses should help. Glad to hear you can wear your denture again. That is something anyway. Hope you heal up good and they can finish up your work. Have a great trip in PA...A whole week! That should be fun for you.

Betty, its nice to be able to say you feel better isn't it. That first month can be pretty rough, sometimes it's the first couple of weeks but for me I'd say a month.

I'm going to the dentist tomorrow, I can hardly wait to get this fixed so I can eat on that side of the mouth. My other side that I'm chewing on now only has one bottom tooth left and it's 'hyper sensitive', so if food lands wrong when I'm chewing it sends me to the moon! Can't eat on the side I've been glueing or it cracks again and ruins the suction of the plate, then it won't stay in. Wish I knew what the dentist has planned for tomorrow. I'm not going to call and bug him though, plus it's long distance and I usually have to wait on the phone for a bit. Now I really have to watch the pennies, hubby just bought a car for our daughter to drive. It's our car but she's using it cause the vehicle she was driving drank gas, its the truck we plow snow with. So I'm thinking, buying another vehicle is cheaper? Huh? (man's logic I guess, lol)...Not much I can do about it now. I think we do need to get rid on one of the others we have then, think he'll go for that? Woke this morning to a hum dinger of a headache, I think its allergies, I use a homeopathic for that but I'll wait to take that stuff coz you can't have anything 1/2hr before and after you take it. Sure does work though. Sometimes I have to do three of the tables with a half hr. in between, so that would take an hr. and 1/2 to do. Gotta have some coffee first! I'm on thyroid meds so I can't take over the counter stuff. The neighbor lady ask me to go to a potluck today, well, for one, I can't hardly chew on the one side and I have to eat soft stuff. 2, a friend of mine usually comes over today, 3, have this head banger, plus I woke up stiff this morning, like all over stiff, must of been sleeping in the wrong position most of the night. Tonight is a home Volleyball game too. Then tomorrow early, I've got to be at the dentist.

I know, things could be worse, that is for sure, I'm trying to count my blessings whenever I can. Better go be thankful for my washer and do some clothes, I'll be thankful for my hot water and take a shower too, gotta get moving so the stiffness will work it's way out. Take care everyone, Diana

Hi all! Casey, I am so glad you are always out (during the surgeries). I had a feeling you would be. Hope all is going well with you. And Diana! I wish you luck at the dentist today! Hope it goes well. As for the price of gas, I wish I could trade mine in! I have a big SUV...... I am really sorry I do now.... And nobody wants it if I try to trade it, espescially now. And Em, I have to say when I heard about the gagging part before I had my teeth removed, I was scared to death about that part, as I have large tonsils, and gag easily. But I am doing Ok with that now. Like Casey said, it be rough the first month (I think that was Casey, lol???) It's a big thing to do, and I hope you breeze right thru it! We will be here for you! Hope everyone is doing well! Chatty, hope you are feeling better!!!!! Take care all, Betty

I started eating steak after 2 months. Small bites work best. Fixing to have some baked steak and gravy here in a few. Apples are harder to eat than a good steak. Was eating an apple a couple days ago and took too big a bite and it popped all my adhesive loose. Didn't feel too good. Have to learn to pace myself.

Hubby owns an old fashion meat market, so yes I've had steak...giggles. Lets see, I had some about two months out. The best kind to eat, (most people don't know this) is the ones on sale that are frozen and wrapped in meat paper, not under celaphane(sp?). The plastic doesn't allow it to 'bloom' as they say in the meat language. If you can find a meat market that you pick out your own meat and they wrap it in meat paper, then you really have some meat! You can taste the difference. The cuts that are browner, they are the aged ones, or you can leave it in the freezer paper in your fridge till it's brown, that works too. Red fresh cuts are, as a rule, tougher. (my little meat lesson for you all;) )
Now for my chompers, yesterday they cut that whole piece out that keeps breaking, and put in a new section, sure feels better now! Hope this lasts for a while, I'm scheduled to start getting the permanant fitting the middle of Nov., the dentist said it takes quite a while to tweak them, so I'll maybe have them by Jan. 06'.

Xevookie, welcome, feel free to add your daily ramblings or concerns here anytime! Sounds like you are out of the woods with your extractions.

Em...What a bummer you have that gagging problem. But here is a tip, anytime you are having something done like an impression where they have to put that goop in a tray, start humming, it curbs that reflex, I told my girlfriend about that and she says it does help. Good luck!

