I'm sure this is semi-normal just looking for reassurance and anyone with similar experiance. I am 7 wks pp and not breastfeeding dd. I started af around 5.5 wks pp. It was sooooooo heavy I couldn't believe it! I was going through a super plus tampon AND soaking a pad every 20 mins! This lasted a few days then would go real light, then heavy again. Lots of clots too (sorry to be so graphic). Anyways the whole thing went away completely after about a week. Well much to my dismay it seems that I have started again! With Ds I breastfed for 3 months and when I stopped, af returned shortly after and was pretty normal right away. I certainly didn't have them a week apart!

I am 7 wks pp and I just ended AF, it lasted about 1 wk too. And it was as aweful as you described. I was soaking through the hospital pads, which are super huge, in 1 to 2 hours. I didn't have that many blood clots but I passed very many nasty ones after I had DS. But I was bleeding so bad DH was ready to take me to the hopsital a few times. I have not got it again as of yet anyway. I hope I don't, but as of now I can't help with that. And I am not breastfeeding either.

I am 8 weeks PP today and I woke up to a visit from AF. So far her visit hasn't been too bad. Just like my normal first day of the visit. With my DS I was 12 weeks PP and OMG I thought I was going to die. The cramps were HORRIBLE and I was bleeding so bad that in the shower I just had blood running down. Sorry to be graphic. I didn't breastfeed either time. I've been having cramps today but again that is normal for me. If you are going through pads every 20 minutes I would call the Dr and tell them how much you are bleeding. I bled a lot after DS but not that much.

yeah, it was the first one where it was really heavy, but this one started off brown and has been very light-only needing a lite tampon. I spoke to sister in law and she said with her second ds she bled off and on for almost 8 mths straight! I hope this is not what I have to look forward to. Glad to hear from you two as we are so close in delivery dates it always seems we are going through the same things at the same time....needles coming up soon! :( thanks ladies!

Oh I know. My DD goes the 15th. She was suppose to go next Monday but her doctor won't be in town now. That makes me happy and mad. Happy because she won't have to get the shots until a week later, mad because I can't just get it done and over with. I watched her get her Hep B shot at the hospital omg I just started bawling right along with her. I think it hurt me more then her lol. Poor thing was sleeping and wakes up to the nurse sticking her. :( Back to the thread....now my flow is getting a little heavier. I hope it's not going to be bad tomorrow. My sister is coming back tomorrow and I don't feel like feeling like I'm leaking everywhere while at dinner! BLAH!

I agree, I'm such a chicken about the needles...with ds, I made dh hold him until they were over and then I would take him and cuddle and kiss him with tears in my eyes. I think I will have to ask dh to take an hour off work to do the same with dd! With my first af I missed 3 great days at the beach for the same reason...scared of going through everything. I did ruin 3 pairs of pants and underwear, so just in case, wear the ugly ones that every women has for that time of the month. (granny panties..lol)

My first PP AF was around 5 weeks and I bled so heavy as well. Soaking a pad and tampon ever 30 minutes.. it was horrible. I ruined so many clothes too. I didn't even bleed that much after I had the baby!

Well this is my first AF since DD was born eight weeks ago. Yesterday it wasn't that bad but today (2nd day) it's been so heavy. Last night it was a good thing I put down a towel. I hate pads so I used a tampon today and I had to change it like every two to three hours. Actually I should have changed it more often. How long did you bleed for your first AF? Hopefully, this will be a normal period.

Well like I said, mine was REALLY heavy and it lasted about a week and then went away for about a week and then I started again and I am on day 4 of this one-though not near as heavy...thank god!

Wow,

It sounds like you are all having a hard time with AF. Do you know if it comes back differently if you are breastfeeding?

I breastfed ds for 3 months and af did not return until after he was weaned. I also think it was much lighter than this time. I am getting soooo frustrated. I hate wearing pads, but this af is so unpredictable. It will be really heavy, then really light to the point where there is nothing for hours and I can't wear a tampon. So I'll put on a stupid pad for a few hours to be sure I'm finished and everytime I take the pad off I start bleeding again. It's like someone is playing a sick joke on me. Once I was going to go grocery shopping and figured since I hadn't had any flow the previous night and all morning that I was finally finished af and could get rid of uncomfortable pad. I decided to do the dishes first and thank god I did because I started again and would have been in the grocery store and it was heavy enough that I would have leaked through my pants. So take my advice ladies to save yourself some potentially humiliating experiences-wear pantyliners for the first few months pp until your af becomes more regular.
