Hi All,
Today it has been exactly eight weeks since my surgery. I thought I would be feeling better by now. But to tell you the truth, I felt better a couple of weeks ago. Did anyone else feel this way? I feel more stiffness in the morning. But I guess that is normal. Plus I still have to take the pain meds. I have heard that some people are off them after two months.
Ok, hope everyone is well,
Have a good day.
Thanks,
Cathy46

Cathy46, Sorry to hear you are still having pain and discomfort. Does your Dr have any suggestions as to why and do your follow-up x-rays look ok? It's normal to have some discomfort as the body adjusts to the THR. You are using muscles differently which can take time to get used to. Are you driving yet and are you going to physical therapy? It's important to know if the discomfort is coming from the new hip or if it is the rest of the body that hurts. Keep posting and update us on your condition. Also feel free to ask us any questions you can think of. Talk to you later...balleteach

Hi balleteach,
The doctor said my xrays look really good. I am driving now and trying to do as much as I can. I am starting physical theraphy next week. They were coming to the house, but not anymore. I do the execerises she told me to do, but maybe in the outpatient theraphy it will be better for me. It just seems that I am going backwards instead of forwards. But like you said, its probably all the muscles. I start theraphy a week from today. In the meantime, I do my treadmill. Its sitting that really bothers me. I have to keep busy doing things.
Ok, got to go and make the coffee.
Thanks, talk to you later,
Cathy46

Hi Cathy ~ I was wondering where you were? How's work? Cathy, is it possible you're trying to do too much? I know you hate to sit around, but maybe you're overworking those muscles that are trying to heal. Remember...you continue to heal for many months after the THR and you're only 8 weeks out. I swear I can feel bone growing in my hip!!!
Good to see you again on the board!!!! Talk to you later....

Hi Hiphop,
Funny you should say your other hip hurts. So does mine. My therapist said it is because it is working overtime. My surgery has been now 12 weeks and I am still walking with a cane and still on pain meds. Infact, I went to my surgeron last week and he wants an MRI of my back and pelvis. My story is kind of a little different. I have had this pain for over a year and everyone was thinking it was my back. The the surgeron took an xray and said I needed a hip replacement. I was in so much pain, that I said do it. Now they are thinking it was my back. So I am going tomorrow for the MRI's. So have to hang in there and see what they find out.
Have you tried sleeping on your side with a pillow between your legs? That seems to work for me.
Well, hope you keep improving everyday. Guess it takes time.
Have a nice day!!

Hi Cathy,
Thankk you for replying to me, i am sorry to hear about your back as well, i did have problems with my back but certainly not my left hip but like you say more strain on it i suppose would set it off, please let me know what they say about your back why did they not look into that first of all, mine was the opposite they kept saying the pain in my hip was due to my back until i changed my doctors and insisted that i have another xray but on my hip and he just took one look and couldnt believe the severity of the arthritis in someone as young as myself, i am on early stages and to be honest feeling so low i miss all the things i normally do having three children etc just like most people i just need to get that fight back in me again, i am just too impatient, as for sleeping i am not allowed to sleep on my side till another three weeks , roll on three weeks!!