By for now, Diana

hello all! And yes! Thank you for the meat lesson! I do go to a small personal meat market the we love! great steaks! I didn't know about the frozen ones! Will definitly try that!!! I did try a little bite, but I just can't chew well. It doesn't hurt, it's just won't chew up. I have been thinking about it, and wonder if it's the back molars on the denture. The back two or three just barely stick out of the plastic they sit in. I mean like maybe a 16th of a inch or so... It's more like I am mashing meat rather then chewing. Are all dentures like this? It's driving me crazy! I am ready to be back on normal food. It's been almost 6 weeks now. Still holding off on soft reline. Still have some fair size hole in the front. Anyway, hope all are well. And Chatty hope your family all get well soon!! Take care all! Betty

Your welcome on the meat lesson, one more tip though, you won't be able to see through the package coz it's rapped in white paper, so when you feel the frozen package, make sure it's the same thickness from one end to the other, sometimes they get packaged as frozen coz someone made a mistake and made the cut too thin on one side.

Chatty, so your getting sick and tired of everyone being sick and tired huh? Thank goodness you haven't gotten that too, along with them! That would not be good at this time! Take care of yourself, you need to stay well. I haven't heard the term 'tissue conditioner'? Not sure what that is. I've always gotten soft relines like Betty's talking about.

Betty, your going to love getting that soft reline! Yes on one side of my denture there aren't any teeth, not even a bit of one, but I can still eat, but I had mine done 11 months ago. It's so nice to have that repair done right this time, still had to take my dremel tool to the inside just a bit to relieve a sore pressure spot, but that is all fixed up too. Man it's nice to be able to chew on that side, where there's more than one big tooth. Pitiful sounding isn't it....lol. Betty, seriously, it's normal to not have what you would call a fully erupted looking tooth in the back, you have to figure in the fact that there is quite a bit between that tooth and your gums. It is a bit like mashing at first, but you'll be chewing eventually, seemed like forever before I was really grinding up my food again, it takes a while, you still have holes in the front, it's going to be a while yet. Sorry to tell you that, but it does seem like forever.

Too bad there isn't a book out there like that Dr. Spock book for babies on getting dentures: Week 1.......6th week and what you can expect... etc. Right now I'm about as healed up as I'm going to get. Now that I'm getting the fittings done Nov. 15th for my permanant teeth, I'm going to try to leave my denture out at night to make sure I have a really good healed up gum site to make that. I want the best fit I can get with that one for sure!

Gotta run for now, hope everyone is doing ok. Diana

Hi Gang, in reality with dentures you are doing more mashing the food around than actually chewing it in the sense of what we did when we had teeth. That is one reason why it so important to take small bites and to sip liquids during the "chewing" process. It is also important to learn to bite through something rather than trying to tear it with your teeth. It is a learning process that will take time, be patient.

Good thoughts to you Em!

Chatty, you take good care of yourself and get well soon.

We have below freezing temps here this morning! (31 degrees)I covered my huge Mum plants that were just about ready to bloom. I've got 8 of them in a row. I'm not ready to see out warm weather go so soon. Only good thing about the cold stuff is it get rid of bugs. I'm still taking deer tics of the dogs even though they have front line on them. I check them over as soon as they come in the house. YUCKY!

My chompers are doing good so far!

I'm taking in my daughters silky sweats outfit for Volleyball, I have to finish the seams today, better run so I can get some other things out of the way too, have arrands in town too.

Well I am home and its still hot here. I keep hoping that everytime I go back to the east coast or down south that I will come back and the weather will be a bit better and it never is. Guess I have my wishes set to high.
Vacation was wonderful, I love trees and greenery.

I didn't have not one day with even a small issue with my mouth so that is great. I was even able to take a couple bites into a soft crab sandwich with out having them falling out. Doing great there.

Diana, I am sending all the warmth I can for your mums and other plants. We dont see temps even into the high forties until January or February.
Hubby says thanks for the great meat tips. All others will be accepted also. I am sending him to cooking school starting the 6th of October. He really is pretty good at it and I figure I cooked for the first 18 years he can cook for the next 18, then we can share the duty.

Chatty, I sure hope your whole household is feeling better.

Betty, I am so happy your doing better.

EM, I hope your surgery went well and you are resting comfortably.

