I swear after I put eyedrops in my eyes, I can TASTE them dripping down into the back of my throat!!! The same thing happened to me when I was younger and needed ointment in my eyes for styes, I would go to school and get this awful sour, metallic taste in the back of my throat. No one ever believed me! But I say everything is connected and I'm tasting my eyedrops! Oh, a similar thing happens when I am crying and wearing mascara. I'll get the urge to cough and when I do I bring up this clear mucous with bits of black in it! I'm sorry, it's gross I know, but doesn't it prove my point?? Does this happen to everyone? How can I make it stop?

You can't make it stop, tasting the eye drops that is. Yes it happens to me and my daughter.

It just happens, it is connected.

Try wearing a little less mascara, or try not to touch your eye when you put it on.

Try this to see if it helps. Put in the drop, shut your eye, and press your finger against the tear duct. This keeps the meds where they are needed without getting into your system.

That happens to me often when I put my allergy drops in my eyes. I agree with the previous poster . . . after putting the drops in, apply gentle pressure to your tear ducts to help keep the drops in your eyes and not drain through your tear ducts as much. My opthamologist recommended applying pressure for 1 minute.
