Hello all,

For the past month or so now I have had mouth ulcers come and go right at the back of my mouth on the gum. When they come up, it is very painful, but it only lasts a few hours, and then they go away.

I can go a day or so with none, but then I wake up, and there's one there.

Any ideas of what can be causing this? It is on the side of my gum, where my wisdom tooth should be, although I don't have my wisdom teeth yet.

Hope someone can help, this is making me miserable! To make matters worse, I'm going to an Indian tonight for my birthday! :nono:

Okay what does going to an Indian have to do with it????

Nevermind, do you grind your teeth or clench your jaw while sleeping and when you are stressed out. Its a possiblity. But to be sure you might want to give your GP a call.

Spicy foods agitate them!

I don't grind my teeth, and from what I know, I sleep with my mouth open! Plus they come up in the day as well as overnight. Not been stressed at all.

Today is a prime example - I had one when I posted this morning, and now it's gone!! Weird.

I will mention it the next time I go to the GP - Got the dentist in September anyway, so will ask her if I get there before!

Sounds like you might have an infection somewhere in your gums. If not, there are products made with Xylitol (a natural sugar with 40% less calories and has a bacteria fighting ingredient that has become very popular) It is also used for fighting tooth decay. Check the products out at Xylitol.com. I think there is a tooth paste that says that it helps to prevent mouth sores, also. I just ordered about $200.00 of their products.

J20, I was thinking maybe it was stress related with the coming and going or that you might be agrivating the tissue by biting it when sleeping, since this is what my doctors and dentist dicovered was my issue years ago after going through several expensive tests that showed nothing.

I am unable to breath through my nose and only breath through my mouth, therefore I also have my mouth open some when I sleep. I also grind and clench my teeth. I to get small blister type sores in my mouth that come and go sometimes within hours other times they stay for a day or so.

I have never eaten Indian so I was unaware that it is spicy.

I hope that your dentist is able to help you figure out what is causing yours
