I had an upper molar extracted 2 1/2 weeks ago. It was a difficult extraction. My dentist couldn't get one of the roots out and sent me to an oral surgeon. The surgeon got the root out and put me on antibiotics.

I had very little pain after the extraction - just a mild ache that came and went. I didn't need to take any pain medication. I had my post op appointment with the surgeon a week later, who said that I had healed well.

I still have the mild ache that comes and goes, usually after eating or brushing my teeth, but sometimes just out of the blue. Is this normal or could something else be going on ?

My surgery was three months ago and I still am getting phantom pains where my teeth were. Really weird, I never had a tooth ache in my life that I know of and now I get them and I dont have any teeth. I am sure that since your oral surgeon said that everything looked good that you are just healing. I know that it can take up to a year for an extraction to heal completely. Your teeth are embedded into the bone of your jaw, that bone has now been tramatized with the extraction. Give it time it will stop.
