I am new to this board but I am now doing step 3 of the 3 steps that I have to do in order for my doctor to recommend me for GP surgery and for my insurance to pay for the surgery. I can't believe every thing that has to be done before you are even considered. I have always had problems with my weight but it got worse after I had my children.

I totally understand what you are saying. ALl of the specialists that you have to see and the documentationthe insurance companies want and THEN you have to wait & see if you are approved. It's a VERY aggrivating time!! I did it all & was denied. I am now appealing their decision. Best of luck to you :-)

I too am trying to get approved. I started this process in Jan 2005, Friday of last week I found out I was approved by BC/BS of TN which is my carrier, but now it has to be approved by BC/BS of AL, because I live in AL. Even tho BC/BS of AL will not be paying for the surgery, Does this make sense? Just one of the many hoops they make you jump thru in this process. Be sure to stay on your insurance co to make sure they are getting your paperwork from the Drs, because this has been one of my many delays. Best Wishes, thinatheart

Well, I just found out from my doctor that I also have to see her every month for 12 months. I wish they would have told me about that little glitch sooner. Plus, if I miss a month, I will have to start all over. It is like jumping through hoops to have this surgery. Also, since my doctor is fairly new to the procedures, I was given a phone number to call to find out more information. I think that they should be the ones finding out the info for me and not the other way around. Best of luck to the rest of you...although right now I am feeling frustrated!!!

I know how you feel, everytime I called the Dr they would say they haven't heard anything. Finally I called the ins co - they said they had not gotten paperwork they had requested from the dr. When I had the dr resend the info to the ins co, it took only a week! I finally got approved! I am so excited. I may even be able to have my surgery next week! Ya'll keep trying, I'll be posting to let you know how everything goes. It has been a LONG process. Stay on the Drs & Ins co about your paperwork! Best Wishes!

I wish you all the luck, and I will absolutely keep on whoever I have to, to get the ball rolling. I would think that the Insurance Companies and the Doctor would want and push for the surgery to get us all healthy. But, what do I know.

Thanks! I went to the dr today and my GB is on next Wednesday! I am thrilled and eagerly embracing this chance at a new life! Stay on them at least once a week.

Well, I finally got hold of the nurse at Creighton Hospital in Nebraska to find out what exactly I needed to do. I explained everything that was wrong with me and that my doctor told me that she had called over and chatted with them. The thing that upset me was that no one has faxed over any of my medical records to the hospital. I had to call my doctor and tell them what all needed to be faxed over and to whom they needed to fax the info to. All of this made me kind of upset since I am the patient! Anyway, I am going to check in with them next week to see if my doctor faxed over my info. By the time you read this, you will have had the surgery....good luck in recovering. Let me know how things go.
