I was one of the test subjects for Accutane while it was going through approval. That was nearly 20 years ago. I have NEVER had a recurrence of the severe, cystic acne I had at the time, but I do get zits every once in a while, and I'm in my 30s. Compared to what my skin was like before, I can live with a few zits every so often. It DID have some of the side effects my doctor mentioned while I was on it, but they went away once I got off it. For me, with the horrible skin where I did not want to leave my house, Accutane was sent from God.

According to several people and at least one gov. accutane has killed several people along with causing severe mental problems. The French gov. has made the mfg. put very scary warning notices on all sales of this drug.

I had acne for the past 27 years. I am 38 years old. My dad is a pharmacist and I tried everything that was available at the time, ointments, oral antibiotics, etc. Last year I finally went on accutane and my doctor told me that I would never have another breakout in my life. Boy, was he dead wrong! I still break out and I know several people that have been on accutane 3 times. So in answer to your question, YES!, you may still breakout. Every body is different. Sorry for the not so encouraging news.

There was an article from Ann Landers (I think) regarding acne. She recommended using egg whites for a month and then only at times of break-out. I would check in to this as a possibility vs accutane.

Well I was on accutane when I was 15yrs old to 16 yrs old then I doubled the does at 16 going on 17. My ance was gone even all my scares. I love it !!! However is was tough at times. I will tell you that I all my ance came back and worse then before after the birth of my son. I have been fighting it for 4 years now. I am now 24yrs old and I have been to a doctor or two. they just give me all these lotions that don't work. I can't get back on accutane, due to I have no insurace. It is costly. I would take accutane again if I was. I have been getting facials and I cut off my finger nails as short as I could get them it really helps. i use Dr. Murad products it woks for me how ever everyone akin is different. Pro active was okay it worked just not as fast as I wanted. I have a bad habit of picking!! The worse thing you could do, I know. I know that you can have different causes of acne. My opion is nNo it does not cure ance forever.
