I wash my hair at night and dry it before I go to sleep. I can't take a shower in the morning because my hair is slightly dry and frizzy, and when I sleep it makes the frizz go down a bit. But lately when I wake up, my hair is so tangled to the point where I can't even run my fingers through it without it causing pain. When I try to brush it, it feels like my hair is being ripped out. I use a leave-in conditioner (Infusium 23) but I'm not sure what else to do.

Hi journies,
You can try buying a satin pillow case. As we toss and turn at night on our cotton pillow cases, our hair gets tangled up pretty bad. On a satin pillow case, the hair easily slides around with you.
I used to do this when my hair was longer. If your hair is long enough, you can put it in one or two large soft rollers on top of your head. When you brush it out the next morning it's soft and full of body.
Any more suggestions out there for journies?

you may want to try washing your hair with a clarifying shampoo. you might have some build-up on your hair that is causing it to tangle so easily.

Getting a trim every 4-6 weeks will also help. Dry/split ends tangle the hair very easily.

Have you tried out biolage products? I like using tresemme it has a leave in detangler that works wonders on my long thick hair. Also dont use a brush use a detangling brush one with a wide width comb.

I highly recommend some spray-on detangler. There's many types to choose from; I prefer the leave-in conditioning detangler. You just spritz your hair lightly before you brush it. If your hair is long enough, you might want to try braiding it before you go to sleep. I've been braiding my hair back nightly for years, and between that and the detangler spray, I've noticed that my hair doesn't get split ends like it used to.

Maybe I can offer some suggestions which might help you. If it's possible, I suggest you braid your hair to sleep. It will protect the cuticle and prevent the hair from rubbing on the sheets and pillow.
A drop or two of either Monoi or Jojoba oil rubbed between your palms and smoothed thru the length of the hair can help control frizzies. Oil also protects the hair shaft, thus protecting the ends.
I have not brushed my hair since 1989. I use only a hair pick. This might help your hair, also.
If you're using a shampoo or conditioner that contains ingredients with "cones" at the ends of the words, the products can be triggering your hair to be fly-away.
Don't be discouraged! HTH.
