hi there all,
for the last couple of months i've been woken up every night at least a couple of times with completely numb hands. i have to shake them about to get any kind of feeling or control back in them. they're like lumps on the end of my wrists and it's a bit painful as they wake back up, like bad pins and needles, but other than that i don't get any pain.

during the day they're a bit swollen and weak sometimes but not much and they don't cause any pain. occasionally the tip of my ring finger goes numb if i'm doing something manual like sweeping the yard.

i've had this about three or four times over the past ten years, lasting a few months each time. i haven't seen a doctor as it doesn't cause me much bother other than disturbing my sleep, but i can't help wondering if the completely numb hands might be causing some longer term damage.

does this sound like CTS? and is it worth checking it out if it's not causing much pain ?

thanks, Aerogirl1.

If it's the ring and pinkie, sounds more like ulnar nerve entrapment i.e.; cubital tunnel syndrome. You should see a doctor about it. I'd start with an orthopedist. I have that problem too and it does cause numbness while sleeping - which is my biggest issue. Also, while driving, typing, some housework, etc. A doctor can assess exactly what the problem is and how far along. I had to have nerve studies done in order to come to this conclusion - it isn't something which shows up on x-rays or MRI. Sometimes, very minor adjustments in lifestyle can help it - other times surgery is required.

Good luck!
Laurie
