i had a collarbone broken almost 3 weeks ago and the doctor gave me a sling and some pain killer. after two week i have another xray(adviced by doctor) and found out that my collarbone are not joint yet instead they are shifted.

the doctor said that i can go for surgery and put some metal screw to joint them together but he said they dont recommend it because might have complication and might get infection.

currently i only felt a little pain on certain movement of my hands.
there is no sharp edges of the broken bone so the doctor said just leave it there and there's nothing he can do.

so what is your advice on this?
just leave the broken bone broken for the rest of mylife?
what is the function of the collarbone?
if i just leave it broken like that will i regain the normal function of my hand?

thank you in advance.

Two things could happen... Either the bone will fuse in the position it is in (slightly misaligned, perhaps shorter or rotated), or it won't fuse at all. If it doesn't fuse at all, I would think that that could cause problems for you because this bone holds up the arm. If it heals with the ends of the bone shifted, it may cause no problems for you at all. Since the doctor didn't seem very enthusiastic about surgery, it probably hasn't shifted enough to prevent it from healing or impair function. However, if you aren't sure what to do, a second opinion might help. Good luck.

I had the same thing happen to me some years ago. I was in a car accident and broke my collar bone. I was put in a sling as well, but my bone never healed. I finally quit going to that doctor and went to and hand and shoulder specialist. He performed surgery on my collar bone, and I have never had another pain caused from the broken bone.
My current general practitioner told me the bone probably didn't heal well because of my osteoporosis. We know now that I have the disease pretty severely.
Have you been tested for osteoporosis? You might ask your doctor to do a bone scan just to see if that could be why your bones are so slow to heal.
