is there any generic ovcon or anything? cuz i really liked the pill, i havent gained weight or anything and have heard good things about it so id like to stay with it but 45 dollars!!
i thought i read someone else only payin 9 dollars a month so that was what i was expecting...i have blue cross blue shield insurance and caremark for prescriptions...

There isn't a generic for ovcon, I've asked the pharmacist before. I think that something called Brevicon is supposed to be similar, though? I don't know about the cost, though. Good luck! :)

i had a job where i had blue cross and my b/c cost 15! I no longer have insurance and have to buy my pills without. Honestly 45 isnt much for a month of pills so help you NOT get pregnant.

im taking seasonale and the last pack I bought was 125!!! granted that's for 3 months it's still a lot of money all at once!

you can try to ask your doctor to give u a prescription of a pill with the same 2 hormones but, from a different pill manufacturer... the dose may be different but not by much.

I was prescribed Loestrin 1/20 (same manufacturer as ovcon-35) and i take the generic, which is Microgestin 1/20 and all i paid was $10 with blue cross blue shield.

I went to the Migrogestin1/20 manufacturer's website (watson phamasueticals) and it looks like Brevicon is the closest thing to Ovcon 35 as KittyWitty has stated...then, i went to the walgreen's site for a price range and it looks like Brevicon has a generic form called Necon 0.5/35 (same mfg, weird) which is priced for about 27 bux.. and im pretty sure its covered under blue cross blue shield so u might end up paying only $10 or $15.

from what i understand, caremark is just like the prescription provider part of the insurance i have. im still under my moms insurance since im a student.
we have a separate card for it...
im kinda clueless on some of this stuff!
i think i might talk to my doctor and then figure out what similar pill is on my preferred drug list.

for the pill, try to get a quote for either Brevicon or Necon 0.5/35 thru caremark, then see if ur Dr can give u a prescription.

I was on the Ortho Evra patch for almost a year (loved it, since I never could keep up with taking the pill every day), but it's $40 every cycle, and I am unable to afford that right now. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield also, and Pharmacare is the prescription thingy, and I was told by the pharmacy that the patch is not covered by insurance. All this stuff is very confusing.
I used to be on Ortho Tri-Cyclen and it was like $7 a month at my college's health services building.

Hi,....again, lol

One more suggestion... maybe you can ask our Dr. to give you a few more samples of it...

Im not sure what Dr.s' inventory is like but they may get quite a few meds they can give out to their patients. My bf, for example, suffers bad allergies and he gets free meds every so often from his Dr. (my bf doesnt have inurance).
Maybe u can call and ask.

:D

thanks Nyxen, i think i will ask for another sample or 2 at least until i can get in and talk to him about another choice thats covered.
i know Ortho Tri-Cyclen lo is on the list, but im scared to use that one just from stories ive heard. im just comfortable with ovcon cuz i havent gained weight and everything seems to be working right. its going to be sucha hassel to start a different pill, and im not even sure how to do that...would i just start it after i get done with my last pack of ovcon, like i normally would? do u have to wait again for it to be effective? ill have to check Brevicon or Necon 0.5/35 too...those would be just about the same at ovcon?
lorraine521~that does suck, 70 dollars all at once! i guess at least its only every 3 months.
thanks for everyones help! this is frustrating, seems like ovcon would be on there!

Hi,
Brevicon or Necon 0.5/35 are the closest one to ovcon 35. They all have the same progestin. the only difference is that ovcon-35 has 0.4 mg norethindrone and 35 mg ethinyl estradiol and Brevicon / Necon 0.5/35 has 0.5 mg norethidrone and 35 mg of ethinyl estradiol.

Ortho TriCyclen lo has a different progestin and its a triphasic pill which means that the doses change thru out the month.

If you were to start the new pills right after ur ovcon, like usual, you should be fine...

I know, Seasonale is mad expensive! I have to pay the full, what is it, $128 dollars or something! And I guess Blue Cross Clue Sheild doesn't cover it otherwise I'd be paying less. But yeah, that is alot all at once like someone said. I was considering on switching to something different, but I like Seasonale way too much...

I am on Ovcon-35 and have Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance. No matter what bc i have been on since I've had this insurance (Ortho patch, Ortho Tri-Cyclen , Ortho Tri-Cyclen lo, and now Ovcon-35) my bc pills/patch have ALWAYS costed $9.36 a month. I can count on it to always be that. That is very weird that we have the same insurance, yet yours is so higher. Does it matter what pharmacy or where you live at? I live in the San Antonio, TX area.

I'm also on Ovcon-35 and I only pay $20. I have HAP (Health Alliance Plan). I live in Michigan. I think it just depends more on the insurance rather than where you live. :)

Ovcon-35 and only 10-20 bucks a month? I'm wondering...Is that a pill where you only get your period 4 times a year? Or is it one where you can make it become that? Because honestly, $128 every 3 months is killing me.

Ovcon is monophasic. You can take it where you only get 4 periods a year, continous packs back to back (no placebo week), then pause every so often for a period. I just take it regularly and get a period every month, though.

Hi Nichol,

Any news? why dont u try asking a local pharmacy for a quote instead of going thru caremark, it might be cheaper that way...

I have Blue Cross Blue Shield and I live in San Antonio, TX and for Ovcon-35 I pay $9.36/month, which I have mentioned already, HOWEVER if I try to get my pills before the next month I pay full price. I use Blue Cross Blue Shield for my perscriptions as well as health care. Maybe, that's the problem, although someone has this for insurance, they use something else for prescriptions. It's just weird that someone who has the exact same insurance pays different amounts for the same pill.
