Tiarah, there are 4 primary drugs used to treat MS, I believe they are all called "disease modifying" drugs. I am not on any of them, but read the explanation here - Coxopane(?), Rebif(?), Avonex and Betaserone(?). Question marks are because I don't know if I got them right! Someone will need to correct my "pop quiz" - LOL.

I have been on Avonex for more than a year and it took ME a good week to figure out what CRABS meant! ha!

So many people are stumped by the "CRAB" meaning. It used to be the "ABC" drugs until Rebif came along a few years ago. I say we reconsider and refer to them as "BARC" instead of "CRAB" . I don't know, every time I hear the drugs referred to as "CRAB" it sounds kinda silly. I suppose we MSers need a good laugh anyway. Have a great night everyone - Sharon Grace

LOL...the first time I heard it the term "CRAB meds" I thought "what the hell does that have to do with MS?" It took me a while to get past the shock!!! I wont say what I thought you were referring to, but I am willing to guess it popped in some one elses mind but mine!

I glad I figured out the search feature as I couldn't figure out "crab" either. My doctor calls the drugs ABC+ for Avonex, Betaseron, Copaxaine (sp) plus the other newer drugs.
