View Full Version : Severe Dental Pain

I'm hoping someone can help. I have been experiencing severe pain in the upper left molar area for over 3 weeks. I immediately went to my dentist who took x-rays and found I had some bone loss in that area, but nothing to explain the pain I was experiencing. After three subsequent trips to the dentist, he finally decided it was the upper left molar (below the bone loss area) and decided to pull the tooth, saying the pain would cease.

It has been a week now since he pulled the tooth, yet I am still experiencing severe pain, mostly at night. He had prescribed penicillin and I have been keeping my mouth clean, etc. and only eat on the other side, yet daily the pain comes creeping up on me.

Has anyone else ever experienced something like this? If so, is this normal? It seems to be slow in healing and wonder if this pain is due to the bone loss area. My dentist doesn't seem to understand why this is happening. Please help.

Immensely grateful to anyone's suggestions.

Thanks!

Okay is the pain the same as before you had the tooth removed or is it different. Does the pain radiate to other teeth or into your jawbone???

I would call the dentist back and not take NO for an answer.

I appreciate your response. The pain I have is exactly the same as before I had the left upper molar removed (right below the bone loss area) but doesn't radiate into other teeth. Pain starts at the socket and radiates up through the left side of my head. Socket hasn't closed completely yet, but wonder if pain is due to bone loss.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them before.

Thanks

Lena
