I have a friend who is 5'8 and around 266 pounds! She is also a "casual smoker"...and she is 19 years old. She is trying to lose weight but all she is doing is walking and im not sure if she has changed her diet much.

At 19, is she in any sort of a major health risk? I know obesity is damaging to ones health, but at 19 is it really an issue?!

If she's 266 and inactive normally WALKING is a great start cut her some slack and just try making healthy choices for you both to do together ..ie eat at a vegetarian resturant unsted of a fast food joint t..take a walk around a mall or go hiking or canoeing or swimming and ask her along ..and Do try not to judge her people get this waay for a reason nor just lazynes (quite often lazyness has nothing to do with it!! ). It's nice that your so concerned about your friend though!!

Obesity can be damaging to a person at any age, even 19. However there is the fact that the older you get, the harder it will be to resolve weight issues. Tell her to start now. If she gets the weight off/starts being more healthy now, the better off she will be in the long run.

It can be damaging to the point high blood pressure or diabetes. At 19 I weighed 210lbs but high blood pressure and diabetes run in my family. Now I am 33 and 287lbs I don't have high blood pressure or diabetes but I do have back/leg problems. I was always tired and started withdrawing from social occassions. Smoking no matter how much is never good but mixed with being overweight is aweful. If your concerned then be gentle with her because you don't want to hurt her feelings in anyway. Definetly make changes in portion sizes and what you eat. Tons of ice water trust me. If she's walking then its definetly a step in the right direction but see what else she likes to do. Remember she probably doesn't feel that great about her body anyways so be positive and supportive with her. Hope this helps some.
