A major part of my depresson lately has been waking in the middle of the night worrying. I finally broke down and started Zoloft. I know it can cause insomnia but it was already a symptom. I can't concentrate on work and get anything done without a good nights rest. Help!

Have you tried some herbal remedies like Kava or Passion Flower? They tend to wear off (for me anyway) after a week so it's best to rotate around with different aids. I figure herbs are at least good for you. Good luck and sleep tight..
I use Tylenol PM. I've used it on and off for years.

Are you worried about getting back to sleep or do you lie in bed and worry about other things? If you are concerned about your day-to-day affairs, it might be best to journal or meditate on them about an hour to hour and a half before sleep. Just take the time and get it all out of your system. If you wake up mid-morning and can not get back to sleep right away: get up and walk around, have a snack or read a little until you feel tired enough to go back to bed.
In the August 1st snoozeweek (Newsweek) there is an article on page 48 about a new generation of sleeping pills coming out that they claim are less addictive and have fewer morning after "hangovers". They also say that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is gaining ground as a popular therapy.
A three mg dose of melatonin, 50mg of Benadril, milk and aspirin, Progressive Muscle Relaxation and visualization have all helped me to overcome insomnia at times.
Good luck.

My pharmacist told me that Tylenol PM contains some Benedryl. That's a plus for me since I have allergies. I have also read that Benedryl somehow helps anxiety too.
