I have straightened my hair a lot recently and curled it. I have horrible breakage split ends. I have used that Aussie 3 minute miricle and it didn't really help. I also use thermasilk and it doesn't help that much. My hair is really fine too. Please let me know what might help me out. I am going to go get it cut today but I needed advice on how to keep it healthy with all the heat products I use. Thanks again in advance.

You might try a straightener that has steam. I use Conair Straight Styles.

Thanks for the advice. I needed to know about other conditioners and such because I curl my hair a lot too.

Matrix makes something called Thermal Active Setting Spray. It's sold in salons. You spray it on before curling, etc. and it helps protect it from the heat of the irons.

try the new vo5 miracle mist. it's made to help protect your hair against the damage done by heat styling.

My hair got really damaged from a crappy iron I used to use, so I understand your pain. I also have really fine hair, and it tangles and gets damaged really easy. To combat the damaged areas, I find that the Infusium-23 line works really well, and it's not that expensive. Before I heat style I use a serum called Biosilk, and I like that one... most big brand names have heat protectants out now, from serums to creams to sprays... check them out next time you're at a drugstore or salon. The Matrix ones are supposed to be good!

I empathise with you. I too have flat ironed or curled my hair DAILY for years. Not anymore, I found a good website about how to grow African American hair longer. It has helped me tremendously to understand why my hair wasn't prospering.

I have breakage, split ends, frizz, uneven hair, you name it, I have it. I put down that flat-iron 3 days ago and have bought myself some pretty good products. ProfectIv for anti-breakage, Doo Gro anti-thining, Olive Oil lotion for moisture, Porosity Conditioner for pre-conditioning, Orgainic Stimulator Root Shampoo(already had), Suave conditioner(already had) Cholesterol deep conditiong(already had)Loreal anti-frizz creme. Just to name a few. I have washed my hair 3 times this week, and used no heat! I roll my hair every night and wrap a satin scarf, and I have seen good results! I am much happier, I was going into a depression because my hair was a mess! I wouldn't recommend you to use heat despite all of the products they have to put on hair before heating! No way. I use rollers along with those products I have mentioned and my hair is soft. I don't know what type of hair I have, whether it's 4a/b or whatever they use to determine the texture. I know that it's not nappy and it's not the finest. It's a little in between. By they way does anyone know how to tell the hair texture?

I also went and bought an organic multi-vitamin/minerals last night. I bought it for two reasons to grow longer healthier hair and because of my poor diet(I also have digestive issues "IBS"). I think healthier longer hair starts from within. You are what you eat!

Good luck and happy growing longer healthier hair!

Try keeping your iron on the lowest heat possible.. or buy a low heat iron..steam irons can also damage hair, but in all honesty, putting product on it (heat resistant or not) it will still burn onto your hair.. you should apply any product on wet hair, then wait for your hair to dry at least 70% before attempting to apply heat.. then use a very very low heat.

actually, if you apply product to wet hair, the product will either just slip off the hair shaft or will evaporate with the water when you blowdry, making it useless. to maximize protection, you should apply product to dry hair before heat styling.

also, your hair should be COMPLETELY dry before using any type of iron. not only will you do less damage, your hair will be more likely to keep its ironed shape (curls, straightened) when dry.
