I was wondering if it is OK to eat 2 hrs before exercising. In the morning I usually have a good 300 calorie breakfast high on the protein side then I hit the gym at 10 am, do 30 mins of weight training and then 45 mins of intense cardio afterwards usually around 11:30 am I always have a whey protein shake with fruit. My goal as always is fat loss, I was wondering if the meal timing here was OK?

more than fine in my opinion. i believe in fueling the workout and replenshing after and allowing total calories consumed vs burned over the course of the day determine fat loss :)

I guess I was just wondering if there was a problem with eating a few hrs before exercising instead of 30 mins to an hr like is recommended by most. I thought since I have a bigger breakfast it might be OK.

Oh yah, I think that it would be absolutely fine as long as your not feeling hungry like you NEED to eat!
And i'm with Abear about the calories throughout the course of the day.

My trainer says to do 10-15 mins of cardio before you eat to burn what is stored, because each morning we start with a clean slate. Then eat a GOOD breakfast and get to your regular workout when you can after that. Just my 2 cents.

Unfortunately, I don't have that option. I have 2 20 month old babies that have to get taken care of first. By the time I get them dressed, fed and out the door its 2 hrs later and I know its not good to go that long after you wake up without eating.

Eating 30 minutes prior to exercise is way to close for me. I prefer and hour and more if the workout is vigorous.

Yeah me too, I figure as long as I ate something and I'm not hungry I'm OK.

typical recommendations are if you're doing solid food to have it 45 to 90 minutes before the workout. liquid calories are fine 15 to 30 minutes before.