Hey Casey! Welcome back! It's cold and rainy here, which is unusual for NM. Nice! So, hope Diana warms, and Casey cools (weather). And Em, hope all is well. I was sending good vibes your way today. And thanks to all for the info about the teeth in back mashing versus chewing. Sure wish they were longer back there. Maybe my permanent reline? I am trying to be patient, lol. Take care all! Betty

Carat, glad to hear you had a great trip! Also that your teeth did well. :)And yes the weather is suppose to be kinder to us for a while again. That one night was all the frost were suppose to get for the next 10days anyway. Whoo hoo!

You probably know this bit about cooking meats, never salt untill your ready to eat, we use a rub sometimes but other than that just garlic powder when cooking. Thicker cuts at least 1 1/2" are better and more tender. If cooking on a stove a seasoned cast iron pan is best, rub olive oil on the meat, coat it, let the pan get hot enough for a drop of water to sizzle or skid across it, brown meat on both sides then turn down the heat till it's pink inside, this will keep the juices inside. There's your hubby lesson for today:)

Chatty how are you feeling today, any better yet? I hope so.

Em, it sounds like you came through the first hurdle well. Hopefully you will mend fast, be patient and don't get frustrated, it takes a while to adjust.

Betty, any reline makes a huge difference, but if you can make the one you've got now last, I'd stick with it, coz the more healing you can do before you have the reline the better the reline is. And once you heal up a bit more, you won't notice the mashing vs the grinding in foods. I don't notice that as much at all anymore, there's hope, keep healing up. I'm still trying to take out my teeth every night, I only missed taking them out one night this week, that is because I had to glue them in late in the day to go out for the evening.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend!!! I'm thinking of you Em, take care. Diana

Em, good for you!!! SO glad it went well for you! And Diana is right! lol, Patience is a big thing in getting denturs. Not one of my best traits, but I am learning it. And Diana, yes I am going to wait on the reline. I still haven't gotten the soft reline, because I want to to be better healed, and shrunk up. I want to wait till close to a year for the permant one so hopefully can get a good fit. I also have some bone splinters coming in now. Not to bad, and just waiting for them to come thru. The dentures are getting a little big, but if I pile on the super poli grip, I do alright. Hate cleaning it off, but it sure holds. I still haven't let my husband see me without teeth, so I only take mine out for a couple hours or so during the day when everyone is gone. I hate the way I look... But the dentist said that was pretty good. But I don't have them out on the weekend when hubby is home. OH! And I love cooking my steaks in my cast iron like that! Can't wait till I can eat them again. We always get the delmonicos our little meat market has. They have thier own ranch in the area, and have the greatest meat! I did eat some really tender roast beef last night! It was heaven. I eat better at night for some reason. Mornings I get tired of trying to chew stuff. But I am eating less which is good. Have lost 5 lbs.! Anyway, better get with it. Hope all are well, and have a great weekend! Hang in there Em. Betty

I am so glad to hear that your doing so well Em. Congrats, and welcome to the smiling gum gang!!!!
Thanks for the welcome home everyone. I loved the vacation but it was great to be home. I even missed my teenagers. Now that is bad.
I use the powder only now. The guey glue stuff just frustrates me to the point of giving up. I either get to much and it oozes out or not enough and it doesn't bond and then there is the times I some how manage to get bubbles in between the spots and they drive me batty. Powder is just so much less stressful for me.
Chatty I do hope you are feeling better and enjoying being pregnant now.
Diana, I gave Hubby the meat lesson, he said thank you and should be ready for a test in a few days. LOL
I love my cast iron cookware, my favorite fry pan is my grandmothers and was actually used on a wood burning stove. Let see if T-Fal can last that long.
Betty, I smiled when I read that you are doing so much better and now are believing that it does get better with every passing day. I guess I really didn't have the issue of letting people see me with out my teeth because I really didn't have an option at first.

Well I am still trying to get the house cleaned back to my standards after letting the mongoles destroy it for a week.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day and evening.

I have to leave my teeth in for 2 weeks, taking them out only to rinse.I dont think this is going to be a problem,so far so good!!! I ate chicken and rice soup today!!!never thought soup could taste that good lol,I tried a piece of toast but that will have to wait a few days..I feel confident enough that I am going to A NASCAR race next month...I will be the one smiling from ear to ear when Rusty wins the race .. :D

Em, your recovery sounds promising! I looked like some beat me when I had the extractions done, and each day I looked worse for the first week, then I turned all kinds of purty colors. :) lol ...sure I'm brave I can laugh about it now! I had to leave mine in for the first couple of weeks except rinsing too. I sure hope everything continues to go well for you. If you do get some residual swelling, sleep elevated, I looked like a balloon if I didn't do that.

