you just have to STOP. eating at night right before you got to bed is the worst thing you can do because the food is turning into stored fat since your body isn't active because of sleep.

I try not to eat but if I can't help it I always have fruit or diced raw veggies with fat free/light dip/dressing. I don't eat a whole bag of carrots or anything, just a handful or so.

But, that rarely happens nowadays. Instead, I stave off the hunger by making myself feel full by constantly drinking whether it's water, diet caffeine free soda, or sodium free seltzer. None of these things have calories and therefore your body can't store them as fat (although some people say things about aspartame which is usually used to diet sodas).

In addition I've found hot liquids to soothe my stomach if it's making noise or feeling funny 'cause it's wanting food. Decaf tea or coffee or just hot water. I also sometimes use fat free cocoa mix, usually those individual packets that are supposed to be used for 8oz of water, instead I mix it with 16-20oz of water. Same calories of the packet, just a lot more cocoa...albeit a bit less potent.

Just some ideas =)

Thank you all so very much-I will try my best to do this-maybe also I will have to go to bed at reasonable hours as well-lol I love to read before sleeping and I can go on and on until wee hours of the morning.
God Bless.

reading is good...I even heard once that reading for an hour burns 100 calories. but make sure to get sleep because that is important also!

I get so caught up in my books-I can even read and walk to work at the same time-it's terrible but also fun. I think I associate reading with eating for I did that when I was younger and now i need to break that habit-it's so hard though.
God Bless.

First off make sure you've had a reasonable amount to eat for the day. Then pick a time like 7 or 8 pm and tell yourself you won't have anything else.

For me personally this worked(and still works) quite well. It's a real change, because I was always having sandwiches, chips, popcorn, etc... But after a week or so, I started to really be comfortable with it. In fact, it became quite liberating. But still to this day, if decide to have something other than water or tea, I want to eat everything in the house. Is I was obviously hungry, I would try and have an apple or an orange.

Now of course, this works best if you're not subjected to latenight food everytime you turn around. ie. roomates, spouse, or friends all eating lots of tasty stuff around you. And somedays it's just not going to work because you have to eat late for whatever reason.

When I'm finished my supper, I think to myself, is there anything else I want? If so, I try and have it. ie small desert. Then after I have my extra treat, I don't have anything else. I think I'm also getting better sleep since I quit eating late at night.

Now of course, everyone is different and I don't get as strong/specific cravings as my wife. So it makes it a bit harder on her.

Thank you. I will give this a try and keep you updated-it wont' be easy but it's worth a change I guess.
God Bless.

cutenbrat,

I sympathise with you whole heartedly! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
The minute I get all my kids in bed the first thing I do is head for the pantry or fridge (or both!).
I'm almost sure it is a psycological thing. Not getting to eat a single meal in peace all day and finally... I can have whatever I want without little kids hovering about.

I know this is about the worst thing a person trying to lose wieght could do, but I tend to be way weaker at night. Help!!!!

I still am eating late at night. Larua at least now I have company with you-lol. It doesn't make it any easier for I also fight with an eating disorder and I know I should be eating during the day more but it's like i'm not hungry than-this is driving me nuts; in Larua's words "help".
God Bless
