Ok, I have an appointment on Friday at a "weight management center"...It's not Weight Watchers, it's a doctor supervised prescription weight control clinic. Have any of you had success with this...Also please don't blast me, I know many of you are losing weight without prescriptions, but I have tried and failed on that route, and I feel that I need a little extra help.
This clinic carries anything from Merdia to Phentermine, neither of which I know much about. I liked this clinic because they monitor their patients on a weekly basis. I have 100 plus pounds to lose, and blood pressure that I must keep an eye on. Some of the other clinics I called said "YOu pick up your 'pills' and come back in three months"!!! :O this sounded bad!
any info is appreciated...

Mom of 3.....I am not going to blast you, hon. Just wanted to be up front with you. Been there, done that. Many years ago, went to a diet center that gave me prescription "diet" pills and I had soooo much energy and lost all the weight I need and about ten pounds more because I was so excited about the whole thing. First time in my life I was so lean and trim. But, to be honest, I was not myself. I hardly slept because I really didn't need much sleep. My throat was constantly dry and I got a lot of sore throats on the meds. I went from 159 lbs to 116 lbs in a relatively short period of time because I had basically no appetite. I was weaned off the meds over a period of time. My appetite returned over time and not only did I gain every single ounce back...I gained a whole lot more. I have finally decided at the age of 41 (almost 42) that there are no magic cures and no magic lasting pills. I have returned to eating sensibly and exercising and have in my mind that it will take time and energy and effort and it will definitely take longer than the drugs took...but I am focused on doing it alone. There are side effects to EVERY drug and everyone is different and it reacts differently on each one. Just be careful if you do go this route. God Bless http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

I understand. Your appraoach is the right one. I will be doing WW123 and taking the meds to help me through the first few months. I am fully aware that the main goal is to lose slowly and keep it off. I unfortunitely have some problems as I am 160 lbs overweight. I need the extra help, and at this point, I feel pretty secure that I am doing the right thing.
THANKS FOR ALL THE INFO!

keep in mind that while their are people who gain the weight back, their are also ones that keep it off
if u change your diet and lose weight, same thing u will probably gain it back if u go back to a crappy diet i think, im just guessing ive never tried either of these,im just mentioned this so mom of 3 wont think pills are worthless
even if the pills make her lose weight temporararely, that could be a good thing, because it might make her realize their is hope and seeing herself at a lighter weight might be enough motivation to keep it off
by the way most or all of those pills do not work by simply decreasing your appetite, they work in other ways too,if your looking for something to decrease your appetite that is not a prescription, their probably are some out their but i dont know them off the top of my head ,u'd have to do some research

thanks for the thoughts...I am very pleased with the way I have been feeling since on the meds, and I plan to stay on WW123 for the rest of my life, I LOVE IT!
THANKS!

Hi Mom of 3,
I have a friend who used a diet center. She is in her early 30's and had aprox 180 lbs to lose. She took off her first 80 using the center and the meds.
It was her idea to use this method as a jump start, so that she could see quick (did it in less than 3 months!) results, and therefore be willing to hang with the slower process of taking off the last 100 by "just" eating correctly.
After not gaining any of the 80 back for 6 months, she also had a tummy tuck to further enhance her appearance (and thus, her motivation). She's looking hot enough, even with 90 something lbs. to go, that her husband is getting jealous of the attention she is getting from other men! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/biggrin.gif What a WONDERFUL motivator her keep her going!
It's a pretty harsh way to deal with a lifetime of bad habits around food. Though I'd never make such a recommendation to any of my clients, Hey! Who am I to knock it if it works?!

Hey, Copper, did your friend do any type of eating program when she lost the 80 lbs? That is pretty fast! I don't anticipate me losing anymore than 12 lbs a month until I get down to 200lbs, then mabe 7 lbs a month after that. I would love to lose weight as fast as your friend, but I have only lost 60 lbs before, and gained it right back http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif...I am lucky to be 27 and this is my second attempt to lose the weight, hopefully because I haven't yoyo-ed to much, it will still come off! I have heard a lot of people talk about the meds on the phentermine website, but I never hear anyone talk about an eating plan, other than the fact that they are not eating much because of the meds...lol...So, I would really appreciate the info on your friend, she sounds a lot like me. My family/hubby, are constantly telling me what potential I have, ok, so I am tooting my own horn, but I agree, it is such a shame to be 27 and look like I am 45! Also, the tummy tuck is something I knew I would always have to get because of how my skin hangs from the weight and from 3 babies. Can I ask how much she paid for it? Anyway, whatever happens, I am doing it for sure this time...I MEAN IT!

I saw commercials on TV for Meridia, and it says on the ad that you should be 30 lbs or more overweight depending on height. Is it just me or does the woman in the red dress look fine, and DEFINITELY not 30 lbs overweight??? It makes me feel like I want the drug and I have about 15 to lose, and am not technically overweight. I just think the ad is very misleading.

I agree, totally! I wish I looked like her! lol I have about 160 lbs to lose. By the way, the weight loss specialist said that Meridia is a real dud, The most he ever had his patients lose it 2 lbs! Phentermine is much better and has been around longer.
Anyway, if you are only 15 lbs overweight, mabe you should try something over the counter. Just make sure it is regulated by the FDA, and don't try Ma Haung, it's a real killer http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wink.gif
