I just moved to NJ and joined a gym. My question is about training. I am the type of person who needs that extra push from a trainer to help me lose weight. My question is are they worth the money to buy 10 sessions? Or could I get the same benefit from buying a session or two and just following what they showed me?

It all depends on the trainer and what kind of workouts you want to do. I think you should try just one or two sessions first just to be sure you like the trainer and their methods.
Of course a good personal trainer is worth their weight in gold. IF you find a good one that motivates and gives you the results you want and if you have the money, keep them indefinitely!
But if your pockets are not unlimited then perhaps a compromise would be to book a couple of sessions get the trainer so they show you how to perform the exercises correctly and then get them to set a program for you and then go back in 10 weeks for a follow up session and a review of your performance. Aim for having a couple of sessions every 10 weeks or what cost will allow. Of course the more the better. But try and aim for having a trainer for at least a year. And if need be spread out those ten sessions over one year. That will keep you motivated more.

Thanks! Pretty sound advice! I had a trainer back at the gym I went to in PA, and man I miss him. I only worked with him a couple times but he helped me a lot and pushed me beyond my limits. Right now at my current gym, I can do group training sessions and plan on starting them next week. I can only get to their Tuesday night session due to my work schedule. I do plan on talking to them about more intense training. I have more toning to do that actual weight loss, I know I will lose as I tone, but my toning is so important to me.
Thanks agian! I know I will be taking your advice! :)