Betty, good for you! At least you can eat some meat and get that ahhhh feeling again! A soft reline I don't think is anything like the hard one. I had many soft ones in the beginning, up till about the 5month mark. Are you going to be charged for the soft reline too? I didn't have a charge for those, that was included with the denture, my denture isn't my permanant one though. I'll have that made about Nov. 15th and get charged about in Jan. when he said that it would probably be ready after adjustments were made. That will be many trips to get that all done, I guess where they send it, it takes about 10days or so to get it back in his office. Did that make sense? Still liking my last repair that I had done on the crack in the back. Yeah! Sounds like you've got a decent meat store in your area. Anything under plastic like you find in the big super markets doesn't taste the same, hubby says it doesn't bloom properly which is the same thing as 'age'. Also it is full of oil by products from the plastic. Doesn't sound good does it.

Casey, glad to be of service, anything that will help get the guys cooking is good in my book! And I know all about cleaning when you get back from being gone. lol I'm with you, I'm a powder girl myself, but I don't have a bad fit with my teeth, I can even wear them with out glue, as long as I don't laugh or yawn they stay in.

Today my project is to fix the trim on my daughter car. It'll take a while to set with the clamps on it but hopefully it will do the trick. Did quite a bit of sewing yesterday on that old quilt I'm repairing it sure is slow going, but I'm getting there. I'll be home alone today, gas prices have gone up again, so I won't do any driving around if it's not needed, I like to stay home anyway which is good if these prices are so high.

Chatty, how are you? Hope your feeling better. I was so sick with my first pregnancy. With the second one, if I woke up at night I'd eat a little something and that seemed to really help that I didn't leave my stomach empty so long over night. Have you tried that? I'd have a little yogurt or cottage cheese or something, anything to get me till morning, I wasn't hungry but I needed something in there.

Bye for now, keep us posted Em and Betty on your progress or worries or questions, Diana

Sponge, I can only eat meat when it is cut up in very small bits. I can't seem to get the pressure to break it up small enough to swollow with out gagging and causing pain. I also have a problem if I bite on something hard that it dislodges them and causes them to rock.

Chatty, you poor thing. I sure hope you are up and going soon. It has really been a rough year for you health wise.

Em, I am so glad to hear the great news that you are doing so well. I hope it continues.

Diana, my tops stay in without the glue but if I bite down and they rock even a little bit the gagging starts and its just to hard to stop, so I am better just starting off with the powder every morning. I will get a new reline on the tops on Oct 25th when they do the uncovering of the last implant and set the receivers in the bottom denture.

While in Penn my friends aunt showed me what her implants look like. Wow, what a difference from my mouth. She has 2 on the bottom and loves them. She has had them for about 3 years, they are mini's and she can bite into an apple with no problem. Her only complaint is the O rings have to be replaced every six months or so and her dentist is a 4 hour drive away. She is saving to have 4 mini's placed in the top hopefully in the next year.

Hope everyone else is doing great. Have a wonderful Sunday.

Hi all! Hope all are doing well. Em, how is it going? The first two weeks were really rough for me, and the next two weeks after, were still hard but showing improvement. Hopefully you will breeze thru it. I was very excited yesterday! I ate a filet of fish from Mc Donalds! I even was able to bite it! Plus I had a little tiny piece of tenderloin Saturday night that my husband grilled for me (from my little meat market) It was great! I get tired of chewing as I have to chew it up more, but I ate it! I have been having to force myself to eat some days, so this was good for me. And this is with a denture that doesn't fit all that good (yet!) Still waiting on the bone splinter to come thru so I can see about the soft reline. Which yes Diana, he will be charging me I'm sure. Don't know what yet, but I was being charged 40$ for a minor adjustment. That's why I am waiting till I'm healed better and really ready for one. And sponge, I am 6 weeks out with top detures only. I was worried about chewing, but it's getting better. But I still have my bottom teeth (missing a few molars on each side) So have no idea why you are having such a hard time chewing! Maybe a second opinion from a dentist? Anyway, I better get busy! I have a stained glass piece I am working on for a craft show at my Church. It's a Christmas Angel that looks like a quilt piece, and another lady I know is making a matching quilt wall hanging to match it! We did a quilt block last month, and I think they will be a hit! Anyway, best wishes to all! Casey keep us up on how all the work is going! Take care all! Betty

Hi Everybody!!! LONG time no talk to!!! It's me .. Dee!

