Hi

First, I would like to say how sorry I am that anyone has to have this disease. Now I am hoping for your help.

Last year I was hospitalized with what appeared to be a series of small TIA's. With it I experianced one sided weakness and I lost the ability to stand and was slurring my speech and head drooping. It was a sinking of inside my elbow that led my GP to do a muscle biopsy...that led to another one, of the leg, and I was hoping someone would have information or similar findings on a biopsy that led to a diagnoses.

The findings are as follows: excessive variation of fiber size, very small angulated fibers, nuclear bag fibers and an increased # of fibers with internal nuclei. Fascicular architecture is abnormal. NADH stain shows target fibers, targetoid fibers, moth eaten fibers and hyperchromatic small- angulated fibers.

Increased activity in some fibers, marked predominance of type 2 over type 1 fibers. Mild fiber type grouping.

The bottom of the report states: Denervation with mild inervation. There was also, demyelination and collateral sprouting.

The doctors were looking for a mito disease but no red ragged fibers. So my question is does this sound like it could be a motor neuron disease.

Some of my research points to neurogenic changes, but the doctors have a wait and see attitude. (albeit, kind)

I have fasciculations...some can be seen, and fibrilations. My muscles are very tight and painful to loosen or tighten.. Fingers lock and are clumsy. I wake out of my sleep not breathing and more recently I have a feeling that my wind is gone from my throat...kinda hard to describ and my voice gets gruff. My tongue is corrugated on one side. My regular doctor said something about the specialist wanting to do EMG testing and perhaps another biopsy in 6 months which will be in September.

Just looking for some thoughts....advice. Any input wil be great!

Thanks so much for your time.
