Last Wednesday I had a colonoscopy. I didn't have a bowel movement until Saturday (which had a little blood), and Sunday (which had a lot of blood), and I haven't had one since. Yes, I've been eatindg lots of fruits and vegatables, and taking metamucil twice daily, and drinking a ton of water. My question, is why can't I move my bowels, and is this normal? Also, I'm a bit concerned with the bleeding from Sunday. Does anyone have any suggestions about what may be going on inside of me.
Thanks,
July

Call your Dr. He or she can tell you better than anyone here. Good luck

hey july, what was the out come of your colonoscopy? it is probably from straining... even though there are times we dont feel as if we are, it could be from a hemmroid that is still inside and you just cant feel it....

Hi Bella,
The doc removed some polyps, and he told me that I had internal hemroids. Well you know that I was bleeding before the scope. So I asked my doctor did he see where I was bleeding from, and he said no. However, he did say that my internal hemroids are too small for me to have surgery. He said that a surgeon won't touch them. Well, I just had a bm and there was drips of blood. I'm just concerned. Is this normal. When I use the cream it works for a while, and then I see the blood again.

I think many of us here are more than qualified to answer your question... We have probably had more colonoscopies than a couple of our Gastros put together!! ;)
After a Colonoscopy, it is PERFECTLY normal to have trouble restarting a normal bowel pattern. Just continue drinking plenty of water and take your fiber. Keep eating your fruits and veggies, and you will again begin to have a pattern more normal to what you used to be. Remember, it's ok if you don't have a BM per your normal schedule. Some people go for a few days, and that is their regular cycle. I would suggest, however, if you did have an every day pattern before, you can buy stool softners (docusate) or an enema. Empty the saline filled enema bottle and fill it with warm tap water. It's much more healthy and natural for the bowel.
Otherwise if you can help it, try not introducing NEW things that you didn't use before the procedure. Just try to get regular exercise and eat right. This will stimulate the colon naturally. Things will be back to normal soon enough. Rest assurred.

Sometimes the bowel reacts to the scope by shutting down. It is analogous to getting hit on the head and having the brain shut down for a time to sort things out and figure out what it does for a living again.