Having a few problems ... here's what's going on:

OK .. got all my uppers out about 2 months ago (or was it 3 months ago?) ... full upper dentures, immediate. I'm healing up fine ... gums aren't sore without dentures, but when I chew on right side (the only side I can chew on, no bottom teeth on left), it still hurts like I'm eating on a cavity or something!

It feels like I have a cavity or that the 'bone' hurts to put pressure on it.

There are no bone spurs that I know of ... never had them ... but why does it still hurt to chew? I can eat soft foods with no or little discomfort, but not hard foods.

I've been to the dentist many times for adjustments and one hard reline, but she doesn't seem to know why it's still hurting .. except to say that the bones may not be healed completely yet.

Shouldn't the bones be healed by now? I'm due for another reline, since dentures are getting loose again and I have to use the powder to eat.

How are ya'll doing that have had your upper dentues, any problems like this?

The other news is that I'm having a hysterectomy on Nov. 8th ... for heavy bleeding, pain and fibroids .. that I've dealt with for 20 years! I think it's about time! I had a D&C, hysteroscopy and biopsy 1 1/2 weeks ago, it stopped the bleeding, but I seem to be having MORE night sweats and mood swings. UGH! Not sure if the minor surgery did that or what.

I did find a terrific GYN just before all this, so I'm glad of that. He's really great and is all about allowing me the 'choices' I want.

The only thing that's worrying me is that starting a week after the D&C, I've been extremely sick to my stomach, and not able to eat much. I do take vitamins and just began to drink Boost every morning ... to assure I get the nutrition I need .. but I'm weak and tire very easily ... just not sure why that is happening. I'm scheduled to go back to see the GYN and my family doctor next week ... hopefully it's nothing serious.

Well ... that's what's been going on with me!

Hugs,
Dee

Dee it was wonderful to hear from you, I wish your update was better for you though. I still have problems chewing hard things, my bones are still healing and the doctors say it can take up to a year for them to heal. Sorry to hear about all your pain with your inners. I had my hysterectomy 9 years ago after a long battle with endo so glad that is over with.
Keep in touch. I hope you are feeling better real soon

Betty,
You are just the ispiration we all need. You are just trudging along aren't you.

Well after a bit of swelling and pain yesterday again, I went to the doctor, he sent me to the lab for blood work and I had a series of xrays and an MRI done. They scheduled me for a pikk line today at 3:30 but just before leaving the house I received the call that my blood work all shows normal levels, and although the films so some abnormalities in the bone graphing areas it is not in the bone but near it. They aren't sure as of right now what the cause is but they have ruled out the return of the osteo and other infections. The films show the bone graphings are still holding and new healthy bone is present. I feel like an unknown test subject.

All upcoming surgeries are now on hold until they figure out what is happening.

Well I have been placed on bedrest because of the antibiotics make me wacky and the pain meds just help it along a bit. So back to bed for me

Take care all
Casey

Dee, been there too, had a total hysterevtomy 8yrs ago, a year before that I had an ooferectomy..spelling on that may be wrong, but any way, I had large tumors both times, the size of soccerballs, and I'm not a very big person. Well after the first one, I was so emotional, and my sister in law who also had this done said that when you have surgery in that area, the body goes into a healing mode and doesn't produce enough estrogens and that can lead to the up and down emotional stuff and those awful night sweats. For myself I found a natural cream that is a perscription, I had to find a pharmacy that made it first then asked my doctor for a perscription, no problem the doc. said. It's called Tri-est. you just put a bit on the tummy, the pharmacist will instruct you. I had so many bad side effects with all the other Hormone Replacements out there, and believe me I tried alot of them! If you have any more questions on this I'ld be glad to help but they may want us to move to alternative health board or something. Also, I had my uppers pulled almost a year ago,and I still have some sore spots like your talking about, and the phantom toothache pain on the top. It goes away and comes back sometimes, hopefully not forever! You been though quite a bit lately. I would be tired too.

Betty, it's a bummer that you get charged so much for every little thing! The stained glass sounds awsome, an a matching quilt too! Whoo hoo! I bet that will go fast. Let us know how that goes, will you? Glad to hear your eating some of your dream foods again, don't they taste good when you finally get to eat them again. Hmmmm.

