Hey there!
My baby is 5 months old and was late getting her 4 month shots. They gave her the "second dose" of the vaccine two days ago and she is just miserable now. The woman who gave her the shot was a student "in-training" and she jabbed my baby so hard, that it even hurt me! The right side of her leg is red and swollen, about an inch wide, and it's warm to the touch. I keep giving her tylenol, hoping she'll sleep, but she's restless. We didn't sleep much last night and she doesn't want to sleep today. She is fine one minute and then the next minute, she's wailing in pain. Could the injection site be infected or is this normal after having immunizations?

I am not sure about the infection thing. I do remember some shots causing a reddish area and a lump for awhile. There is also one shot around that time that makes them a little more cranky then the others. Have you tried putting a cool washcloth over the swollen area to help soothe it and bring down the swelling? That might make her feel a little better. Poor thing. Sorry to hear this one is not going well for her or mama.

Yah, those lumps can be pretty normal as well as the crankiness. Maybe try infant motrin..it sometimes packs a better punch than Tylenol. And FYI that lump can hang out for a little while before it goes away.

This all sounds kind of normal for shot reaction but if things get any worse i would place a call to her doc.FB

My DS got his 4 month shots last month and it was really hard for him and I later that day. He got two injections in both legs.. a total of 4 shots. By the time we got home from the Dr. office, he couldn't move his legs becuase of the amount of pain he was in. This coming from a baby that is constaintly kicking his chubby little legs. He become very feverish for the remainder of the day. Infant tylenol was given throughtout the day. Then in the middle of the night when he woke up, he was all sweaty and hot so I took his temp. and it was something like 102.2 so more tylenol.. at the site of the injections it was also red and very swollen and warm to the touch.. It took about two days for him to recooperate.
