I have been using Enfamil LIPIL with iron since my son was born. The
past couple of days he has been very gassy and cries alot between daytime feedings. My MIL told me one of her other grandsons had a similar problem and it was the iron in the formula. Does anyone know if this is true?

I know the iron can mess them up. I used Similac Advance with iron. If he just has gas try giving him Mylicon after/before each bottle, it natural and won't hurt him. I know my son had trouble with constipation and the only thing that helped was adding dark corn syrup to a couple bottles a day to keep him regular and not have painful bowel movements. Good luck.

Our first two both had the same problem and our ped recommended the low iron formula. It is not a good idea to change to that on your own because only your ped knows what would be best (like if your baby has anemia or is close to it that would not be a good choice). Check with him or her, but your MIL could be right about this. Some other ideas to help with gas are:
Mylicon or its generic, drops before each feeding
Burping the baby before each feeding as well as during and afterwards
A very small amount of diluted pear juice once in awhile (that worked like a charm when any of our three were constipated)
Having your baby sleep in an upright position or on his side or tummy. Being on the back can be very painful for anyone with gas

I would talk with your doctor before switching his formula. My DD has been on formula with iron since she was born. At her nine month appointment she was anemic and needed to be put on iron. So even though her formula had added iron it still wasn't enough for her. Her ped said her body was growing fast then her iron supply was. So check with your doctor first and see what is the best for your baby,