Casey, you poor thing! What next huh? Hope they figure out what to do for you! Geesh. Good thing you try and stay positive, what else can you do. Right. If your bloodwork shows normal, what is the pikk line for? Yuck, I hate anti-biotics! I hope you get well soon!!!!!!!!! And they can finish what they started. Get some good rest and hopefully you'll feel better again.

As for me, I went to the chiropractor last week because of headaches, well, he had a heck of time trying to get me back in place, and my neck wouldn't go in on one side, yesterday and today I've had a headache again. I'm sure it didn't help matters that I detailed the inside of two trucks, one van and a very dirty car this last weekend. They look awsome, but now my neck is not so good again. Still need to wax vehicles too, not sure if that is going to happen, were suppose to get 1to3'' of snow tonight. Yikes!! Too soon for that to happen if you ask me. With this neck like this it makes me clench my teeth a lot, then my ear hurts and so does my teeth and jaw. Might have to go back in for another time, then take er easy for a bit. Hubby just called and our old truck stalled on him this morning, so I have to go and pick him up at the repair shop, and bring him back to get another vehicle. Better get a move on. Everyone take care, Diana

Well no Pikk line so far. Thank goodness. They had me see a ENT and he checked me out said "yup, your swollen but I don't know why" and now is part of the medical team. HUH??? I am paying how much for what???
So for now I am just taking Cipro for the giggles of it I guess. Anti-flammatory med that is not working and lortab so I dont care about the other two. My face is so loppsidded right now. I can't wear the dentures because they dont fit again and no one seems to know what to do. Thank goodness this day is almost over and I can start all new again tomorrow.

Oh, and for a bit more laughter I decided that I can't sit here and not work anymore, so I went down to the regional office and gave them my written request for my job to be reactivated. So I should be back in the office by the end of the month. I have to go through all the security, fingerprinting and background checks again and that takes time. You all should have seen the people looking at me. OH Well what good is a sense of humor if you cant laugh at yourself.

Diana, since you seem to have a lull in your schedule when does my car get detailed?? You have so many projects and things going on all at once. You are amazing.

I hope that everyone else is doing well and have a great day people

Hi All
It has been a week today since I got my top denture..and a long week it has been..I am so thankful that I have not had any major problems like some of you have had..I have had the sore gums, a little swelling. Talking is not my favorite thing right now..I kinda lisssssssssssp LOL but they tell me that will go away and I will learn to talk again ...
I have a flat pallette , and it is making it hard to get suction , so my denture is constantly moving..I am probably a good candidate for the goop..I am going to try the powder, as soon as I get the okay to use something..
I have had 2 adjustments and go back to the dentist tomorrow .
I tried the whiskey on the gums.. :D it works for a few minutes..prolly better off drinking it , but I dont like the taste of it..
Hope all is well with everyone..sorry to hear of all your problems casey..things have to get better...

Diana,
Thanks for the advice..I went yesterday and get a few more adjustments.Much better all day..He told me i could take my teeth out at nite..so I did..I will not do it again..my gums got tender over nite and it has not been a real good day..Yesterday when i went , I complained of the denture being loose, he said when I feel it loosining up to bite down and swallow ..It creates a vaccum and tightens it back up..you all probably know this but my blonde shows through some times lol !!!But I tried it and it works..I go back on tuesday I think he is going to do a soft reline .Otherwise I am still trudging along like the rest of you..My 2 weeks will be up on thursday ,,,,I should get the go ahead to eat.....I am tired of soup and oatmeal....LOL I know you have all been there ....Hope you all have a good weekend and keep smiling.

Hi Em. I am with Diana. That's what I had to do pretty early on. It never bothered the extraction sites, and really helped the moving around, which caused gagging. But sounds like you are doing pretty good considering what you have been thru. I still have not gotten the soft reline. Maybe this next week or so. Think I am ready. And yes the food gets old, but it will get better. I still can't taste food like before, so I have kinda lost interest in food. Anyway, gotta run. Hope all are doing great. Casey hope all is well. HI EVERYONE!!!

How are all of you.
I am great feeling alot better this week! Thank gosh.
Gonna go to the denturist ask for a soft permanent reline (they are so neat looking and supposedly make a huge huge difference)instead of a hard reline or temp tissue conditioner/reline.
I am kind of sick of them feeling so big now that I have shrunk alot since he did the dentures but other then that they are ok I am ok:)

Ok talk to you guys soon, hope all are well:)
