Age: 21 years old
Height: 5 feet 3 inches tall

STARTING NUMBERS
Weight: 238Lbs
Body Fat: 50.9%
BMI: 42.2

CURRENT NUMBERS
Weight: 225Lbs
Body Fat: 49%
BMI: 39.9

I've been trying to lose weight since the beginning of June. I've been trying but it seems like I've hit a plateau. My goal is to be 125Lbs by next March (for my birthday: been fat for 4 years and I'm tired of it). I've been researching weightloss for 2+ months now. They all say to cut daily calories by 500 and burn 500 calories via exercise. The problem is that I don't normally eat a lot. I usually eat about 1200 calories daily and I can't see how I can function on 700 calories daily. I don't have a problem with exercising because I know it's necessary. I just don't know why I haven't been able to significantly lose weight. I keep a daily log of food intake and exercise routines. I used Trimspa and Carb Blockers in June. I just bought the Maggie Drozd diet stuff, an Elliptical Crosstrainer, an Ab Lounge, and a fitness ball. I also have Pilates tapes and free-weights. I detailed my routine below. Please help!!! What am I doing wrong? What can I do to change the situation?

JUNE
I cut out most of my carbs, I ate a lot of fiber, I increased my intake of proteins (mostly chicken), I drank 32Oz of water with 1 teaspoon of lemon juice daily, ate a lot of fruits (kiwis, grapes, bananas) and vegetables (lettuce, cabbage, carrots), and drank a cup of lite cranberry juice or prune juice (alternating) every night before bed. I worked out almost everyday doing 1 day at the gym (cardio and weights) and 1 day swimming. During the course of this diet (1 month), I lost 10Lbs.

JULY
I added more proteins, dropped the fiber and the juices, I eat fruits (only grapes), and I introduced carbs (but in small portions), I still drank the 32Oz of water. My exercise routine was cardio and weights daily; I cut out the swimming because my workout partner's skin was itching (I can't swim alone at night and I'm too ashamed to workout during the day because there are many people at the pool). In doing this, I lost 3Lbs in July.

never be ashamed of going to the gym..everyone is there for all the same reasons.

and with your protein, eat more tuna. for my diet, i cut out red meat completely, it was just too fatty for me.

no sodas, drink water constantly..it's the best thing for you.

i think maybe you should see a nutritionist/and your doc about this

Sure sounds like you should keep up your June routine, 10lbs in one month is awesome. Best wishes.

Hi there, I think you are doing great: eating right and working out. You should be proud of yourself. Most people in your shoes won't even workout as much as you do. Also, you shouldn't be ashamed to go to the gym, you know why, because most of those "skinny" people at the gym used to be plumb too at some time. I bet you they all felt the same. Besides, we all go the gym to get fit and stink it up. Just kidding. Also, I've noticed you bought a couple of fancy exercise stuff....well, use them at home especially if you're still uncomfortable with the gym.

Anyway, I know how you feel, I am going through the same thing. It's ok to plateau, everyone does. I know it's frustrating, but don't worry, be patient and believe in yourself. Try not to weigh yourself everyday, once or twice a week is ok. You might end up burning lots of body fat and gaining muscle mass. Also, try tape measuring parts of your body (arms, thighs, legs, waist, chest, etc), you will definitely notice a change there, even if you're weight's been steady. You probably never realized that your waist and thighs are a little slimmer these days. :)

I usually have fish (salmon, tuna, tilapia) and sometimes chicken for protein; and try to make all types of fruits and veggies your best friends.

Wow, I have had the same problem, I'm 19 and am trying to lose 60 pounds by whenever. I also started in June and have lost 18 pounds thus far. Just keep going and don't lose motivation. I know its frustrating at times but you can over come it and keep working at it. The only thing I think you should do is double your water intake, water does wonders for a person; I believe its the natural weight loss supplement. Try to drink 8-10 glasses of water a day. And, girl, never be ashamed of working out infront of people. I was the same way but now I take my big booty to the gym, the pool, anywhere, I just don't care anymore. Keep up the work and if you lose motivation, just remember what you'll look and feel like in a few months.
