Has anyone experienced the tendency to retain fluid after going off the patch? I have not smoked for 4 months but was on the patch up until 4 weeks ago. Since then, I have gained about 5 lbs, all in fluid (bloated).
I don't see where this is a symptom or side effect of nicotine cessation in anything I have read, but it's too coincidental to not have something to do with it.
Anybody have any ideas?

Hi harleybird--
Can't say I have ever heard of fluid retention, as an after effect from nicotene withdrawl. Never have seen it on this board for the 2 years I've been coming here, either, (that I can remember) Possibly just your bodies way of coping with the withdrawl, temporarally, maybe? Or could it just be the hot weather that seems so prevalent, all over the country right now? I know it makes me swell sometimes. What I do when I'm retaining fluid is, 1. Cut out the sodium/salt intake...no sodas, chips, etc. and 2. Drink plenty of water, to help flush it out. I had the same problem just the other day, (ate too many cashews the night before, combined with walking in hot weather), so I really drank a ton of water the next day, and it really got me going! Next day, 2 lbs of water weight was gone! :)
Congratulations on your successful quit--that's wonderful!! :D
