View Full Version : Support Needed: New Dentures

I've recently found this board and have been reading for several weeks. It has been of great support to me. I have been without teeth for about 10 months. I finally got enough money together to get my dentures. Today, was my first appointment.

First of all, I'm a major gagger. It took several tries just to get the initial impressions. But, we were finally successful. I honestly think that I would have prefered having a bone reset without an anastetic. I have never been so happy to leave a Dr's office in my life. To me, it was like visiting a chamber of horrors.

I understand that my next visit (in about 10 days) will be for wax impressions. I've tried reading on the web about this next task and I'm still not quite clear. It sounds like another gagging experience. I would appreciate it if someone could "walk me through" what I can expect. Within my own mind, if I can fully understand what's going to happen, I think that I can mentally prepair myself.

W5blt, welcome to our little corner of the world.

I also am a gagger, although it has been getting better since all this began for me. I would cause myself to gag every day when I brushed and flossed my teeth so I know how you feel.

The wax impressions are mainly for the teeth area of your dentures. They will measure the distance between your nose and chin, and the area between your gums at a relaxed state. If they did impressions before extracting your teeth they will also use those to help with the measurements.
The wax impressions are thicker and larger then the immediates if you had those and alot bigger then your permanents will be. So dont stress over that.
I did gag quite a bit when doing mine. My dentist told me not to eat or drink anything at least two before going and it will help keep you from vomiting.

Good Luck
Casey
