View Full Version : Thinking about getting my hair chemically straightened...

Is there anything big should know?

I've heard that it makes your hair look different than compared to when you straighten it with a flat iron? What exactly would the differences be? How different will your hair look chemically straightened VS flat ironed?

And the process in permanent until new hair grows in, right?

And also, how long does the entire process take?

Thanks for all your help, I'm a little bit nervous about getting this done...

I have a friend who went thru the process. She had waist-length wavy hair. She loved it when it was first done about a year ago. Several months ago, the hair became frizzy and fly-away, and there was nothing she could do except cut it all off to a couple of inches. She had a goal of growing her hair to her knees, so she is starting all over again. She tells people to never have it done after her bad experience.

I think the biggest question you need to ask yourself is, do you REALLY need it? A co-worker of mine had it done, but her hair was already pretty straight. She would always complain that she hated her hair, and that it was "frizzy" and what not, but honestly it looked pretty damn smooth and straight to me. When she had it done, it went VERY straight and flat, no body at all... I thought it looked sort of weird, and I personally didn't like it on her, but I guess she was happy since she didn't have to spend as much time styling. Anyways, my point is that I think this procedure would be helpful for someone with unmanageable hair, but if your hair can be fixed using a flat iron and a little product, I'm not sure you wanna go that permanent. Also, it's safest on healthy, 'virgin' hair... or else damage could occur! Good luck with whatever you choose :)
