I have many problems and have been ill for a year undiagnosed. Periodically, i get heavy heartbeats that last hours. In the past i used to use breathing to slow the racing heart down. Back then i would inhale, then exhale slowly, and the heart would slow down always when i exhaled. Now a slow exhale does not slow the heart down at all, it has no effect. Does anyone know anything about this?

Do you know what triggers your heavy racing heartbeat? Salt/dehydration/sugar/caffeine/heat/stress? Any clue?

You need to get to a doctor and get checked out. You are having problems and need attention. You will never be diagnosed if you do not go to a doctor and get checked. Please go the doctor as soon as possible. Probelms tend to become major when ignored too long. :nono:

It sounds like aslo has been to the doctor but they are unsure what's wrong with him/her. Unfortunately that is all too common today. The healthcare system in America is often no better than that of a 3rd world country.

Yes I have been to many doctors for my assortment of problems that have been going on for a year. I guess noone knows about the question i asked, and that all of you when checking your pulse can slow it down with an exhale?
As for Timber, no i dont know what is causing the pounding. Its not really palpitations as the rate is still around 70, but it is pounding and uncomfortable. I do have panic disorder and depression, and i am taking medications, i feel from enduring all this for a year without diagnosis.

Aslo, I don't know your age or gender, but I suffer from a similar sensation - a heartbeat that is of a normal rate, but pounding/heavy - but it is ALWAYS in the two weeks before my period. Any idea if there could be a hormonal correlation for you too?
