My philosophy for weight loss, and it is a simple one. It is the same theory for you finances too!
Weight loss will only occur when one of two things happen (or a combination of the two).
1.) Decrease the amount of caloric intake.
2.) Increase the amount of physical exercise.
You will also reap benefits if there is a combination of the two.
The same is true with your finances.
1.) Decrease the amount of outgoing.
2.) Increase the amount of income.
Either stop spending so much .. or get out and make some more money!
Simple but true! My theory is, the more simple we keep things, the happier and easier life is. Just like with kids ... they are a joy to be around, because they keep it simple!

How true. The only way I learned to lose weight was to educate myself on calories, nutritional content, and portion size. That's when the weight came off.
Can you believe that there are still people out there who are under the impression that they can consume 2000 calories of fat-tree ice-cream because they don't believe that non-fat calories count? Untrue.
The "fat-free" myth has made the people of this country very over-confident and over-weight.

Oh .... I can sure believe that! And correct me if I am wrong (And I have been a couple of times in my life) ... bit I understand that most fat-free foods are actually higher in sugar!

Amazing!!! It's so amazing that people don't see the logic in losing weight and being healthy! I'm amazed at how much money people spend on trying to find a quick weight-loss plan! (If one really worked, wouldn't we all be walking around with perfect bodies!?)
Geez, I don't mean to sound condesending, but after reading all of the posts asking for quick ways to lose weight - I can only stop and think - "Are people really that dumb?"
I just want to scream at people who will spend all sorts of money on dangerous chemicals and put themselves through carzy diet plans only to get o results.
How can people think that they can lose weight by finding a magic pill and continue to eat all of the junk food and crap that they do!!!????
Wake up people!
I lost 80lbs. changing my eating habits and exercising. It only took me about 6-8 months. AND (here's the kicker!) It's been 6 years since I lost the weight and have been able to keep it off. I fluctuate between 5 - 10 lbs depending on the season and the holidays, but I don't worry about it because with exercise and a healthy diet, it comes right off!

Hi BlueEyes .....
You are so right! That is exactly how it works for me .... and how it will work for everyone! People need to realize that they did not gain the weight overnight, and therefore will not loose it overnight!
Once I get my exercise routine going, and get my diet in line, I sometimes loose MORE weight then I wanted to in the first place. I find myself eating all the time .. just a lot more healthy.
Thanks for sharing your success story with all of us .. and maybe you can (or anyone else who reads this post) stop by our page for the "Buddy System"
Have a GREAT day ......
Dave

Hello guys! Blue eyes, you are so right. I am now down 98lbs,and have been eating right and exercising since February. It has been 10months, but i don't have any desire to be that big again. Plus when a doctor tells you if you keep it up,you will die before you are 40,it really scares you. I think there is nothing better than feeling healthy and alive!!!!!

In general I agree with your philosophy, but the calorie theory of weight gain/loss does not work very well in the real world. The calorie theory works fine if you are dealing with a thermodynamic process such as a steam engine. The human body is much more complex than this though. All calories (protein vs. fat vs. carbohydrate) are not equal. A gram of carbohydrate, while containing the same 4 calories as a gram of protein or half the 9 calories of a gram of fat, will have a bigger effect on weight (read "fat") gain or loss than either protein or fat. The reason for this that the body releases the hormone insulin (the fat storing hormone) in response to the consumption of carbohydrate (with the exception of fiber). The lack of carbohydrate consumption (whether due to a low carb diet or starvation) triggers the body to release the hormone glucagon which is necessary for the release of fat from the adipose tissue and conversion to an energy source. Protein and fat consumption have little effect on either of these hormones.
It has been shown time and time again that a diet low in carbohydrate (sugars and other easily digested carbohydrates) and moderate in protein and fat will have the best results for most people with regards to fat loss, muscle retention, and energy levels.

I hope I can finally post on this! I have been trying since the new board took place, but it would never accept my password, ANYWAY. I think the "buddy" System is a great idea. I am a Social Worker in my 4th year of my career and all that desk work has taken the toll on my body. I started back to the gym yesterday and I am doing a low fat, less carbohydrate diet. I want to lose 30 pounds, but more important I want to get my body back in the shape I know it can be. I am 28 years old, married, very busy going to school to get my Masters, volunteer, etc but I have decided that losing sleep to exercise will be worth it. Any tips or ideas would be great! I am a voracious water drinker and until recently I never was a sugar addict.

I'm happy that you had the willpower to do it without any pills, etc. Not everyone can do it that way.
I personally am not looking for quick weight loss, but I want to see something happen in right directiion. I would be perfectly happy losing 2 pounds a week. But losing a couple pounds and then gaining a couple pounds doesn't help my motivation.
I had terrible sugar cravings and working in a food plant with cookies and other stuff doesn't help. I did find something to help, and I haven't had any side effects. I'm happy with it.
Plus, without the cravings, I am able to eat healthier. I have been eating a lot more fiber, which seems to be helping with the weight loss.
So, don't automatically think that anyone who is taking something to help them lose weight is looking for the quick & easy way. It might be the only way for them.
