Do hair pills and vitamins work. Personally for me ive been experimenting with flaxseed oil.. not the pills but the liquid--for me and it could be my imagination but i have seen some improvement but not really. I was wondering what you all think about some of the pills out there that will help grow your hair out.. thick and long.. I process my hair probably 6-8 weeks.. I have no color in my hair which is a good thing. But im really interested in knowing do any of the pills work and if so could you all make a suggestion on a product that you know or heard that reallly works

the best suggestion i have is to forget the hair pills... and find a good, organic multivitamin. make sure to get protein, calcium, and plenty of vitamin C. Also, I hear royal jelly (you can buy them as supplements) is beneficial for a NUMEROUS amount of things... one of which are hair, skin and nails. Keep taking flax oil... you might want to buy fish oil supplements, or eat lots of organic fish... especially salmon. Also, millet, which is a grain and can be prepared like rice, is really delicious... and EXCELLENT for the hair (and skin)!!! hope some of that helps... I have p[lenty more tips for healthy hair.. if you're interested;)

I've heard many women attest to getting great results from hair vitamins. I have never taken any vitamins formulated for hair growth, however. I take a daily multi-vitamin.
A balanced, healthy diet will directly affect your hair and fingernails. Also, your genetics have already pre-determined if your hair will grow long and remain healthy, whether it's straight or curly, fine or coarse, thick or thin.
Hair care can be a deciding factor in hair health, also. Protecting your hair by braiding or wearing it in up-dos will keep it from friction with clothing, being tangled by the wind or being caught in seat belts or door knobs.
I suggest combing in short, gentle strokes rather pulling a brush through it. Also, shampoos without "cones" are kinder to hair. Pantene, for example, is full of "cones". These shampoos can give the hair temporary luster, but will eventually cause irreversible damage to the hair.
Oiling with Monoi or Jojoba oils can completely prevent split ends when applied regularly and washed out with clarifying shampoo. I have trimmed my hair only once a year for the past 4 years, and I have not found one single split end in over 4 years.
Remember that hair can grow up to 1/2 inch per month, or 6 inches per year. By trimming minimally only when needed, you can achieve noticeable length in just over a year. Being patient and trimming only when hair becomes uneven or when split ends are visible will give you more satisfactory results when trying to achieve as much growth as possible. I also caution against against blow drying. If air drying is possible, that is the best method for drying.

Thanks you guys are very helpful.
At the moment I am taking 2 hair vitamins from avon and one women's vitamin from GNC .. which might be one too many vitamins.. I drink flaxseed oil and cod liver oil at least 3x's a week.. and I oil my hair at times with olive oil ..which is good if your hair is breaking or a moisterizer..if it feels extra dry. I try to keep my hair in a curly style but lately ive been using the ceramic flat irons ..which supposedly do not damage your hair..but i think anything with heat doesnt help your hair. I dont braid my hair.. but i do get it chemically proceeded. Oh and yes i would love to hear Siddartha.. im obsessed with hair at times.

Hello, chubbychunks! Please make sure you are not getting an overdose of iron or Vitamin A with the combination of vitamins. Iron and Vitamin A excess in the body can be toxic.
It sounds like you are taking good care of your hair! I think if you can remain focused on your goal with patience, you can be proud of your long, healthy hair in no time at all!

i highly suggest you only take one of the two vitamins... HIGHLY;)
when you wash your hair, be sure to use only a slight amount of shampoo around the scalp.. don't apply to the rest of the hair. then, only apply your conditioner from around your ears and down... primarily focusing on the ends. Rinse out with cold water (although there is much controversy over whether washing with cold hair helps... from my experience... IT DOES! It relieves my hair of frizzes and even adds shine... plus.. the hot water can't be healthy for hair!)
if you want to know of MIRACLE products.... check out Aubrey Organic products {removed} THEY ARE ALL AMAZINGLY POSITIVE (and pretty much everyone gave their products 5 stars). i myself just started using their face wash and lotions and the results were astounding... i'm looking forward to using their hair care line soon... plus, the products can usually be found at just about any health food store... among other stores.
anyway... always remember to treat your hair gently... most of the hair on your head has been there for several years alreadY... imagine everything it has to go thorugh!

I started taking a multi-vitamin/mineral just because of my poor diet. I hear all about the vitamins for the hair, but I don't like taking a lot of different pills. Therefore, I went and bought an orgainic multi-vitamin/mineral that has biotin, vitamin a, c, b12,,,etc. I felt that it would benefit me both ways.
I found a good website about African Americans longer hair. For years I have been flat ironing or curling my hair EVERY day. Permed every 4-5 weeks. I didn't know how much I was damaging my hair. I know now because of the website. I always wondered why my hair wouldn't grow passed my shoulders, it would get right on my shoulders and that's it. My hair now has a lot of breakage, split ends, very uneven, and very frizzy due to the excessive heat and chemicals. It's a mess.
It has been 3 days since I last used a flat-iron, almost 4 weeks since I used a relaxer and I have washed my hair 3 times this week! I have been trying a lot of new products such as, ProfectIv, Doo Gro, Olive Oil moturizing lotion, Loreal anti-frizz cream. I also roll my hair every night and sleep with a silk scarf. I have seen pretty good results so far, and I am much happier, thanks to the AA website. They taught me how to give my hair TLC.
My hair is light to dark brown, some times sandy red (it's a weird color for an African American) I always hated the color, and people always ask me, "What color is your hair?" They thought I would dye it, because one day it's light brown, and next day it's dark brown or sandy red. It is also difficult to match for weaves and extensions. Usually they give me a number 4, but that's too dark. Anyway, it doesn't hardly shine because of the color. I hate the color!
Anyway, Sorry I got off topic. I will post the results of my organic multi-vitamin/minerals.

I use only Aussie shampoo and conditioner. I read that Nature's Gate had good hair products, as well as Aubrey Organics. Just yesterday, I ordered shampoo and conditioner and shave gel from Nature's Gate. Do you know of anyone who uses Nature's Gate? I'd also like to try the Aubrey Organics.

guaranteed vitamins to help are a good b-complex vitamin, omega3 fish oils, vitamin e and vit c and also a mineral complex vitamin i guarantee u notice a difference but dont waste your money on putting oils and shampoos that r suppose to help your body works from the inside out believe me they have worked wonders for me and another bonus is they increase your sex drive.
