Hi First let me say I am only 50, so find some of my aging symptoms to be premature. I have several health probs but am curious about my face. The redness apears to be spider veins or broken veins. Worse on some days than others and I can;t seem to associate them with any part activity. Anyone tell me what causes them?

It isn't necessarily an "aging" thing. It could be rosacea (sp?). Check with a dermatologist.

Most likely due to Rosacea or from drinking alcohol. Both will cause the tiny capillaries to become inflamed.

I don;t drink much. Maybe 3 drinks this year. I have looked at rosacea and it does not seem to be the same kind of thing. ?????????????????????

It could be "telangiectasia" which is a result of Rosacea or could be hereditary.
Red marks will look like broken or inflammed veins.

Runnercb, I'm 44 and I have the same problem. I have one on my nose that seems to have gotten bigger lately, and another one on the side of my eye. They are spider veins. I don't drink at all, so I'm not sure how this happened. I am going to the dermotologist today. I'll ask about causes and if there is anything that can be done. I'll try to post back with what I find out.
It seems like every day I find something new and strange on my body. Getting older sucks!

Noone knows the exact cause of spider veins, but there are some factors which may cause a person to develop them. Heredity, or being born with weak vein valves, is the greatest factor. Hormones also play a role. Other factors that weaken veins are aging, obesity, leg injury, and prolonged standing, such as for long hours on the job. Spider veins on the cheeks or nose of a fair-skinned person may occur from sun exposure.
