I am interested in starting a strength training/weights program out of my house. I am doing this at home because I do not live near a gym (45 miles away). Does anyone of any suggestions on a book or video that would help a beginner get started?

Is is YOUR home, or your parent's home. You could design a home gym if you have the space and get all the essential equipment for probably less than a thousand dollars. That would include a power rack, 300lb olympic weight set with barbell, adjustable bench, and a few other bells and whistles.

If it's your parent's house, even a bodyweight workout would be beneficial for a while. You could do pushups, crunches, chinups, bodyweigh squats. Work up to 100 pushups, 100 crunches, 20 chinups, 300+ bodyweight squats. That will give you some muscle and be a pretty good all around prep to go even more into weight training.
