i have fairly thick, straight, medium length hair, and i'm interested in getting a perm. i've heard there are several types, but can anyone explain them to me?? i don't want a spiral perm, but is it possible to get waves?? help so i don't make a mistake!!!

If you just want waves, consider a body wave.

This probably won't help you much but I have a suggestion.
I don't think you should perm your hair. I've known of people who have done different perms and in the end pretty much all of them ended up regretting it.
My mom used to always perm her hair when I was a kid. I'm sure back then perms were a little different and probably fried hair more and everything...but still they're probably not that much better now.
All the chemicals and everyhting are just not good for hair.
So if I were you I'd just do more research on different ways to style/curl hair that's a bit more permanent than just curlers, but won't damage your hair as much as a perm would.
I've also heard of those even making people's hair fall out. You don't wanna mess with that and totally ruin your hair.
Sorry I'm not much help..but that's just what I think.
