 I had My hysterectomy 13 days ago (complete) nothing was left.I am 31 years old with three children 12yr. girl, 6 yr. girl, and 6yr. boy :bouncing: and a loving husband (thank GOD). I was wanting to know how long does it take for the swelling to go down? My stomach at the bottem where the cut is is doing great but I have a pouch that sticks out above it!! Never had this before had loose skin from losing weight not bad though. Will this poch ever go away? Other than this I feel I'm doing great (a Few FLASHES of course) hahaha I'm just concerned, what if anything should i do to help this? Thanks Alot!!!

Hi heather

Congrats on doing so well after 13 days. I had my TAH in April and unfortunately still have the "swelly belly". Many ladies do complain about this and it is different for everyone. Please dont be tempted to try exercise as you will make it worse. The swelling for me is not too bad in the morning but by later afternoon after a day at work, well i look like im pregnant  . It is not as bad as it was and I think my insides are still trying to find the right place to settle, even after all this time. Anyhow, I am going to give it till November and then i will hit the gym. I have tried swimming but it hurts so I guess that is a no no :nono: for me.
Walking is good and helped me a lot in the first month. It helped move things through the colon and relieve trapped gas. I found I couldnt even settle down to watch an old movie. Never did get those DVDs watched.

Anyhow, good luck with your recovery. Dont rush things and take care

Hey there, I had my surgery in May and I still get the swollen belly. I am 26 years and they also removed everything and my cut was from belly button all the way down (due to colon surgery at the same time). I use to weight 110 lbs, and today I weighed myself and I was 120 lbs. I always heard that you gain anywhere from 10-20 lbs, or most people do??? I think it sometimes depends on what you eat, as in the tummy being swollen. It is worst at times than others.....I was kinda depressed at first, BUT I am so thankful that I will never (knock on wood) be in the pain that I was before my hysterctomy. I wish you all the best of luck!!!! It does get better~~~

Thanks for the reply. ( I have went from 122 to 116 at last weeks last dr appointment I had with my normal family DR.. I'm worried, other than that that I feel ok. This day marks the forth week mark. (the little pouch is still there though) wonder why I lost weight? I'm the type that stays normally at least in the 120's 125 around there I'm afraid I"ll  just keep dropping!!! I don't understand it??? I'm eating everthing i can to help put the weight back on. :D
